Newt Robocall – Romney veto forced Holocaust survivors to eat non-kosher food

Huffpo got their hands on a Robocall going out today, allegedly paid for by Newt 2012 (I say allegedly because I suppose anything is possible in this election cycle) that says the following:

As governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney vetoed a bill paying for kosher food for our seniors in nursing homes. Holocaust survivors, who for the first time, were forced to eat non-kosher, because Romney thought $5 was too much to pay for our grandparents to eat kosher. Where is Mitt Romney’s compassion for our seniors? Tuesday you can end Mitt Romney’s hypocrisy on religious freedom, with a vote for Newt Gingrich. Paid for by Newt 2012.

According to CNN, Newt denies any knowledge of it and refused to comment further since he was unaware of it.

Here’s the audio:

It’s one thing to make the point about Kosher food, but why single out Holocaust victims? Why go to the extreme to play on the feelings of people regarding something so sensitive as the Holocaust? I know it’s a tough fight and I understand fighting back against Romney’s lies, but still, seems a little over the top.

My guess is that this robocall will likely offend a good many people whether it’s technically true or not, which could sway them a different way. It will be interesting to see what Newt has to say about it later in the day as I’m sure he’ll be pressed more about it.
