Rick Santorum gave a short but inspiring speech at the March for Life in DC today, saying that death is never better just because they say you’ll be inconvenienced. Rather, he says that his life and the lives of his family members are all better because of his little girl Bella, who suffers from Trisomy 18.

As a father of a trisomy 18 daughter, the time spent before the birth during the birth and during the short life of my daughter, were some of the closest times with God and family.

God places these children in our lives as a gift to make us better.

Thank you to Nukeman60 and the others for your insightful, heartfelt and intelligent comments in this thread. You all said what I was thinking. Thanks to Scoop for posting the original article/video. All I have left to say is a thanks to Rick Santorum for taking the time to stand up for life when other politicians were apparently just too busy.

I love what Santorum says, but his actual voting record was not as Pro-life or as Conservative as Newt's.

Dennis Miller once said that liberals always want government to take care of you from "cradle to grave." But the trick with liberals is getting to the cradle to begin with, given all of the abortion they demand.

It's sad when people in this country can't even agree that terminating a life in the third trimester is murder. An actual, living human being is being killed and yet liberals have no problems with that. THAT has always been my biggest rage against abortion, killing a late-term life just because the mother wakes up one day and decides she doesn't want the child. And who speaks for the child? Who defends the most helpless among us? Who has the backbone to tell these killers that they are wrong? I can tolerate many things, but I CANNOT tolerate an attack on the most defenseless among us. THAT really is going down the road to Nazi Germany, because today they come for the babies, tomorrow they will try to logically convince people that the elderly need to go. And with Obama's death panels being set up as we speak, that day may not be far off. After all, liberals think that any "inconvenient" life should be done away with, regardless of age.

"The trick with Liberals is getting to the cradle in the first place."

That's a very good thought. We should promote "Adoption--not abortion". Once in the cradle, a new mother may then want her baby, and the father too. Seeing is believing----in life.

Good Job in the defense of life...birth to death. No one said it would be easy, life is hard, but God-given. Bless you and your family.

Thank god his beautiful child is alive, when I saw the headline I thought "damn bella died", I offer a prayer for all the babies in the world, and the unborn. Since Roe Vs Wade decision 55 million babies aborted in the US, where is the outrage from the left?, one of those 55 million babies might have been the one that finds the cure for cancer, or aids, or any of the many illnesses that affect humanity. The United States started the decline after that decision.

The feminists won. America lost. Until now. Things are beginning to turn around. Nothing ever stays the same.

I believe we are experiencing national blindness and judgement (under the scourge of Obama) because of our nations 55 million aborted baby holocaust. How could we not be? Israel was judged in the Old testament for passing their children through the fire. Modern day abortion is no different. May America repent and turn from these wicked ways.

He was painted as a crazed, radical religious, papist whacko...and most of the sheeple probably still believe that...and that Sarah Palin didn't give birth to her son.

Well done, Sen. Santorum in articulating and highlighting life and helping people to understand the grumsome and archaic act of abortion!

Pro-death advocates always use the cases of incest or rape as an excuse for allowing abortions. These cases amount to only 1% of the horrific loss of pre-born babies in our country. But even in these cases, where the woman has already suffered tremendously, taking the life of something that is a part of them and leaving them feeling the guilt of responsibility, intensifies the point that death is never the better choice.

Who's to say that taking that child to full term, keeping it or giving it up for adoption, and possibly gaining a sense of grabbing something good out of the jaws of despair, isn't just what that person needed to try and mend at least a portion of a life - two lives - that have been torn asunder from a despicable deed.

A life is a precious thing indeed. It can't ever be looked at as if it were just a vegetable on the conveyor belt, to be tossed if unwanted or saved if it looks good. God forgive us our ignorance, if that is what we have become.

Excellent commentary. Thank you.

When abortion was legalized, more than one doctor had to agree it was to save the mother's life. Today, doctors just ask a pregnant woman if she wants to keep it, at the first sign of a possible 'problem'.

People would talk about the slippery slope of abortion being used for birth control. That was denied. It's exactly what has happened. All the talent, brilliant minds and young population needed to sustain seniors lost because of selfishness. After 55 million abortions, and counting, at least we can see young people beginning to see the lies and the sufferings from abortion 'clinics'. Calling abortion 'health' is so absurd. People who are in favor of abortion will say things like 'isn't that a cute baby', when it made it through the womb, but if it would have been aborted, wouldn't have cared less.---same baby.

What hypocrites. Now, just as in China, people can choose to abort if the gender isnt what they wanted. What a horrible, pagan, barbarian idea. Where is the conscience? So many millions of women who aborted suffer psycological distress the rest of their lives. Abortion is not worth it. A baby can bring such joy and laughter to a home. Adoption, not abortion. 55 million is enough.
