UPDATE: Boehner’s statement added below:

Boehner announced a ‘Plan B’ this morning, but it is still a tax hike on the wealthiest Americans which will do nothing to solve America’s fiscal crisis. I understand he’s fighting an intransigent president, but both of his plans now include a tax hike on the so-called ‘rich’ which means Obama wins. This was all a political maneuver and Boehner has fallen for it. Now it’s just a matter of who gets their taxes raised, people above $400k or people about $1 million?

Why couldn’t Plan B be to keep tax rates the same for ALL Americans?

POLITICO – House Republicans, discouraged by the pace of negotiations with the White House, will move their own bill that would hike tax rates on income above $1 million, according to several sources familiar with the plan.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told President Barack Obama of his plan last night on a phone call, according to sources.

Boehner will make the argument to House Republicans that tax rates will go up on everyone come Jan. 1. “The question for us is real simple: How do we stop as many of those rate hikes as possible?” Boehner plans to tell House Republicans.

“For weeks, Senate Republicans — and a growing number of you — have been pushing for us to pivot to a ‘Plan B,’” he will say. “I think there’s a better way. But the White House just can’t seem to bring itself to agree to a “balanced” approach, and time is running short. Taxes are going up on everyone on Jan. 1. They’re baked into current law. And we have to stop whatever tax rate increases we can. In the absence of an alternative, as of this morning, a ‘modified Plan B’ is the plan.”

House Republicans are expected to move on the bill this week, sources said. It addresses only taxes, not deep spending cuts known as the sequester that slated to take effect in the new year.

But Obama and Boehner are still a considerable distance apart on taxes. Obama wants to increase tax rates on income over $400,000. Boehner wants the threshold to be set at $1 million; the House GOP proposal would keep the lower Bush-era rates in place for income brackets below that. In essence, Boehner is seeking $1 trillion in revenue and $1 trillion in cuts — but he doesn’t think the president is willing to get there.

I just called Boehners office and told him he MUST do what is good for his constituents and not reach across the board to satisfy Obama.

Why are we conservatives allowing this to happen. It's a shame. Americans are seeking Conservatism the problem is Republicans are not offering it now except for the few Conservatives inside of the republican party. If Boehner and the RINO's don't change we going to have to make our own party.

Traitor!

Let the taxes go up on everyone and make sure Obama is held responsible for it. He is playing politics with the economy and people's lives. If Boehner was a real man, he would walk into the meeting with Obama and point out that his use of this issue to achieve the political death of the GOP is an unconstitutional abuse of power and impeachment proceedings will begin immediately. Of course, this won't happen because Boehner's manhood is secured in a lockbox somewhere.

Somebody needs to clue Boehner in, the Left isn't interested in a deal, they're salivating over those defense cuts they'd have no other godly way of achieving. Nice going Repubs...

I guess Boehner doesn't like business either. $400,000.00 isn't a lot of money when you're running a business. SOAK THE RICH! Right, Boehner.

The American people want tax increases on the rich and spending cuts, looks like Obama is getting his tax hikes but Americans aren't getting the spending cuts, This is all on Obama..

lol, you see? this is all jusr a game to Barry!

"Boehner's Plan B has been rejected" Even with Old bones' plan that would make a liberal happy with tingles, Oblabla STILL rejects it! Anybody surprised though? It's exactly what he wants. Oppose every single deal, expire the bush tax cut, and call the republicans out for not making a good enough deal.

Freakin' A--hole is all I can say.....

"...Why couldn't Plan B be to keep tax rates the same for ALL Americans?..."

IMO, the tax rate increase contained in 'Plan B' was offered by the Speaker with the full knowledge that Obama and Democrats would reject it as they did so very quickly today.

I don't believe many here will disagree with me that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) is a true conservative with support from the Tea Party as well. Cantor told his colleagues today that he wants to hold a vote on the proposal (Plan B) by the end of the week.

This is shrewd negotiating by the Republican leadership. With Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and White House spokesman Jay Carney ALL rejecting Plan B, if Republicans can move quickly and pass it this week, the ball and the 'blame-game' lies with the President and Democrats. And they will OWN THE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE, the double-dip recession and the huge increase in unemployment when sequestration, aka fiscal cliff, takes effect on January 1, 2013.

Lastly, I know most conservatives blogging disagree with me. I know they are angry with Speaker Boehner too. I find it interesting to read leftist comment sections such as The Washington Post where the vitriolic hate speech for Speaker Boehner is eerily similar to what I have read on conservative sites.

Perhaps. I'm open to you being correct (and I hope you are). That being said, now is the time to have the vote and walk away. Hell, they could still vote present and the dems would own it lock, stock and barrel.

Conservator1

I concur if we are speaking about "Plan B or the original Boehner proposal which capped deductions for the truly wealthy." Let me repeat, if Republicans move quickly and pass one of these this week, then the ball and the 'blame-game' lies with the President and Democrats.

BHliberty

Yah, I was thinking the same re the expiration of the Bush Tax Cuts. Since we have a president and senate who will never agree to anything the house proposes, (and that has been made abundantly clear today), then work in the house to work up a plan by not raising any tax cuts and leave it the same. Vote, then walk away! Just walk!

I seem to remember doing this when I was purchasing a car and we just couldn't agree to a price. IMO, the dealer lost out, not me! So let all the democrat car dealers lost out!

In the end, we all pay more ( which sucks) but maybe it will shake enough people to run from the party that has no desire for a win-win!

Orangeone

I did the same once when trying to buy an SUV. We were only $1,000 off on price. But I had given my final offer and said if declined I would walk. They declined and I walked. They called me the next day and agreed to my offer. I informed them they had the opportunity the prior evening and declined so I made other plans. It does work, walk away GOP and do it today.

Eric Cantor has been getting clobbered on conservative websites. Usually in the same paragraph as the ones excoriating Boehner. So yeah, I'm sure many will disagree on that point.

Boehner isn't going to be able to force the media to allow Barack The Destroyer to own anything. Only when it's all rubble will we get enough control to start over, and even then we'll have to see Barack's stupid grin in history books for the next fifty years as being the greatest president since FDR.

That's how long it will take to restore this nation, because it won't happen until the schools and the universities are no longer Democrat brainwashing fields.

Conservator1

I don't disagree with your comment. I see bad things arising and Obama has already fundamentally change America for the worse. He will likely have to replace 2 to 3 Supreme Court Justices (Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Anthony Kennedy and Antonin Scalia) and that will hurt this nation probably longer than 50 years.

I worked in the media and conservative Republicans have never won a leftist MSM battle and that's still the case. Reagan showed all how to deal with the MSM's bias and to win - take the message directly to the people. This is something many Republicans seem to have a problem with today.

Yet leaders like Sarah Palin, Allen West, Marco Rubio, Tim Scott, Rand Paul, etc. have no problems speaking over the MSM noise to make their points known to Americans.

Don't give these bums ANYTHING! Let it go over the "cliff." If the majority of Americans VOTED for Obama and his philosophy of higher taxes, then they can pitch in and help PAY for the more expensive government they wanted. Let them have some skin in the game too. Elections DO have consequences and it's about time the "low information voters" out there learned that.

cabensg
cabensg

There's no skin in the game for those who don't pay taxes. The majority of those who don't pay federal income taxes are low income, elderly and young families. The earners and job creators are the ones who will be effected and I agree if they voted for Obama let them pay. Who knows they may even be able to connect the dots between businesses closed, job creation stopped and income down. What I bet is it will have to be pointed out to them since they couldn't seem to discern it in the last four years.

Orangeone

The majority are not low income, elderly and young families. They majority are takers! If these young families cannot afford to have children, they need to wait until they can. I am personally sick of paying for other peoples kids because they want to multiply and collect larger welfare checks and more food stamps.

I recently wrote to my Congressman, stressing that (to paraphrase) if Boehner sells us out, I expect him to vote for "No" for Boehner as Speaker come the new term.

Here is the reply I got:

Dear Mrs. XXXXXX:

Thank you for contacting my office regarding the "fiscal cliff," including the expiration of the current tax rates. I appreciate having the benefit of your thoughts.

As you are aware, the tax rates signed into law by President Bush in 2001 and 2003 are set to expire on January 1, 2013, and automatic spending cuts known as "sequestration" are set to take effect. Congress faces a difficult path forward in negotiating whether or not to extend the current tax rates for top earners and small businesses, and how much spending we need to cut to get our budget deficits under control. Congressional Republicans favor a bipartisan solution that reduces spending in a meaningful way by reforming entitlements, while also reforming our nation's onerous tax code in order to bring in additional revenue.

Currently, negotiations are on-going between House Republican leadership, Senate Democratic leadership, and President Obama. It is my sincere hope that we find a balanced solution that begins to tackle our nation's massive debt, while also reforming our overly complicated tax code so that we can provide more economic certainty to small business owners. We can no longer afford to kick the can down the road, and this presents an opportunity for both sides to come together to solve our debt crisis in a balanced way that will not harm economic growth by arbitrarily increasing the tax burden.

While negotiations to resolve the "fiscal cliff" are ongoing, I look forward to thoroughly reviewing all proposals. Rest assured I will keep your thoughts in mind as the House votes on this issue in the coming weeks.

Thank you again for contacting my office. It is an honor to serve as your United States Congressman. Your suggestions are always welcome, and if ever I may be of assistance, please do not hesitate to call me.

Sincerely,

Patrick McHenry

So, it looks as though the word is out, and although my Congressman is typically a reliable conservative - this "deal" will likely get the votes to pass the GOP House.

And, that, my friends, signals the end of the party, and quite frankly, the nation.

I'm going to go eat some Christmas cookies.

I expect some Sound & Fury from the "conservative" in DC and some possible nominations but I seriously doubt any one of the "Tea Party" congressmen will have the balls to stand in opposition to the wretched failure John Boehner.

Boehner is a progressive and an elitist. He did not fail, fall short, or give in. He is a role player fulfilling an agenda to a completely false presentation of left v. right. The GOP is now the caboose on the progressive train heading west, and I don't think it can be reclaimed, only abandoned.

Keep taxes for the top two brackets the same and actually cut the bottom three tax brackets. Then if Obama says no just tell him about saying it is not a time to raise taxes in November 2010.
