MSNBC Host: Jeremiah Wright was right about our response to 9/11

MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry says that she remembers sitting in Jeremiah Wright’s church the week after 9/11 and listening to him preach an anti-war sermon, one that she completely agreed with: (via Radio Equalizer):

I’d like to go back to Reverend Wright for a moment because, just like we’re somehow supposed to feel negative emotions when we watch Derrik Bell and President Obama embrace 20 years ago or something. We were also supposed to somehow be ashamed of the words of Reverend Wright.

Look I don’t agree with everything that Reverend Wright has said but I also don’t agree with none of it. In other words there are some things that Reverend Wright has said that I absolutely agree with.

And I’ll say this. I was in Trinity United Church of Christ on the Sunday after September 11th. … And I will never forget that Reverend Wright on that day preach a sermon that was an anti-war sermon. Before anyone was even fully talking about war, Reverend Wright understood that what the American state normally does is to respond to this kind of attack with war, and that war was going to be against poor countries and countries with people of color. And it was probably going to be a war that did very little to keep us particularly safe relative to terrorism.

And in all of those ways, Reverend Wright was exactly right.

So to her, the Afghanistan war wasn’t actually about fighting terrorism, but rather about attacking poor countries with ‘people of color’. It’s always about the rich white oppressor state with these people, whether it be in this country or not. This is the radical leftist mentality that, in the words of Allen West, needs to “get the hell out of the United States of America”.
