On Jan 31 Rep. Allen West was asked about running for either President or Vice President in 2012. Here’s his answer:
I’ve two reasons for posting this. First, I’m sure most of you have noticed the straw poll on my front page. I’ve gotten several requests to add Allen West to the poll but the problem is, he isn’t running. There’s no point, at least in my mind, to add him if he is dead set on not running. I am looking for a more practical outcome weighed against the field of those who are considering a run.
Secondly, I just want to point out how awesome his answer is when saying he won’t run in 2012. He says we must must get away from the cult of personality and elect people based on merit and talent, which is exactly right. We’ve seen up close and personal what the cult of personality can lead to in the Presidency and we must get away from that and back to a more merit-based selection process.
So there will be no Allen West running in 2012 for the Presidency, and I would respect him greatly for that.
