NPR’s Nina Totenberg apologizes on Inside Washington for saying the word Christmas:

I want to say one thing about the budget that didn’t get passed, the omnibus bill. You know, we talk a lot about – we just passed this huge tax cut in part because business said, you know, we have to plan, we have to know what kind of tax cuts we have. Well, these agencies, including the Defense Department, don’t know how much money they’ve got and for what. And I was at – forgive the expression – a Christmas party at the Department of Justice and people actually were really worried about this. These are law enforcement people don’t know exactly what kind of money they can spend for what.

Really, this is pathetic. Has the word Christmas become such a dirty word that she actually has to say ‘forgive the expression’? Geez. I bet she wouldn’t have apologized for using the words ‘Ramadan party’.

I don't know how many millions of dollars were wasted just the few years I was in from shooting up artillery rounds, thousands of them, instead of having to go through the paperwork and "safety" hassles of just turning in the unused rounds.

It's despicable waste.

I wonder if all these people all attended the same meeting that told them not to observe religious holidays like Christmas or say it out loud. Now that our eyes are open I see it more and more. Did I miss something along the way how did they all get the same message?

I imagine her paid time off for Christmas is very upsetting to her also?

OOPS.Correction.....Santa came from the poem "A Visit from st Nicholas" or what is now "The Night Before Christmas". Guess that makes Santa a big no no too. I guess folks who "approve" of Christianity shouldn't have a Santa either.

That should be "don't approve" of Christianity.... Sorry

The Word Christmas must burn your mouth and Blister your Tounge, your response is to apologise like you said something Vile, sadly All things lose their Luster when you turn your back to the lord, you must feel a great emptyness, Bitterness Your clinging harder to your Misguided Belief`s forcing them to make sence. The greatest thing about Jesus is that he`ll alway`s forgive you. Unlike Mohamed who will demand your death for being an educated sucessful woman. I feel really bad for you.

Christmas is a Christian holiday celebrating the birth of Christ. Why is it so hard for some people to understand that? If Christ were never born, there would be no Christmas. Santa Claus came from a poem and has nothing to do with Christianity. There is a St Nicholas so I guess he is "banned" for sure!

Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday.....so there!

They changed the name of our company's "Christmas Party" to "Winter Extravaganza". Most people still call it a Christmas Party. I quit going after that, just because of the PC issue.

It is very sick when someone 'avoids' saying the word 'Christmas', much less APOLOGIZES for it!

With each rejection of God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, our nation is digging its grave a little deeper and putting more nails in our coffin. Not sure why all cannot see the connection between this rejection and why America is in wars, school killings, crime, alcoholics, pedifiles, bankruptcy, perversion, divorces, fatherless children, gov't corruption, all types of immorality, abuse of children and others, etc. If you know Jesus as your Savior, you readily understand and are saddened that so many are running headlong into hell.

I am no fan of NPR but I think she was asking for pre-forgiveness for the slam at a govt agency thinking of end-of-year spending as a Christmas party, not for saying the word "Christmas".

Years ago (decades ago, wow...) in the Navy I can remember needing to spend all our remaining budget money before the end of the year because the theory was, if you didn't need it this year you must not need it next year so your budget would be reduced by that amount. End result, some things that were nice-to-haves were purchased (after you knew you'd have the funds) and other "luxury" (aka, Christmas gifts for department) items were purchased.

Why didn't this hack-bag refuse to walk on the set with all the 'excuse me for saying Christmas' flowers all around her? I would like someone to go by her house and see if its all decorated up with, dare I say, Christmas ornaments?

Apologize to who?????? What an ass!!!!!!!!!! That kind of ignorant thinking really pisses me off! Shall all Christian Americans tell their children not to mention the word Christmas???? Your "politically correct" agenda is destroying this nation. True Americans don't agree with it. Call it what it is. Christmas! If you are atheist, then call it a holiday, but don't take the day off. Jerks!!

Boo hoo hoo *cry* my feelings are hurt. I am so sick of little brats who grew up thinking that someone actually cares about their feelings. I don't care about how anyone "feels" about a particular situation. All that matters is reality and the reality is that Christianity is peaceful and loving when follwed according to God's word and Islam is muderous and hateful when followed properly. Reality vs feelings you little brats. Stop your freakin whining.

DATLINE BETHLEHEM - Dec 25, 0000 A.D.

By Nina Totenberg

The poor in Bethlehem are misused, abused and opressed! From my window on the 25th floor of "Bethlehem Inn Hilton" I can see a wierd bright light shining on some common folks who had a baby in a barn. What kind of life can this impoverished Child expect? People living at this socio-economic level should have government funded abortions! This kind of social injustice just breaks my heart. Where's that d**n room servant? I need another hot toddy.

Have an "emotionally favorable, non-religion specific time period", Ms T. How I wish you knew your Lord and Savior. I pray you will.
