Rep. King says that indeed the drone attacks in Yemen and the latest underwear bomber were linked and part of the same operation, however he couldn’t say much more given his position. But CNN contributor Fran Townsend fills in the gaps telling us that the main guy responsible for the attack, the plot coordinator, was killed by a drone attack which put the operation in a bit of chaos and allowed the US to stop the bomber:

I'm sticking to what I said, earlier: by sending people like the USASFC (United States Army Special Forces Command) in to these places to gather intel and get those on the capture or kill list, its possible we could've learned about this a long time ago. Instead, we're learning what little we can forensically, from wreckage and pocket litter. Stupid way of doing things. We seriously need to get back into the HUMINT (Human Intelligence) game. Remember: part of the reason behind al-Qaeda's success was the fact that idiots like Clinton broke down and impeded the HUMINT capabilities of agencies like the CIA.

Obama can claim that he's expanded the role of the CIA, and that they've 'won' the War on Terror, but that's just another of his many lies. Having CIA drone pilots roam the world, look at scenes from hundreds to thousands of feet in the air and fire missiles isn't expanding anything, especially when their agents and operators aren't capturing anyone, or really getting any fresh intel. That, and the GWOT has not been won. The enemies of America still exist, and have no reduction in resolve to harm Americans, though their numbers may've been reduced. Closing your eyes and sticking your head up your ass like a retarded ostrich isn't going to suddenly make your (Obama's) stupid to asinine arguments right.

We need USSOCOM working with the USIC (United States Intelligence Community), considering the military produces a large amount of our intel. We need Rangers, SF (Special Forces) and ACE (Army Compartmentalized Element) out roaming the world, looking for whom they can capture and/or kill, and whom they can get intel out of, in order to prevent the next terrorist attack or assassination. Obama (and the people surrounding him) is just plain too incompetent, uneducated and flat out stupid to see this.

Loose lips sink ships. I'd rather read about all of this some ten years from now in some CIA tell-all book. Gor now, I'd rather that the people with a "need to know" be privy to this information and not the whole friggin world. Killing bad guys is great. But what about future terror plots? Capturing terrorists and subjecting them to harsh interrogation is also needed. Or maybe the whole idea here is to not capture terrorists so that Obama can close Guantanimo?

Drone killing the plot coordinator is a problem not a good thing if we had captured the guy we could have stopped other attacks now we have foiled just one, drone should be used to take out infrastructure and the small guys based on intel not the planners

here is a wild thought ... DON'T TALK ABOUT ANY OF THIS in the papers ... the intel community must be pulling their hair out ...

Imagine what kind of chaos would have occured if we had captured the plot coordinator ... but then we might have to hold him somewhere ... like the soon to be closed Gitmo ... can't have that ...

Rep. King is a patriot and believe that it would not be wise to fill in the details yet.

You are right and HarlemGhost is right, we do not need to know the finer details of these ops, it is best for these terrorists to be suspicious of each other and always looking over their shoulders for that hellfire missile making a surprise visit.

Sounds to me like we do have some Humint assets that are particularly quite, productive, and deeply imbedded in certain cells. I hope these assets are not compromised by Obama or Bidens big braggadocious mouths. It is very alarming they have been able to come up with some type of ignition system that can foil our detection.

my bet is it was local Yemen intel folks who did the dirty work ... but good on our CIA for working so well with them ...

Obama does love drones. He has a standing army of them, with D's after their names, Hollywood zipcodes, Occupiers, Judges, solidly blue states.

Obama and Soros, among others, control the remotely controlled servo mechanisms.

I hate to drone on about this... but this is the ONLY thing that Obama has done right in his failed pResidency - getting out of the way and letting the CIA and our military do their job. And their job is to kill the bad guys. And business is good.

So getting no usable intelligence from someone, we were able to foil an attack? Um hogwash. The only way that would be true is if we bombed the hell out of everyone els in the world. The thing I think that they completely are glossing over with this person getting blown up by a drone, is he was key in the USS Cole bombing so we are FINALLY getting some justice for that bombing. Although Clinton would say he did his job in retaliating but I once heard it said that his retaliation amounted to spending millions of dollars to launch missiles around the world to hit a camel in the ass.

Well, while you're washing your hog, just remember that people do get lucky. Apparently, the terrorists just happened to congregate in the wrong place, at the wrong time (or the right place, at the right time, depending on perspective). They got killed, and forensic investigation uncovered this plot. I seriously doubt this operation was targeted; just some individuals.

This is a drone attack that I think was well warranted.

Oh I am not by any means saying we should not have gotten this guy. I am happy that we did, I just think it is ridiculous for the left to be so high and mighty about Obama doing more drone attacks when we got nothing out of killing all these folks as opposed to capturing them and getting information out of them. I think we definitely need to take the opportunities we have to get these folks in one way or another, I just wish we were able to capture and interrogate still.
