I like this guy. It takes conviction to admit to a national audience that you only voted for NCLB because of party politics and that you would favor repealing it if elected, and he is saying this at the same time that all of the "not-Romney" people are giving him a critical look. Honesty, especially the kind that makes you look bad in retrospect, is a powerful and decisive trait that leaders possess. Learning from mistakes is what makes good policy and good people. Unfortunately "learning" it isn't often regarded as "good politics" and we are now 15 trillion in debt.
Let us please make it "politically possible for the wrong people to do the right things".
Well said! Honesty and humility are rare traits for public figures nowadays especially in an election year. And I believe that is why there is an obvious resurgence of Rick Santorum's campaign right now.
Santorum is not talking much about the Tea Party right now (that I know of), but just a few days ago the video with the short clips where he was talking about "libertarian influence" within the conservative movement, the Republican Party, and the TPM. I just stumbled across a longer piece, much more in context, of what he said.
It's not the first time I've seen this display that's almost contemptuous. His attitude is not good, and takes me back to the earlier debates when Santorum's demeanor was just sanctimonious and unlikable. Anyway, for anyone that didn't see the "extended version", here it is.
His vote to filibuster the Federal Right to work law in 96 is a much more troubling vote. That was an inexplicable abrogation of a fundamental conservative principle. He voted with all the Democrats, Jim Jeffords and Arlen Specter to prevent the cut off of debate. It had nothing to do with Pennsylvania, to his explanation just doesn't follow.
How can Santorum say such things about liberal romney and now want us to believe him after what he did to the conservatives on Super Tuesday who were looking forward to having him and Newt take out liberal romney?
Santorum: "What I learned from 2006 PA campaign, now leads me to believe that you can change. Mitt romney who "used to be" just saying what voters want to hear, but really , I now believe he really is a conservative I can trust. He has gone through the pressure cooker and understands what conservatives stand for. Romney understands what conservatives stand for..."
After yesterday's cowardish run from the Ohio and Georgia GOP led debate, I can't listen to Rick Santorum anymore! He is such a strong disappointment. Santorum is not talking about reforming, regulating, auditing the FED, or protecting/backing currency, or supply-side economics, reforming DC, term limits, draining the Jacuzzi, changing and fixing the election mess....
Keep studying, thinking, praying hard.
Term Limits
Rick Santorum – I had the opportunity to ask Rick Santorum about Congressional term limits at the Florida Republican Party straw poll and debate in Orlando last September. His face lit up. He said, paraphrasing, that “I was the only person on that stage tonight that can say he has actually imposed term limits,” referring to his efforts in his first term to impose 6-year term limits on Senate committee chairs.
He continues to boast about this. In January, he told CNN that “I was a big reformer in the House and the Senate… what we did in the Senate with just reforming the Senate itself and putting term limits in place. I mean, term limits is a big reform."

Auditing the Fed
When it comes to economic issues, Santorum believes in abolishing taxes for the manufacturing sector; a freeze of social spending programs for five years, and federal pay for four; and a cutting of the corporate tax rate in half, from 35 percent to 17.5. Santorum also supports auditing the Federal Reserve and defunding the Dodd-Frank Bill.

Over the last 3 days I have been viewing all the "rick santorum interview" googled and continue being impressed by the consistency of his answers to questions raised in those interviews. Who else in the political arena can beat that?
I started watching Santorum too, and liked him a lot until yesterday's fiasco. Now I'm most troubled by these Santorum remarks:

That's what the debates can be used for then. To show that Mitt cheated again. You know, by congratulating Paul for the win!
Compared to what Congress keeps caving to Obama and voting for now? It's getting harder and harder for me to get upset at Santorum and his votes for Bush policies.
This isn't receiving nearly the coverage it deserves...
Mitt Romney could be stripped of Maine win
I did see this and can't help thinking that this kind of defeat snatched from the jaws of victory will be Mittens' legacy.
It started in Iowa and has followed him throughout the primaries and caucuses. If it isn't a vote recount, it's Gingrich asking for vote recounts.

This is twice now! First Santorum then Paul. I could care less about Paul but can they just give us a free and fair election? Both times the establishment gave Romney the win. This is really pissing me off!
I would love to see a backlash protest vote for Paul in VA. But VA is so in the tank for MR that I am sure they will find a way to manufacture the votes for MR.

Thanks for the link, btw. I can't stand her either, but it gets pretty scary when I have to agree with the Madcow on anything. She made it sound like the entire Republican primary system was messed up and for the first time in my life, I'm forced to agree with her. Now I have to go wash my mouth out with soap and conservatism.
If you can stand Rachel Maddow for 12 minutes, this video will give you the entire story about the shenanigans taking place in Maine. This is Banana Republic type stuff. The GOP Chairman is on the record as refusing to announce Paul as the winner if the he ends up with more votes. I had heard things about this over the past few days, but had not realized how messed up it really is until I watched this. This is Iowa X 1000.

I was feeling a little metro sexual there for a few minutes, but I pulled out a Rambo movie to watch and I'm feeling better now. I'm still creeped out that I agreed with Madcow, though.

There's only a few thousand Ron Paul supporters in the country. It just seems like there's a lot since they all vote in the same online polls.
It is shameful and it is going to alienate other voters too. It is so doggone obvious that the establishment is doing everything in their power to get MR in there. The bigger question is WHY? It must be good.

Romney needs to step in and diffuse this ASAP, or risk alienating Paul supporters all over the country.
