Newt rips HHS Secretary on gutting welfare reform: I don’t trust her to not be liberal

Newt Gingrich said today in a conference call that they intentionally disallowed waivers in the welfare reform bill, officially known as the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act of 1996, because they didn’t trust liberals with waivers. He said they believe in a culture of dependency and that HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is a radical and that he doesn’t trust her to not be a liberal as she insists we should:

The fact is, when we wrote the bill, Section 407 was not wave-able precisely because we distrusted people like the secretary of HHS
