The Second Amendment wasn't designed to allow people to own tanks or rocket launchers. That goes along the same line of thinking that Morgan expressed, but it's not quite as extreme as what he said, being that it wouldn't ban any kinds of weapons that are currently legal. And it's completely true that the Second Amendment doesn't allow people to own tanks. The Supreme Court upheld, in their landmark decision finding an individual right to own guns in the Second Amendment, that certain restrictions on gun ownership are legal. If people owned tanks, there would be more violence and on terrible scales.

So you see, any weapon authorized for the military should be available to the ordinary citizen. In the Revolutionary War and Civil War people brought their own cannons. And, yes, people in the U.S. do own tanks. I guess that's enough food for thought. Hope you chew on it a little.

How's all that gun control doing in England, Piers? Overall crime is still high, even if most of the crimes are not committed with guns. Only difference is, more people are defenseless to fight back against it. If people are determined to commit a crime, they will do so regardless of the weapon they have.
I don't know about the UK but in other countries there are a lot of knives of all kinds. Aggression will find a way.

The Second Amendment was to provide American citizens with the weaponry needed to maintain their liberty against any tyranny of their OWN government. It was not about hunting or sport shooting or self-defense. It was about being able to stand up to any government that becomes tyrannical.
ANY Federal law concerning weapons infringes on the peoples' right to keep and bear arms and therefore is directly and explicitly unconstitutional. The Federal government is granted NO power to establish ANY gun law by the Constitution.
All powers not explicitly granted to the Federal government are reserved to the States and the People by the Tenth Amendment.
I use the past tense in describing the Second Amendment for it is dead. The People no longer have the power to oppose the tyranny of the Federal Government. The Shining City on the Hill is dead. Our government has long passed the tyranny that ignited our War of Independence. We are no longer "one nation of liberty and justice for all."
By the way, the British were ordered by Gage to march to Lexington to capture Sam Adams and John Hancock, then on to Concord to seize and destroy "Ammunition, Provisions, Artillery, Tents, small Arms and all Military Stores whatever."
The words "..shall not be infringed" did not include the words "until something better is invented than the musket."
Gun Control is all about controlling law abiding citizens from owning guns and arming themselves, not about de-arming the criminals- Criminals don't care about the law, let alone obey the law, that's why they're criminals.
