This deal- securing tax cuts for 2 more years and giving 13 mos more of unemployment was too quick and easy.
Republicans have not and will not change over night and bow to the tea party platform. Dems haven’t bowed and will not bow to either Rep. or the Tea Partiers. They have created a monstrous ‘LETS MAKE A DEAL system’ for 2011 (as they’ve done in the past) with this passage of the tax cuts and unemployment benefits..
What we will see in 2011 from the Dems will curl our toes and tick everyone off. The Dems will get their agenda thru.
This out of control socialist Gov. took decades to create and when it “train wrecks” no amount of food storage is going to protect your civil liberties. You may not be hungry, but you will surely BE LESS FREE.

It’s just to get through to the next election cycle. I’m okay with the outcome on compromise. Had this bill not passed, Republicans would have been blamed for the tax hikes and no unemployment extension.

I believe your “right” in many ways. I am excited that the tea party sent a message in Nov. But I’m pessimistic that in the short and long run it will be business as usual – even while they make it look good with compromises, because no can stop Gov from growing and taking away more and more liberties.

What in the world is going on in this country? over 3 years of unemployment benefits? Are you kidding me? You know what, I need to get myself fired and apply for unemployment, get paid for not working, and don’t tell me there are no jobs, I know there are. Just not the jobs people want. Reading the comments here made me sad… as John Stuart Mill said hundreds of years ago, “not all conservatives are stupid, but most stupid people are conservative”
… and most Republicans use the votes of those stupid masses to get into office, in order to represent the interests of their owners, the rich.
Here’s a reaaaalll simple concept that I hope you all understand: If every time the government generates a surplus (like under Clinton), you change the tax code (that nobody was complaining about) to give that surplus away (thanks GW), YOU NEVER PAY DOWN THE DEBT!

This President is just like those in his party, demonizing the other side until the last breath. But this goes beyond anything I’ve heard him say before. It’s one thing to disagree with your opponents, but it’s another thing as President to refer to your political opponents as hostage takers. We’ve heard people in his party refer to the Republicans as terrorists. Do you agree with that Mr. President?
It does absolutely nothing for the political discourse he wants the American people to have to demonize the other side as selfish uncaring villains who would rather sacrifice the American people just to keep the tax code the same.
