Obama's own OMB has shown that allowing marginal rates to return to Clinton-era levels would result in about $84 billion of revenue per year (and that is assuming everything else remains the same).
The federal budget deficit is now $1.5 trillion per year.
The fact that people like Pelosi can engage in this worthless class warfare demonstrates just how ignorant and gullible so many Americans are.
There is no "fiscal cliff" except the one in our rear view mirror that we drove off in 1971. Brace for impact.
Let's have an "inside the beltway tax" of 90%. This would include all those working for the three branches of the federal government. Tax their pensions at 50%. Cough up Pelosi!
It's not a fiscal cliff anymore, it is more like the grand canyon. And any of the spineless RINO's that go along with this should be voted out of office if they run again. We need a Congress that will go through the laws and eliminate all the unconstitutional ones, starting with 0b0care.
Then do their job and eliminate the over bearing bureaucracies instead of fostering off their duties to them.
They have too many departments going on... All of the Departments have many more Offices, Agencies, Centers and Bureaus. If 90% were gone tomorrow, a working person wouldn't miss'em and wouldn't know they ever existed.

We all know thats not true because ever since the doed has arrived our schools have done nothing but drop in world status. The RINO's will never do that, never. Even though they control the funding for it. I'm with you but they won't do it.

There I fixed it for you, Nancy. Because that is exactly what raising taxes on those making $200,000+/year will be doing. The same small businesses that employ 58% of Americans, the same small businesses that will already be hit by Obamacare. The Destructive party came up with the perfect plan to kill off small businesses.
When she and her rich husband give everything they own to the poor, I'll give her a gold star and a certificate. Until then, she can buzz off.

If the economy is good they still cheat workers on wages and benefits. If the economy is bad they take the jobs away, they use it as leverage to scare the hell out of everyone else and cut their wages more. Either way we are screwed. Started my own business-they can all stick it.

Is anyone paying attention to the loopholes cut into policy that allow them to take advantage of the system they create? Nancy Pelosi is a millionaire herself, she should be concerned to have to pay more, but it doesn't seem to phase her, I can't believe that she is willing to pay more out of a "generous heart", there must be some unseen pass they are giving themselves that the rest of the American millionaires are not immune to.
Once the "fair share" rhetoric becomes mainstream, we're screwed. And the rhetoric is definitely mainstream.

In order for the higher income people to pay their "fair share", then they should get a massive tax cut while those who currently pay no income taxes should have to start paying.

Ay carumba. There's not a lot of distance because Democrat hard-liner bomb-throwers and their leaders. Their hard-liners and bomb-throwers get to be their leaders! Alan Grayson and Nancy Pelosi are in the same wing of the party! And they get along fine.
And yet on our side you have boo hoo Boehner caving in to whatever Obama wants, working AGAINST the Tea Party Caucus while failing to work against Obama, and intimidating and trying to muzzle real conservatives like Michele Bachmann to cover Obama while being utterly complicit and groveling with whatever Obama wants.
Their leaders are part of their base. Our leaders have contempt for their base.
People in Government have been lying to the general public for so long, nobody can tell reality from illusions.

It has always been the plan of the progressive left that controls the Democratic party. To have the middle and lower economic citizenry be beholden to big government. By using the class warfare rhetoric ad nauseum and infinitum. They have successfully fooled the American electorate with the help of the liberal media and all institutions of learning.
The rich will always do well no matter who is in power, and they will be able to thrive even with the tax hikes proposed by the Democratic party. The fix has been set, and the Hamiltonian's are just a fiscal cliff away from taking over the country with a new form of monarchy....Government Rules!

In other words, Democrats get 100% of everything they want or there's no deal. And they say Republicans are the ones who won't compromise. Democrats don't know what the word "compromise" means.
The fact is, Democrats have no incentive to avoid the fiscal cliff. It offers everything they want: higher taxes, cuts to the military, and the opportunity to blame Republicans for all of it. Don't believe what Democrat politicians say in public. They would love to raise taxes on the middle class along with the rich. They always have. But they know they can only get away with it if they can blame the GOP. So House Republicans are walking into a trap they helped set up when they made the sequester agreement. They think Democrats only want to raise taxes on the rich and will do anything to avoid raising taxes on the middle class. But nothing could be further from the truth. The trap is about to be sprung and they don't have a clue.
The GOP has 2 options.
1 "Stand Down" and let Obama and the DNC raise taxes and increase spending all they want. Make Obama send the bills over and then have all Republicans vote "Present" forcing the DNC to OWN what happens.
2 "Stand Their Ground" and let the "deal" already made come into effect. The tax increases are in reality only allowing the rates to go back to "normal". The "cuts" to the budget are not cuts at all rather they are cuts to the automatic increases in the baseline budget.
If the GOP does anything in the middle of these two positions they will lose the House in 2014.
The "rich" do not care what the tax rate is. It does not apply to them. Want proof? Look up Mrs John Hienz-Kerry's 2005 tax return. Any increase in tax rates will only apply to the middle class.
I am so sick and tired of them just saying that taxes will resolve all the nations woes. You know what would be fair if the poor actually start paying their fair share in taxes. Forget the rich what about the poor. They're the ones who ask for these free things so they should start paying for it.
Well, the 'rich' would include Pelosi and her husband but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for her to pay her 'fair share'. Like all of the congress critters she is exempt from most of the regulations that impact the majority of Americans...and I would bet she exempts herself, as much as possible, from paying taxes.
I am so tired of seeing her face and hearing her ignorant commentary. Show some dignity and retire already.

Weak cowards. If they really cared about the tax paying citizens they would have elected Newt as speaker to put Pelosi in her place. OK - let Madame P, Monsieur Reid and ther est of the rich congress critters lead by example: let them pay all the taxes ordinary people pay: no exemptions, no excuses, because they're congress critters - oh, and of course they must pay the full Obamacare as well.

I would beg to differ. If there are any Dems in the House that don't walk the party line she will be twisting their arms and threatening them. She drives a hard bargain and Boehner could learn a few things from her about sticking to your guns.

I really want the American people to think this through...regardless of whether you think that taxing a segment of our population that creates jobs is wise or not.
follow the logic. Reconcile within your minds two talking points the progressive politicians and media are telling you.
1. "We need to ask the rich to pay their fair share"
2. "It isn't fair that the rich pay less effective rate than their secretary" This, regardless of the fact that we are talking about two different taxes (Cap gains and payroll)
So, how do they make sure that the bush tax cuts only expire for the very rich? Only raise the top marginal rate? how does that bring in more revenue when nobody pays the top marginal rate? (Thus, the accusation that they pay a lower rate than their secretary). The only way to fix point #2 is to raise the tax on capital gains....which curbs investment and trade.
The slowing of investment and trade will burst the trading bubble that is being created by QE. Once that bursts, inflation and interest rates rise. Then, it is hello to the Carter years.

This is all smoke and mirrors for the lack of appetite by both parties to cut entitlements. I don't think there is anyone out there that actually thinks that any cuts will be enacted that are greater than the built in annual increases that are already in the budget. We aren't serious. We are heading over the cliff.
I agree, David. No tax increase is enough to make any fiscal correction. If spending isn't cut (including the stimulus increases that have been embedded in the annual budget) there is no hope of averting chaos. And the minute the interest rates go up we will spend more in servicing the debt than we are spending on any other expense. At that point, the house of cards collapses IMHO.
They will be after all the 401k's and IRA funds next and try to sell us on some gov't retirement annuity cheese.

What we REALLY NEED is a full fledged TAX REVOLT....taxation without representation is occurring right before our eyes.

Strange how you never hear people demand "bipartisanship" from liberals. Never. With people like Pelosi it's either her way or the highway. And her way involves taxing EVERYBODY to death. I would give the Democrats NOTHING. Republicans are going to be blamed for whatever happens, so why give in? And if there IS a major deal and taxes go up, do you ever, EVER, think that the Republicans will get any credit for it? Not on your life. It will be seen as a major victory for Obama and it will be seen as the Republicans caving to the demands of liberals, even though we only lost the election by about 1%. So give them nothing. If we go over the fiscal cliff, so do they. But at least we'll be standing for something. Let them beg for a deal from US, not the other way around.
