These debt ceiling negotiations must be getting pretty intense. We all know how Obama likes to vacation. Perhaps if he didn’t waste so much time on Twitter yesterday taking one softball question after another, he wouldn’t have had to cancel his vacation this weekend in Whitefish, Montana.
WHITEFISH – President Barack Obama, who for the past week was rumored to be planning a vacation in Whitefish, has canceled his trip, law enforcement officials said Tuesday.
“We were in the planning phase when we were told it was canceled,” Whitefish Police Chief Bill Dial said. “I don’t know why he canceled. I’m assuming it’s because of the national budget.”
Government offices throughout the Flathead Valley were making preparations for the presidential visit when they learned of the cancellation last week, Dial said.
Law enforcement agencies in Whitefish, Kalispell and Columbia Falls had committed officers to assist the Secret Service during Obama’s visit, which was scheduled July 8-10. He was reportedly planning to stay at the Lodge at Whitefish Lake, though resort officials said they had no knowledge of the visit and would not confirm or deny a cancellation.
“I really don’t know anything about it,” a lodge employee said when reached by telephone.
The Secret Service also made arrangements with the Office of Emergency Services and the Forest Service to assist with logistics and help coordinate the president’s vacation itinerary.
“Just about everyone was planning to work,” Dial said. “We were assigning our officers to security detail wherever he might want to fish or golf or rest. The vacation was to be strictly R and R. It wasn’t political.”
Oh well, there’s always golf at St. Andrews. Not to mention 10 days at Martha’s Vineyard next month. Plus whatever other mini-vacations he no doubt has scheduled in between.
