Rep. Conyers: The federal government needs an employment policy to lower unemployment

This video is exactly what is wrong with Detroit and exactly what is wrong with America. Basically what we have going on is a job fair sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus in Detroit. This occurred last year when the CBC was traveling around the country holding job fairs. Now I don’t have a problem with job fairs in general, but what I do have a problem with is this tyrannical attitude on the part of these legislators who feel they are responsible for corralling people into a job fair and coercing companies into hiring people in order to lower the unemployment rate. Just listen to Conyers:

Now we know that companies are not responsible for lowering unemployment rates. The problem is, who’s going to do it? And the answer is that the federal government has got to have an employment policy that’s full employment. We want to get the unemployment rate down and that’s what we’re doing here.

The federal government having an employment policy that’s full employment? What is this the Soviet Union? NO! If you want to get the unemployment rate down then get the heck out of the way and stop trying to engineer this economy.

Then chimes in Conyers again with Waters:

And there is no exhibitor here that hasn’t committed to hiring. So you can’t just buy space to advertise.

And accountability – we’re going to follow up with all of the employers and see exactly how many they hired. We do have accountability built into the structure.

What is this accountability? You can’t force a company to hire people. This is America dammit! Just because they are committed to hiring people doesn’t mean they will find someone who fits their job qualifications. Tell me Rep. Waters, what is the punishment for not hiring someone?

Look, I’ll be blunt. The feeling I get from this video is that the plantation owners (the CBC) are looking down on the plantation they’ve created with their economic engineering policies – the policies that keep people dependent on the government. And while they are overseeing the workers and the job providers in their plantation, they are filled with a sense of accomplishment, that they’ve reached out their hand to try and feed those that depend on them. After all, it is their obligation to run the plantation they’ve created. But oh, they enjoy it because it keeps them in power.

This video makes me sick.

Hansen Clarke (D-MI): We want people to get some jobs today. So that’s why the Congressman and I invited employers that are ready to hire folks today to come here and we invited the public who need jobs. But the great thing is that we have so many talented, educated, well trained people here in metro Detroit is that these employers are really blessed to have this opportunity. But as you can see the demand and the need for jobs is very great.

John Conyers (D-MI): Now we know that companies are not responsible for lowering unemployment rates. The problem is, who’s going to do it? And the answer is that the federal government has got to have an employment policy that’s full employment. We want to get the unemployment rate down and that’s what we’re doing here. We’re going to be doing it in Las Angeles and across the country.

Danny Davis (D-IL): This job fair and others around the country provides individuals access who don’t always know how to get to the companies; don’t always know how to find where the jobs are and this helps tremendously to know that there are jobs and you can find them.

John Conyers (D-MI): And there is no exhibitor here that hasn’t committed to hiring. So you can’t just buy space to advertise.

Maxine Waters (D-CA): And accountability – we’re going to follow up with all of the employers and see exactly how many they hired. We do have accountability built into the structure.
