So far I think Newt is handling this ABC/ex-wife interview situation quite well. He told NBC that he wouldn’t say anything negative about his ex-wife and deferred discussion of it to his daughters, who he said wrote a letter to ABC suggesting that it is wrong for them to air the interview.
So he’s basically got his daughters on his side and he’s going to let them defend him. That’s very smart and will go far in bolstering his credibility over that of his ex-wife.
But watch the whole interview because it’s actually a very good interview from him. He’s even asked about his claim of Obama being a ‘food stamp president’ being racist and acquits himself quite well in pointing out the facts.
My only suggestion to Newt would be that when he does future interviews where he will be asked about his dirt-baggery past with his ex-wives, don’t choose a background that looks in any way like a jail cell. That was my first thought when I saw the doors behind him and that’s not all that helpful.
