Cutting taxes for manufacturers will not win over the (union) workers of Michigan. Their reaction will be something like this: “See, another republican giving tax breaks to the big corporations.” Auto workers do not care about the corporations for which they work and from whom they receive a paycheck. They see the auto companies as adversaries rather than employers providing a means of financial sustenance.
It is the most bizarre relationship I’ve seen. They don’t want them to fail because they need the employment but they also don’t want them to get a break unless they (the unions) share in the break. Trying to have a rational conversation with an auto worker makes my head hurt.
Hopefully his message will hit home with the rest of Michigan.

You could punch the auto worker in the temple and make his head hurt

How disastrous was Santorums endorsement of Spector?
- http://profiles.google.com/ajtelles Art Telles
Who knew – How disastrous…
The issue was who would be the Chairman of the committee, not simply control of the Senate.
For his own political reasons, Specter honored his agreement with Santorum.
Toomey would NOT have been the Chairman of the committee.
Santorum WON the SCOTUS issue.
So, who knew what Specter would do years… YEARS… later?
Toomey was eventually elected to the Senate
Specter faded away into irrelevanceSantorum had the courage of his conviction.
Santorum WON the SCOTUS issue
America WON the SCOTUS issueOur Republic needs MORE men and women like Santorum with his courage of conviction about what is BEST for the Republic… not simply the next election.

- JoeMontana16
I would have to disagree. Santorums convictions are social issues. He does stick up for those which absolutely admirable. As far as his record goes he isn’t squeaky clean at all. He is a compassionate conservative. The same as Bush. Not the definition of what true conservatism is all about. There is no way in hell he would win the general. McCain lite. 08 was disastrous. The ad was good though.
- http://www.facebook.com/people/Steven-Valdez/1806887704 Steven Valdez
It needs to be noted here that two years after Specter almost lost his Senate seat for his support of Thomas in 1992, Mitt Romney was running against Ted Kennedy for a seat in the Senate by promising he would never go back to those dastardly Reagan-Bush years. Years in which conservatives with names like Rehnquist and Scalia were appointed to the Court. One can only wonder whether, had there been a Senator Mitt Romney elected on that pledge rebuking Reagan and Bush, Senator Romney would even have voted for Roberts and Alito since his rebuke of Reagan and Bush is an implicit rebuke of Reagan and Bush appointees Rehnquist, Scalia, and Thomas.
- http://profiles.google.com/ajtelles Art Telles
History…
… what would we do without history?
Excellent “how disastrous” it might have been point, Steven.
Who knows how Romney would have voted in SCOTUS nominations?
So, who knows what will happen…
- Will we vote for Willard “Reagan who?” Romney… and get a Laurence Tribe, for example?
- Will we vote for Rick “eye-on-the-SCOTUS-ball” Santorum… and get another Clarence Thomas, for example?
- Will we vote for Newt Gingrich… and get…?
- Will we vote for Ron Paul… and get?Art

Romney Attacks Santorum for Supporting Roberts and Alito

Not a fan of playing tax favorites with a certain segment of the economy (manufacturing). How is this different than Obama with all his “Green Energy” set asides and tax breaks. Memo to Republicans and all politicians: set the same reasonable tax rate for all types of businesses so that all segments of the economy can grow and thrive.
- http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000679899592 John Bohler
Obama picked and choose companies, Santorum’s plan picked a sector that will bring back most of the jobs overseas back into this country. Remember how most everything we buy is made in China nowadays? Remember how most of our military hardware is now being made in Russia? Manufacturing is not just an economic concern, its a National Security concern.
- http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HU45BLBCROTOIVK4Q56XO2N5VU MSGT
It’s gonna work too because if he gets it passed thousands of businesses are gonna find a way to fit into the legal definition of a manufacturer. Take down the unions and tax imports if you want manufacturing to return but you may start a trade war
- http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000679899592 John Bohler
i say bring it on. It’ll get America off it’s rear end and start trying to actually compete.

guess why Made in America takes it to Zero! its a counterweight for the Labor cost the manufactures have to pay! and its a double whammy, it brings back all the jobs from over sea and it will stop us from fueling Chinese economic growth, the weaker China is the better. Plus his Energy plan is nothing to sneeze at too:
Remove bans on drilling—both onshore and offshore. This would immediately increase supply, create jobs, and bring revenues to the federal and state governments.
Continue promoting private sector drilling techniques for natural gas. More than half of U.S. households use natural gas for heat, and a quarter of the nation’s electricity is made from it.
Eliminate all energy subsidies and tax credits. This will prevent the federal government from picking winners and losers in our effort to unleash all of America’s domestic energy sources.
Immediately approve the construction of the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline. Construction of this pipeline would deliver an additional 700,000 to 830,000 barrels of oil per day to the U.S. and would create 20,000 jobs.
Repeal bureaucratic regulations such as EPA’s greenhouse gas regulations, Utility MACT, Boiler MACT, Cement MACT, the reclassification of coal ash, and any regulation of farm dust.
Restructure the priorities of the Department of Energy (DOE). The DOE spends an exorbitant amount of money on technologies to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and alternative-energy vehicles. All of these energy sources and technologies are currently available, but they are not yet commercially viable because of burdensome regulations or because they are still prohibitively expensive. It is not the government’s role to force these technologies into the market place.good right?
- http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HU45BLBCROTOIVK4Q56XO2N5VU MSGT
My original point is that if you zero the taxes for manufacturers, the next day you’re gonna have thousands of companies fitting themselves into the legal definition of a manufacturer with no change in output and many companies paying no taxes

I don’t have my crystal ball handy to even see what Santorum intends to define as a manufacturer in his proposal but it’s the simple law of unintended consequences.

Obamacare is NOT a strawman.

Cutting 5 trillion from federal spending? That the establishment republicans in congress will fight against that all the way down the line.

That’s why we need to elect Tea Party conservatives in both the House and Senate and FOR SURE GET RID OF JOHN BOEHNER as speaker!

We sent the TEA party in 2010 and they did nothing.
- Sober_Thinking
They need reinforcements. They did dramatically slow Maobama down btw.

They slowed him down but he continues to walk all over the Constitution. He’s doing anything he wants and they are just sitting there.
- Sober_Thinking
Man, I feel your frustration. I want more from them too but again, I think they are outnumbered… they are fighting the demoncrats AND the GOP establishment who I honestly believe, hates them. If you ever hear interviews with any of these Tea Party freshmen, they all express the same exasperation… they all want to do more but right now, it’s simply not possible because of who remains in power (especially with Maobama, Reid, Pelosi, little Dick Durbin, Schumer, etc.).
- Sober_Thinking
Spot on! I vote for Allen West as Speaker if he’s not the VP.
- NCHokie02
dont’ forget McConnell
- JoeMontana16
He didn’t vote for the bailout because he got flattened in his bid for reelection and wasn’t there to do it. He would’ve though. He would use his normal excuse…”I’m a representative of my state so I had to do it”. At the same time bashing Romney for the same thing. Romney would be far better at correcting the auto industry.
- Sober_Thinking
Lame. Woulda, coulda, shoulda.
- Nukeman60
This is the style of ads we need to see in Michigan and down the road — take it your opponent on the issues (not smear) and show what you will do rather than what slime you can throw at the next guy. It’s the best way to beat a smear campaign.
This will bring out the voters and is very positive. I hope Santorum continues this and Newt also picks up on it.
- Sober_Thinking
Agreed!
- Linky1
The debates are too scripted toward the slimestream media’s agenda while ads like this get out the message very effectively. You can slant questions, issues and responses to make any candidate look bad.
The time for in-house sniping is gone (leave that to Mittens and Paul) and the time to take on the Obama machine starts now. Good, positive ad from Santorum.
- Trust1TG
The DISASTROUS EFFECTS OF ROMNEY’S ENDORSEMENT OF SCOTT BROWN was brought to our attention by a commenter at Legal Insurrection this morning:
holmes tuttle:
So if it’s ok to go after Santorum for endorsing Specter, is it ok to go after Romney for endorsing Scott Brown?
Romney was his chief supporter and was actually on stage for Brown’s victory speech where Brown gave him credit for his win.
in the summer of 2010 Brown the 60th vote to break the filibuster of Dodd-Frank. He was the decisive vote.
So, Romney is responsible for Dodd-Frank. Thanks.
Brown also voted to break filibusters on DADT and the START treaty. Again, by his own logic, Romney is responsible for both of those as well.
Hopefully one of the GOP candidates if not some in the conservative media start tying Brown to Romney and holding him responsible for some of Brown’s votes and the policies they’ve resulted in.
- Nukeman60
Agreed. At least use it as a comeback when Romney attempts the drive-by of the Specter backing.
- http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HU45BLBCROTOIVK4Q56XO2N5VU MSGT
They have all endorsed people that they shouldn’t {if judged solely on who is most conservative}. The problem with Santorum is he defended it instead of saying in hind sight it was a mistake. Santorum has to set the agenda if he wants to get his message out. Cain had the same problem, they will chase any rabbit put in front of them.
- http://www.facebook.com/people/Steven-Valdez/1806887704 Steven Valdez
It wasn’t a mistake, it was the right decision at the time, can’t blame him 6 years later.
- http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HU45BLBCROTOIVK4Q56XO2N5VU MSGT
They could all justify the people they endorsed. They all chose the least conservative at least once
- http://www.facebook.com/people/Steven-Valdez/1806887704 Steven Valdez
isn’t it funny, not newt, but a moderate is attacking a conservative for this. A moderate that gave the blue-print to Obamacare. Newt supporters shouldn’t jump on this bandwagon, you’re backing the dare i say the least conservative of all the candidates, mitt romney.

I don’t think that will work because didn’t the tea party actually backed Scott Brown as well.
- http://black-avenger-1.livejournal.com/profile VirusX
Yep. I don’t like the guy, and knew he would do little that was positive, but he was better than Martha Coakley. I’m Tea Party, and I stand by that decision. Regrets are for the Air Force.

What do Union memebers want? Someone saying they like cars & that’s it?
- mder4thegov
Well, last night I saw Ron Paul officially “sell out”, with his despicable lovefest with Romney. (He literally sat on his hands–instead of challenging the guy who laid the foundation for Obamacare.)
I wonder how much it cost Rove and the other corrupt, establishment RINO’s–to get ole Ronnie to ditch his “principles”, and join the unelectable Mitt?
All you Paul supporters should be real proud. - http://onthemark1.blogspot.com/ On The Mark
I’m all for cutting taxes, but targeted tax cuts for manufacturers is just another way for the gubmint to pick winners and losers.
- BMinPA
Love to see how he defines “manufacturing”. Do you have to wear hard hats to qualify?
- http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HU45BLBCROTOIVK4Q56XO2N5VU MSGT
As soon as he does, I’m gonna try to ‘manufacture’ something
- http://www.facebook.com/people/Barb-Bricker/100002009313880 Barb Bricker
Good. It’s about time we got back to making stuff here. I hope you are successful to the point you make yourself rich and create many jobs while you’re at it.
- http://www.facebook.com/people/Barb-Bricker/100002009313880 Barb Bricker
I think manufacturing means actually making something. Those are the kinds of jobs that can be done in China. I’m not for picking winners and losers and that’s not what this is. All manufacturing will benefit, not just those making solar panels for example.
- http://black-avenger-1.livejournal.com/profile VirusX
I disagree. Picking winners and losers is by doing this:
http://hotair.com/archives/2008/02/12/obama-wants-to-define-patriot-corporations/
…and creating tax rebates and subsidies.
The tax cuts are to give Big Business and Small Business incentive to move forward and do what they do best. Tax rebates are rewards for what is generally politically expedient behavior. I’m not ABOUT to sit back and actually complain about someone with a plan to cut taxes on business, considering I work for one of the business types he is targeting, in that state, and that when they have a decreased tax burden, that allow them to do things like create jobs. Even if I didn’t work for this company, its still a better idea than Romney’s 1 percenter BS.
- http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HU45BLBCROTOIVK4Q56XO2N5VU MSGT
You don’t see zero taxes for some as an unfair playing field?
- http://black-avenger-1.livejournal.com/profile VirusX
What I see as an “unfair playing field” is when the government prevents people from even getting a chance to play the game, in the first place, because the teams can’t afford to bring them on board. Again, I’ll leave criticizing a plan to spur business to get into action to you. Maybe he’d do the same for other businesses. Instead of complaining, why not ask him?
- http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HU45BLBCROTOIVK4Q56XO2N5VU MSGT
Quite defensive. I asked a simple question if you don’t want to answer it, then don’t. Yes or no is all it takes and I don’t ask Santorum because he isn’t posting here.
- http://black-avenger-1.livejournal.com/profile VirusX
I did answer it. You just didn’t get the answer you wanted. I quite plainly told you what I considered an “unfair playing field”, as opposed to concurring with you and your assessment that providing tax cuts to jump-start impaired manufacturing is somehow ‘unfair’. I also told you that instead of complaining here, or to me, maybe you should take your question to Rick Santorum, himself, or at least someone knowledgeable in his campaign staff. Seeing as to how you’ve failed to do that, I’ll help you:
888.321.6675
There. Now you have yet another of your complaints removed. Not contacting Santorum, or his campaign, just because “he isn’t posting here” is even less a valid excuse for failure to take initiative, and calling others “defensive”, because they refuse to do your work for you. Call, write or email Rick Santorum’s campaign office, and see if his plan includes other businesses, other than manufacturing. See how simple that is?
- http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HU45BLBCROTOIVK4Q56XO2N5VU MSGT
First, you didn’t answer it. You gave some democrat spin as to what you think but not an answer to my question. Second, I’m not complaining. Third, being a rude smart@#s does not make up for a lack of intelligence.
- keyesforpres
Well, it’s not like a manufacturer is competing against a different industry. Now, if the gov’t picked one steel manufacturer over another steel manufacturer than you would have a valid point.
- http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HU45BLBCROTOIVK4Q56XO2N5VU MSGT
I give up
- Trust1TG
Santorum wasn’t whining – he was laughing at Romney’s insecurity and the fakeness of all the cheers and whistles…even when Romney didn’t say much at all.
Arranging to have the debate in a big Mormon town for Romney’s sake was creepy of the RNC and media.
- tooold2befooled
Are we back to the Mormon thing again. Get over it. I’m a Baptist and I voting for the Mormon. Santorum just can’t stand being booed at. I am afraid he is in for more. BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
