Robertson: Crack in Washington Monument could be a sign from God

I gotta say this particular statement by Pat Robertson doesn’t strike me as all that controversial. No doubt Robertson has gone out on his share of prophetic limbs before – and looked foolish as a result – but he’s hanging on to the tree trunk here, if only barely. He’s just wondering out loud whether the crack in the Washington Monument might be some kind of sign from God, without claiming to know for sure if in fact that’s what it is. Aren’t Christians supposed to be curious about the divine meaning behind life’s circumstances? I think so. The question Robertson poses to his audience – essentially, “is God trying to tell us something, and if so what?” – is a perfectly reasonable one that is asked in many contexts all the time in Christian churches.

Now having said that, I’m a Christian but I’m not going to knock myself out trying to ascertain if the crack in the Washington Monument is symbolic of something deeper. Could be; it’s an interesting theory. But I also know that we don’t always know the exact reason for why certain things happen in life. We just don’t see or know everything that God does.

Via Real Clear Politics, which by the way slightly misstates in its headline what Robertson actually said, in my opinion.
