Mark Steyn on how Big Government solves fictitious problems

Steyn had a little fun today explaining the Government of Maine’s instructions on what to do if you break one of the new CFL lightbulbs in your house. Through all of this he’s making the larger point that none of this bureaucratic nonsense is necessary if you use a normal incandescent light bulb, which of course they are trying to ban.

It’s a great listen. Enjoy!

He didn’t even riff on the whole “keep ventilating for several hours” part. Oh, yeah, that works. In Maine. In the dead of winter. Just crank up the furnace so you can keep your windows open to vent out the toxic fumes.

J-Funny, until it happens to you with young people in the room. Years ago when I first tried one of these bulbs I read everything on the package and complained to friends about the warnings….Mercury….You’ve got to be kidding me….. “Oh, they said it’s great for the environment and better on your wallet in the long run.”

Well when that bulb started glowing and someone said look how cool that is – and when it fell to the floor – I remembered the warnings, BUT NOT ALL the details on how to clean it up….I GOT EVERYONE OUT OF THE ROOM -BUT ME…Maybe that’s why my comments are slightly off sometimes. After cleaning up I was livid…I called the hardware store where I bought it, thinking he’d know what to do with this package from hell.

Nope, he had no clue. He said he would just throw it in the trash.

So if you see a glowing pickle, blame me…

But GRIZ didn’t stop there….NOPE….I called the company and said it would be a cold day…somewhere before I bought another one. And their info. about the Mercury gas written on the outside packaging scared the crap out of me from the start..

Where’s California on this one? They ban everything. I don’t think you can cough in public without having your mouth covered and not be scolded.

And can someone tell me if the packages still have any of this warning on them anymore. Prob. not since I complained. You might have to hunt for the truth.

True enough. Just as he was saying, the EPA does everything to protect us from global warming and nothing to protect us from the idiocy of inventors. I think we should steer the glowing pickles in their direction!

I must add…. for the “CONCERNED RIGHTEOUS LEFT”, that we righties believe in common sense solutions to real environmental problems that assault God’s beautiful creation. But to add hazardous waste in any quantity to offset other perceived concerns in the environment is just plan stupid with an inflationary ignorance……

The panzy left solved a problem that didn’t exist sounds a lot like the climate crisis jack pot. The old business axiom was, “find a need and fill it”. The new business/govt model is “create a crisis – then sell your solution.”

I heard this live while I was driving. Laughed so hard I almost caused an accident on the D.C. Beltway! He is spot on with his assessment about the solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.

I am pretty outraged over this, it’s just sheer insanity….and a way for someone to make a boat load of money. Really mad about Upton.

A while back someone at Fox did a story on clean up w/a guy in NYC wearing gloves and going through the whole disposable routine on the street, might have even been Beck that did it, it was so funny. But yet so sad that this is what America has become.

Since their inception several years ago, I have bought and replaced well over a hundred of these 10,000 hour bulbs. I broke one and threw the rest to the trash. In Ontario it is not yet a criminal offense to do so, I hope.

A 60W Edison bulb, gives off 60W of heat. The ligt is just a bonus. Smart to consider if you live in a cold country.
