Mittens: “I believe we’re in a recovery mode, finally”

That bizarre Romney quote comes at the 5:45 mark of this interview with Hannity, but I’m posting the whole thing because with the focus mainly on Obama it provides a window of sorts into how Romney might contrast himself with Obama in the general election, should he win the nomination.

It’s a mixed bag, at best.

The discussion on energy/gas prices was actually pretty hard for Romney to screw up, so he did all right there.

But then came this exchange:

ROMNEY: “I believe we’re in a recovery mode, finally.”

HANNITY: “You really think so?”

ROMNEY: “It’s hard to know. No one can predict precisely what’s going to happen in the economy. But I think it’s likely that things will get better. Look, no recession has gone on forever. They get better. This has just taken so long to recover from in part because of the policies of this President.”

So…Romney claims we’re in a too-slow recovery (just like Obama always does!), then when challenged on that immediately walks it back, then claims this recession (see, now it is a recession after all) is bound to get better in spite of Obama’s policies because…historically we always recover from recessions, or something.

This is pure mush from Mittens, and makes me wonder if he even grasps the truly perilous state of our country’s fiscal health.
