Rand Paul rips Elliot Spitzer over biased agenda

Rand Paul gave as substantive an answer to Spitzer as I’ve heard anyone give to the MSM as they continue to try and make Republican candidates look bad by trying to nail them on Social Security cuts or other line by line ‘specific’ cuts. Spitzer first hits him on Social Security, asking him if he’ll make a 25% cut in order to balance the budget. Paul responded by saying there are other cuts to other programs that will keep them from having to do anything so draconian to Social Security and reinforced the idea that any reforms will only affect the next generation, not anyone currently on or soon to be on Social Security.

Spitzer continued down a list of specific cuts, but Rand made it clear that it’s difficult to say at this time what they will cut and how much they will cut, until they look at everything. Just like above, some programs may only get cut minute amounts because there are other programs that they may cut entirely because they are not needed. Paul also told him that in 2 months Paul will reveal his budget with different alternatives and it will detail all the cuts he believes should be made. But that wasn’t good enough for Spitzer, who accused Paul of filibustering and avoiding the question, and of course he continue to try and get Paul on some specific cuts.

Paul finally told him “Your personal agenda is getting in the way of you being a good broadcaster” and said they needed to end the interview. BAM!

Paul did the right thing and answered all of Spitzer’s questions, despite Spitzer’s biased agenda. I must say that this narrative that the MSM is pushing on Republicans, trying to nail them on major cuts to Social Security and other programs that they can in turn use to try and scare the American people, didn’t work on Paul and I hope other Republicans watch this interview and learn from Paul’s excellent and appropriate rebuttal.
