Robert Gates: Secretary of DeFinance

Monsieur Robert Gates realizes that being Defense Secretary means he recommends a price tag first, evaluates how to spend it second, and then waits to see if problems arise for America’s interests last.

ABILENE, Kansas (Reuters) – Defense Secretary Robert Gates told the U.S. military on Saturday it must rein in spending that he called out of sync with today’s tough economic times, and said budget woes could be a factor in deciding whether to use force against Iran and others.

“If there’s a real threat out there, the president[sic] and Congress will spend whatever it takes to protect the nation.” (Link)

Yes, The President and Congress will be out on the front lines ready to fight; if there’s a real threat. And it’s not like the Taliban is able to have regular contact with a guy dropping off car bombs in NYC. (check the update) So, we certainly don’t need to put anymore pressure on them.

I’m also with him on the need to have money available to deal with Iran, because, “It depends on developments over the next year or two,” some trouble may or may not come of Iran within the next year or two.

(There’s more below after the jump)

Some of Gates real brilliance is shown in, “Gates held out the possibility of axing headquarters, merging whole agencies and culling the officer corps,” because as this administration has shown us, our intelligence networks are doing a bang up job. (The System Worked) (and Thwarted Car Bomb) and we certainly have no need for leadership. (Link)

We also see that Obama was right, if we talk to Ahmadinajad, as Charlie Rose did (Video and Transcript),we would come to an understanding.

MAHMOUD AHMADINEJAD: “It seems to me that the problem comes from inside America. If you can resolve the problem coming from inside America, the problem between Iran and the United States will be resolved quickly.”

Robert Gates has taken this advice to heart. We must identify the problem from inside the US and cut it’s funding. He’s already hit the F-22 where it hurts and now he’s working on eliminating a Marine landing-craft. I mean why do the Marines have the need for an Amphibious Tank? (Link) Silly Marines.

So I thank Gates, with all my taxes, for saving money and cutting spending were I would least like it spent. The Military after all only saves American Civilians from death, American Soil from invaders, and American trade from piracy. Some may say that the Military also protects American Allies, but ya know, (Link) (Link) (Link).

Again, thank you Robert Gates for saving money for what’s important: ObamaCare.

Hm…I just don't believe him. I actually support the idea of not going into what would basically be a 3rd “police game” without having the bucks (which we don't have) to do it. I just don't believe him when he says these things though. When BUSH (who went AWOL in the Air Force) has to step in to tell this guy he made a wrong decision…then you KNOW this guy is not the right guy for the job. I'm still shocked that Obama and the Commie Tunes KEPT him.

Yes I agree Gates is incompetent, But as to the AWOL comment I don't think you understand the military. First , Bush was a member of the Texas Air Guard, not the USAF and from what I saw he missed a couple of weekend duties which is an Unauthorized Absence or UA Not AWOL there is a big difference as well as a big difference in how the full time military and the guard and reserves handle things. Secondly what Bush did or didn't do is irrelevant, when people throw the Bush did this ,Bush did that rant out y'all sound like a bunch of second graders on the playground. Just because someone else did or didn't do something does not excuse the other's shortcomings or incompetence. As to why they retained Gates? To keep those who are susceptible to “Bush Bashing” distracted from what the “Ones” minions are actually doing. Bush has been out of office for over a year it's well past time to move on. BTW I did not vote for Bush in either election, just so you know.
