Mark Steyn on absurd Chrysler commercial

Obviously Mr. Steyn considers this gentleman to be an example of Detroit’s educational system? Or does Indiana (IN.) get the blame?

Detroit was the center of car manufacturing in the world. The fact that it even needs rebuilding is a tragedy of such immense proportions that it boggles the mind.

It’s the Liberal way: Accuse the other side of exactly what you yourself are singularly guilty of. It puts the accused on their heels in defense and distracts and confuses onlookers as well as the accused innocent. Nothing new though… Straight out of the Father of Lies’ own little playbook from way back when.

You either work for chrysler or own a gerbil or both. Maybe you are just a koolaid drinking moonbat, well thats cool, but Mark Steyn is right on the money. Yeah Mark pays less taxes because he lives in N.H. ( i’m moving there ) the people and the state are great, they work hard and don’t believe in a free lunch. Don’t give stuff away for free. Maybe thats one of the reasons why they have low unemployment.

Are you even from Detroit? Somehow, I don’t think so.

Detroit is a city that’s been run into the ground. If you don’t know why, you’re definitely not from Detroit. Stupid, $9,000,000.00 advertisements during a superbowl aren’t going to revitalize that worthless city that’s probably no further than a fingernail’s length from receivership (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hhJ_49leBw). Your argument is absolutely the opposite of cogent and coherent. We’re talking about Mark Steyn’s accurate observation of Detroit’s plight, and you’re talking about Europe and how much money they got decades ago, after a world war. Guess what? That’s so irrelevant, it’s stupid. Why don’t you address the rampant illiteracy rate in that stupid city [Detroit]? Why didn’t you address the fact that about 50% of the residents are illiterate? Why don’t you address the fact that once Jerome Patrick Cavanagh came along (the first of the seemingly hereditary democratic mayors), Detroit’s decline into it’s present day began? Why don’t you address the fact that Detroit continues to pay big money to unions and on absolutely irrelevant projects, even as the city continues to literally crumble around the few casinos and Greektown? Or how about how Detroit got a bailout from Lindon Johnson, and was called a model city on what government intervention can do? Instead, you talk crap about your impression of a guy’s speech patterns. I club in Detroit, and used to live there, and I can tell you that stupid car ads that cost more than the average Detroit resident will make in their lives, featuring someone that’s never lived there, and probably drives a foreign car (besides the Chrysler, which is nothing more than a Italian Fiat POS, now), anyway, won’t save that city. I can tell you that a company that chose to pick up stakes and leave that city for Auburn Hills really don’t have much interest in Detroit. I can also tell you that even if everybody suddenly (and stupidly) started buying Fiats (i.e.: “Chryslers”), that’s not really going to profit Detroit, much, considering Chrysler (i.e.: FIAT) doesn’t really have too much going there, anyway, aside from a couple of assembly plants and warehouses.

Nobody sacrificed Detroit, other than Detroit, itself. Detroit is a city filled with idiots that vote for people like Young and Kilpatrick and Bing and Conyers (both of them), completely eschewing Conservative principals, values and politics, in favor of liberality hand-outs.

And look what what their hand-outs and so-called “empowerment zones” got them (assuming you even live anywhere close enough to see Detroit, or that you even venture there, if you are close enough).

Enough with the BS about Mark Steyn, and try to focus on the real problem and issue: DETROIT. Until Detroiters get their heads out of their asses and learn to stop voting democrat, learn to stop using Dick Tracey Rogues Gallery villains as their city councils, and figure out that throwing money at unions isn’t going to solve their problems, things will only get worse, and that ugly, worthless city will finally, and literally, go away, becoming the ghost town it’s well on it’s way to becoming.

To all of you mocking Detroit and Detroiters, 1st thing I will tell you is, when you bash Detroiters you are also bashing people from Ann Arbor, Royal Oak, Rochester, Dearborn, Shelby Twp, Macomb Twp, Sterling Heights, Novi, Northville and the Grosse Pointes, now google those cities in Michigan and see the stats of the people that live in these cities. The majority of us are highly educated, conservative, Republicans, who have good jobs, nice homes that are paid for or have timely paid mortgage payments. We are the people that on the weekends and some weeknights drive 20-30 minutes into the city to go to dinner at many of the fine resturants in the city, visit the beautiful NEWER baseball and football stadium, or go to a hockey game, afterall we are hockeytown. There are also many of us that have thriving jobs right in the city!
I will agree that there has been bad choices of mayors in the city, and our past governor, well she is in the past. We had a republican before her, and a new republican after her.
The videos and pictures to show the “real Detroit”, is not the real picture of Detroit, google campus marchus ice skating rink, or compuware, or the riverfront.
As for the only standing theater in Detroit, no the Fox is far from the only standing theater, google Detroit Opera House, Fisher Theater, Masonic Temple theater, also the Fox. We have beautiful venues, resturants, and businesses in Detroit.
Also, Im not a fan of the Unions, my father is an retired engineer from Ford, who was not a union worker. I agree they make to much money, but you cant blame them for the demise of the auto industry that in the motorcity is held high, BLAME THE AMERICANS WHO BUY FOREIGN CARS!
As for the Chrysler ad being paid for by tax dollars, Chrysler is paying back the loan, it was a loan, they have stated that it will be paid back next year totally. And for Eminem, not a huge fan of his music, but he is a big supporter of Detroit and the motorcity.
Now, go and rewatch the commerical, the full 2 minute ad, and let me assure you, that is the beauty of Detroit!
Afterall, are you gonna tell me that New York or Chicago or Los Angeles doesnt have any slummy sections!
