I don't put much weight in straw polls. Many of the votes are bought.

While I like Rand and appreciate some of the things he has done in the senate, particularly the filibuster,he has too many libertarian leanings for me to take comfort in.I am not sure I could support him  in a presidential campaign.

@57thunderbird You do realize that Conservatism comes from Libertarianism?! I think you are about to see a changing of the guard. Rand Paul, or even Ted Cruz, are going to become the face of what might possibly be a new party, getting away from the GOP that has lost it's way. People like Rubio, Cristie, Walker, and others, are not what they seem. They do something you love to see, then they change their stripes and toss a wrench in the entire thing. What you will miss will be the Paul/Cruz swing. Both men are about to shake things up with the old guard.

I can already see that same "Ron Paul" crappola starting up, this time for Rand, who caved to their demands.

No Rand Paul for me....I want REAL Leadership, not a dog and pony show and then turn around and allow anti Israel Far Left Crazies  to become Cabinet Members.

CPAC Straw Polls mean nothing...........

JimCohen
JimCohen

@TheresaAK...so who is your real leadership?

Barton1
Barton1 like.author.displayName 1 Like

@TheresaAK Such as what Rubio did in voting for Brennan? Rand gave at least a Constitutional "reason" for voting for Hagel(not that I agree with the vote). I have yet to hear Rubio's big stance on voting for Brennan. Paul and Cruz will be the one's to watch, as they have been the front two defending the Constitution.

And, let's remember, Paul held up Hagel, there were 14 Repbulicans that ended cloture on the man, then voted against him(the ole wiping before you poop stance). There are 54 Dems in the Senate, all of whom are in lockstep with voting for Hagel, meaning that, if you only need 51 votes to pass someone once cloture is closed, does a single vote from a Republican make a difference?

As for the "same crappola", not quite sure what you "see', but I think you need to clean your glasses.

Thank you for proving my point...carry on....

Barton1

@TheresaAK @Barton1 Not sure what you think I "proved"? Paul and Cruz are going to completely turn around the GOP(Dem-lite) to a more Conservative-Libertarian view. Since you have your Karl Rove decoder ring on, what is it that you see coming from Libertarians, such as myself, who believe the GOP has lost their way? What!? No answer!? What a shocker! The GOP is gonna keep loosing elections unless they reform themselves to a more Libertarian viewpoint. Cruz won, despite the GOP machine, same with Paul.

Up front let me say that my politics are slightly to the right of that famous warloard Mr. Kahn.

Having said that I love Dr. Paul, love him to death, loved his recent 13 hour performance.

But Rand Paul is AGAINST abortion in cases of Rape and that will cost us, Conservatives, 1/2 of the voters in this country at election time and hence we will lose again. Her has to soften his position with appearing to be a hypocrite..

how is chris christie so high on this thing?  That guy's a northeast republican which is basically  like a moderate democrat in the south.  I'm not too sure how he is a conservative.  Didn't he accept the ACA coop or whatever the states were asked to do?  I'm not a fan of him.

Rand Paul was steadfast in his belief that drones to take out Americans on US soil - esp those who were non combative was a very bad thing.

I salute him for standing up in the Filibuster to defend our Constitution, and the citizens of our Country…while waiting for the WH to address the question he asked re the drone issue.

For those who want Ted Cruz; Cruz was born in Canada, making him ineligible unfortunately.

From what I see know, Rand Paul 2016

That does seem like a dichotomy, doesn't it?

Rand who is more of a Libertarian, open minded,  and right of center guy. , And Marco who is much more mainstream…Get a long politican.

I'm surprised Ted Cruz only received 4%, and Sarah Palin 3%.

Other 14%. Hmmmm.  That's 1% for (or exchange your favorite)

Perry, West, Bachman, Bush, Gingrich, Cain, Ron Paul, Romney, Pawlenty,Johnson, Mc Cotter, Roemer, Huntsman, Mickey Mouse.

@poljunke That's the CPAC vote for you. They welcome conservative speakers (unless it's about Islam) but it's been taken over by the Libertarians at least by the way they've voted for the last couple of years.

@poljunke Yes, while Sen. Paul put on quite a show last week, he has voted YES on many other Obama appointments. Many still call Rubio a RINO. Cruz voted against all Obama appointments.

Yeah, forget Rubio. He has not acted or fought in the interest of the Tea Party as Senator. I don't get why he's called a Tea Partier in the media.

Rand's the man and should get the nomination in 2016 and we would finally be free of the old guard's yoke and the constant chiseling away at our civil freedoms. He should make Ted Cruz his running mate. These two are actually serious about stopping the growth of government.

@Conservative_Hippie You know how I feel CH. Unfortunately Rubio is on his heels. The GOP has their guy, and the Libertarian/Conservative/Tea Party have theirs. This could become a very VERY ugly battle.

I would have chosen Perry, Paul  #2,  West # 3. I just hope we can all unite behind one strong Conservative next go around instead of having the Conservative vote splintered.

Barton1

@Gtrjag Perry is not a Conservative. I like him for the most part as my Governor, but he has done things that show he is far from Conservative. He like raising taxes just like a Dem, he just calls them fees.

Gtrjag
Gtrjag like.author.displayName 1 Like

@Barton1 @Gtrjag Perry is not perfect, but he is a Conservative and he is above all else a Constitutionalist. He believes in Federalism and states rights and he is passionate about it. There are two men right now who I would trust to at least try and restore the balance between the States and Washington and they are Rick Perry and Rand Paul. Perry would be better for National Security, so I would prefer him.
