Medved: How are Republicans exactly like Democrats?

Michael Medved has a caller who is pushing that familiar refrain: “There is no difference between the parties.” This is something that you’ll hear Glenn Beck say alot, and there is some truth to it. But the more we know about the democrats, the more we see where the parties are very different. But to play along with Michael’s challenge as to what was similar between the 2008 candidates Obama and McCain, let me take a shot. They both supported Cap and Trade; they both had liberal views of immigration policy; they both wanted to get the government to help pay for health care for more americans. Those are three very important issues.

The Republicans have in fact created more dependency on the government by their policies. But unlike the Democrats, I don’t believe there is an agenda to socialize the country. Republicans don’t want to nationalize health care. Sure, they have made their mistakes and they need to learn from them, but there is now an apparent VAST difference between the two parties. Republicans aren’t Marxists, and that’s a point I’ve heard Rush mention several times. In fact, I believe I recall Rush saying this week that if the parties didn’t matter, then why do we want Scott Brown to win in MA?

The truth is that they are quite different, and I believe that the Republican party for the most part has learned alot about itself and what the American people desire in terms of power and size of government.

All that said, enjoy the clip where Medved destroys the caller over this very issue (via TownHall.com):
