Sarah Palin: Cannibals in GOP Establishment Employ Tactics of the Left

Read to the end on this one. This is Sarah Palin doing what she does best, ripping into the establishment:

We have witnessed something very disturbing this week. The Republican establishment which fought Ronald Reagan in the 1970s and which continues to fight the grassroots Tea Party movement today has adopted the tactics of the left in using the media and the politics of personal destruction to attack an opponent.

We will look back on this week and realize that something changed. I have given numerous interviews wherein I espoused the benefits of thorough vetting during aggressive contested primary elections, but this week’s tactics aren’t what I meant. Those who claim allegiance to Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment should stop and think about where we are today. Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater, the fathers of the modern conservative movement, would be ashamed of us in this primary. Let me make clear that I have no problem with the routine rough and tumble of a heated campaign. As I said at the first Tea Party convention two years ago, I am in favor of contested primaries and healthy, pointed debate. They help focus candidates and the electorate. I have fought in tough and heated contested primaries myself. But what we have seen in Florida this week is beyond the pale. It was unprecedented in GOP primaries. I’ve seen it before – heck, I lived it before – but not in a GOP primary race.

I am sadly too familiar with these tactics because they were used against the GOP ticket in 2008. The left seeks to single someone out and destroy his or her record and reputation and family using the media as a channel to dump handpicked and half-baked campaign opposition research on the public. The difference in 2008 was that I was largely unknown to the American public, so they had no way of differentiating between the lies and the truth. All of it came at them at once as “facts” about me. But Newt Gingrich is known to us – both the good and the bad.

We know that Newt fought in the trenches during the Reagan Revolution. As Rush Limbaugh pointed out, Newt was among a handful of Republican Congressman who would regularly take to the House floor to defend Reagan at a time when conservatives didn’t have Fox News or talk radio or conservative blogs to give any balance to the liberal mainstream media. Newt actually came at Reagan’s administration “from the right” to remind Americans that freer markets and tougher national defense would win our future. But this week a few handpicked and selectively edited comments which Newt made during his 40-year career were used to claim that Newt was somehow anti-Reagan, and isn’t conservative enough to go against the accepted moderate in the primary race. (I know, it makes no sense, and the GOP establishment hopes you won’t stop and think about this nonsense. Mark Levin and others have shown the ridiculousness of this.) To add insult to injury, this “anti-Reagan” claim was made by a candidate who admitted to not even supporting or voting for Reagan. He actually was against the Reagan movement, donated to liberal candidates, and said he didn’t want to go back to the Reagan days. You can’t change history. We know that Newt Gingrich brought the Reagan Revolution into the 1990s. We know it because none other than Nancy Reagan herself announced this when she presented Newt with an award, telling us, “The dramatic movement of 1995 is an outgrowth of a much earlier crusade that goes back half a century.  Barry Goldwater handed the torch to Ronnie, and in turn Ronnie turned that torch over to Newt and the Republican members of Congress to keep that dream alive.” As Rush and others pointed out, if Nancy Reagan had ever thought that Newt was in any way an opponent of her beloved husband, she would never have even appeared on a stage with him, let alone presented him with an award and said such kind things about him. Nor would Reagan’s son, Michael Reagan, have chosen to endorse Newt in this primary race. There are no two greater keepers of the Reagan legacy than Nancy and Michael Reagan. What we saw with this ridiculous opposition dump on Newt was nothing short of Stanlin-esque re-writing of history. It was Alinsky tactics at their worst.

But this whole thing isn’t really about Newt Gingrich vs. Mitt Romney. It is about the GOP establishment vs. the Tea Party grassroots and independent Americans who are sick of the politics of personal destruction used now by both parties’ operatives with a complicit media egging it on. In fact, the establishment has been just as dismissive of Ron Paul and Rick Santorum. Newt is an imperfect vessel for Tea Party support, but in South Carolina the Tea Party chose to get behind him instead of the old guard’s choice. In response, the GOP establishment voices denounced South Carolinian voters with the same vitriol we usually see from the left when they spew hatred at everyday Americans “bitterly clinging” to their faith and their Second Amendment rights. The Tea Party was once again told to sit down and shut up and listen to the “wisdom” of their betters. We were reminded of the litany of Tea Party endorsed candidates in 2010 that didn’t win. Well, here’s a little newsflash to the establishment: without the Tea Party there would have been no historic 2010 victory at all.

I spoke up before the South Carolina primary to urge voters there to keep this primary going because I have great concern about the GOP establishment trying to anoint a candidate without the blessing of the grassroots and all the needed energy and resources we as commonsense constitutional conservatives could bring to the general election in order to defeat President Obama. Now, I respect Governor Romney and his success. But there are serious concerns about his record and whether as a politician he consistently applied conservative principles and how this impacts the agenda moving forward. The questions need answers now. That is why this primary should not be rushed to an end. We need to vet this. Pundits in the Beltway are gleefully proclaiming that this primary race is over after Florida, despite 46 states still not having chimed in. Well, perhaps it’s possible that it will come to a speedy end in just four days; but with these questions left unanswered, it will not have come to a satisfactory conclusion. Without this necessary vetting process, the unanswered question of Governor Romney’s conservative bona fides and the unanswered and false attacks on Newt Gingrich will hang in the air to demoralize many in the electorate. The Tea Party grassroots will certainly feel disenfranchised and disenchanted with the perceived orchestrated outcome from self-proclaimed movers and shakers trying to sew this all up. And, trust me, during the general election, Governor Romney’s statements and record in the private sector will be relentlessly parsed over by the opposition in excruciating detail to frighten off swing voters. This is why we need a fair primary that is not prematurely cut short by the GOP establishment using Alinsky tactics to kneecap Governor Romney’s chief rival.

As I said in my speech in Iowa last September, the challenge of this election is not simply to replace President Obama. The real challenge is who and what we will replace him with. It’s not enough to just change up the uniform. If we don’t change the team and the game plan, we won’t save our country. We truly need sudden and relentless reform in Washington to defend our republic, though it’s becoming clearer that the old guard wants anything but that. That is why we should all be concerned by the tactics employed by the establishment this week. We will not save our country by becoming like the left. And I question whether the GOP establishment would ever employ the same harsh tactics they used on Newt against Obama. I didn’t see it in 2008. Many of these same characters sat on their thumbs in ‘08 and let Obama escape unvetted. Oddly, they’re now using every available microscope and endoscope – along with rewriting history – in attempts to character assassinate anyone challenging their chosen one in their own party’s primary. So, one must ask, who are they really running against?

This year is different, this year the GOP elites are pulling out all the stops and trying every dirty trick in the book to bring down Newt Gingrich! Romney has really gone too far,and I refuse to be cowed by the GOP Elites anymore and will NEVER,EVER vote for that sleazebag nor any other of their favorites. This battle between we Conservatives and The GOP elites has been going on for over fifty years and I believe they have just crossed the line and it’s time we kicked them out,it’s time we took away their POWER!

and they’re winning. They have stealth people. Newt was surging in Iowa and Beck went super Alinsky. He lost all credibility by SC and Newt won. Drudge came out of the closet for Fl and Newt is down again {Newt sure isn’t helping with the dumb money attacks on Mittens}. How many people on ‘our side’ have been fooling us?

Newt sure isn’t helping with the dumb money attacks on Mittens

Newt’s political astute political acument is unmatched within the GOP and those “attacks” would shield the GOP down the ticket from the type of campaign Obama is going to run. I will not vote for managing the decline and perhaps the Paulies are correct and might as well let it come down sooner rather than later so the rebuilding can begin. I will not subMitt because it only emboldens more of the same ie lame! More future baseline cuts trying to be passed off as actual spending cuts etc…

True, true and true some more! I cried when Carter was elected and cheered when Reagan won. I was watching and I was “politically aware”. I’m 62, I know about the real Newt. I watched Newt, heard his determinism, he was insisting we go back to our Constitutional foundations when NO ONE else was saying it.

It was way back then I started longing to have Newt Gingrich as President. To say Newt hasn’t always been a true Conservative who had a big hand in righting a lot of the damage Carter and his cronies had done, or that he was against Reagan is absolutely lying!

I was a huge Glenn Beck fan but, when he started spouting all those lies about Newt… that I knew were all lies because I lived the truth… I turned Beck off. Until Beck started doing that, I had no idea he was a shill for the Republican machine. (And I was such a Beckie I’d been a paying Insider Extreme subscriber for a couple of years. I even bought a Roku so I could watch his channel on TV.)

Eventually, all of you will be on board.

    • Anonymous

I support this and what a shock to the establishment to have lost the election if Mittens is the nominee. They are counting on the Tea Party vote, even though they hate us.

So, I’m torn between standing by my principles and not voting for Mittens if he becomes the GOP nominee, which will help Maobama get elected and ensure Maobamacare is the standing law… or forgetting my principles and scruples to once again hold my nose and vote for the lesser evil (Mittens). Maobama will destroy this nation in his next 4 years… that’s a given… but Mittens will only weaken it further in the next 4 years and maybe it won’t be too late for a 2016 Tea Party president to start to turn things around.

So… it’s a slippery slope. If I don’t vote for the GOP nominee (if it’s Mittens), then I’ll definitely double my efforts to store food, water, ammunition, and other needed supplies in preparation for the end of the world… which will surely come when Maobama is re-elected. Most importantly, I’ll continue to try and be right with God and spread His light before the end.

You guys are either severely brainwashed or have some personal issue with Mitt, probably because he is a yankee. The so-called base hasn’t voted for a yankee since 1948.

Yankees have nothing to do with our issues with mittens as race does with our issues of dear leader. Mittens is a liar, cheat and dirty fighter- I know plenty of yankees who are nothing like that.

          • Anonymous

Everybody fights hard in a campaign, unless they don’t want to win. You guys used to say Mitt was too weak to fight, now he fights to rough. Newt routinely calls Romney a liar, which is unprecedented in a nomination fight. You can battle hard without having to resort to calling the opponent a liar.

      • Anonymous

I’ve thought about this as well, however, there is also a big Congressional election taking place. The shock of the Presidential loss I think will change the leadership in Congress. Someone’s head has to roll after a think like that.

I think if Romney gets in, we have 8 years of him and nothing really gets done-then what?

I think the mere nomination of Romney is going to seal the GOP’s fate and spark a formation of a 3rd party for 2016. It will be a lot harder to do with Romney in, and a lot easier under an obama 2nd term.

All the people who complain about this have to realize that if Congress did their damn job obama couldn’t get away with 1/2 of what he’s doing, they are just letting him do it.

        • Anonymous

Nothing personal, but I don’t often agree with you.

In this case, you are spot on here. You are absolutely right. :)

Your threats aren’t going to scare anyone into voting for Newt. We’ve heard those threats for months now. Put Obama back in if you want, that’s everyone’s call to make.

      • Anonymous

Pal, I’m not threatening anyone. Since you are a boob, and are 1/4 as educated as I am in political affairs, I will tell you again, the base isn’t coming for Romney.

Then we have a mutual assured destruction in Obama’s favor. Stop bluffing already.

          • http://no-apologies-round2.blogspot.com/ AmericanborninCanada

See his post above- it makes sense. If mittens gets in, it will be that much harder to put in a real conservative tea party candidate in 2016, if we even make it that long. Mittens will do nothing to stanch the bleeding dear leader has started.

She’s right. And the cannibalism started before the anti-Newt avalanche yesterday. Twisting words to make it appear Newt is anti-Reagan is as wrong as twisting words to make someone appear they want to end social security, force vaccines on kids and make them retarded, support illegal immigration because the fed doesn’t do its job, and are labeled anti-capitalistic because he wants to evaluate the opposition’s private sector experience. The establishment has done well clearing the GOP field, and a majority of conservative media & the GOP happily, knowingly and unknowingly, cooperated.

I love this woman! “the challenge of this election is not simply to replace President Obama. The real challenge is who and what we will replace him with..” Is what I’ve been praying people will do since the debates began before Iowa.

It is imperative that dear leader is fired come the November elections, but we have got to allow all of the candidates left a chance to be vetted, and a chance to show the voters what they can and can’t offer as a presidential candidate. Come on folks, we’ve lost some good people out of the race already because of disgusting and unproven accusations and because too many people thought, “oh, I love this person, but they’ll never win, so I guess I’ve got to plug my nose and vote for…”

If people would please just vote their consciences, with their hearts instead of being told, so in so is the only one who will win!!! Maybe your guy or girl wouldn’t have won, but neither would the stinking establishment because they’d be forced to accept that we the voters are sick and tired and will NOT vote their guy!!!

  • cabensg

Very well though out and correct in most aspects but I do not agree this isn’t about Newt Gingrich. It is all about Newt, he’s the one there down in the trenches fighting against the machine Palin describes. Rush, Levin and Palin can sit in their safe Ivory Towers of conservatism and offer down their analysis but in the end it’s Gingrich who is out on the campaign trail.

In Iowa Gingrich presented his 21st Century Contract with America in front of an Iowa audience. It was in every respect what the Tea Party envisioned to turn our country back to the America we Love. Gingrich’s words. His first ad on the air was positive upbeat and filled with optimism. His numbers rose dramatically.

Romney PAC then filled the TV screen with negative ads which have now proved to be false. Gingrich soldiered on and was very successful in the debates and lost N. Hampshire but won S. Carolina. He deployed very negative ads against Romney about Bain Capital.
The Ivory tower conservatives safely behind their microphones criticized this as being anti-capitalism.

Now when it may be to little to late it’s all poor Newt we know you’ve been abused and misused we’re behind you 25%.

This is a fight for the soul of our country. Gingrich understands that. He’s willing to take the fight to anyone who stands in his way. There is no one else. Does anyone understand this. Romney won’t do it. Santorum can’t do it. Gingrich is the only man standing who will do it. Argument time is over. It’s Romney or Gingrich.

    • K-Bob

I agree, the stakes are too high to be playing games. Rush, Hannity, Palin, all afraid to endorse Newt, the one candidate that can and will take the fight to Obama, they are playing a safe hand and keeping everyone in suspense. This is our country, it is not simply politics as usual any more.

      • PFFV

I know why they aren’t endorsing anyone yet, it’s early and they don’t want to take anything away from a possible Samtorum rise, even though it isn’t very likely. It makes perfect sense to me really. If Santorum gets out they will endorse Newt, I would bet everything I have on it.

  • Anonymous

I just watched the story on the nightly news (NBC-Brian Williams) and they at least brought the fact to the attention of the casual observer of politics that there is an all-out attack going on from within the GOP to take down Newt. In the end, they showed a clip of Newt saying that the exact same thing happened to Reagan and that he fully expected it and he’s in until the end. Overall, I felt like the story hurt Romney and his pack because it painted the “establishment” in a very negative light and emphasized the fact that Newt is NOT establishment. Newt was even able to say that the reason they fear him is because they know he’s capable of changing things, and apparently change is not what the establishment GOP want.

Can you see Mitch Daniels going up against the cult of Obama? I just don’t see him as a strong conservative. And if Bill Kristol is pushing this it makes me think he might be just a step above Romney.

I know Daniels has done some good stuff in Indiana but he is still pretty moderate. I don’t know how he feels about the Constitution.

I do not know much about Mr. Daniels. I have seen him mentioned from time to time and understand there was a move to draft him a while back. The few times I saw speeches I was not inspired by him.

The unqualified idea I have regarding the man is that the machine would like to present him. It is probably to his credit that he has not given in to the pressure.

The GOP establishment is running against us! Rush talked about it earlier and I believe he is dead on; the GOP is more worried about keeping the money. They want the Senate. The want to keep the ol’ same, ol’ same going on and have no intention to change Washington. And they have found the perfect candidate that would allow them just that: Mitt Romney!

RUSH ARCHIVE: I think they are more concerned, our consultants, with holding the House and winning the Senate. I think they believe, deep down in the depths of their soul, that Obama can’t be beat. I think that they look at Mitt Romney as the single only hope we have of taking Senate, even if he loses the presidential race. They’re looking at Romney not because he can beat Obama but because he can limit the damage in the Senate and House races, which is what they really want. I do believe that in some cases — and I’m not prepared to name names right now. I do believe in some cases on our side they would rather Obama win than a full-throated conservative beat him, because they don’t control the conservatives. They don’t control the Tea Party. They don’t control where that victorious conservative cad would coming from.

I disagreed with Rush for the first time in my life today when he said he didn’t think Drudge was involved in a coordinated take down of Newt. Drudge had five headlines at the top of his site reporting negative stories on Newt. They were false and/or comments taken out of context for the most part. Why would Drudge post a litany of various stories and sources that weren’t true if he wasn’t out to take down Newt? As I said for the first time Rush and I disagree but I still love him and respect him very highly. This all being said, I was a daily visitor to Drudge, not anymore.

I think he was being sarcastic when he said:

Some of their flaws are much larger than some of the others that that other candidates have. But a factual recitation of some of these people’s records — I’m just trying to be funny here (chuckles), but — it’s almost impossible to avoid looking like you’re smearing them. You just have to ignore ‘em to avoid that charge.

Agreed. I was very disappointed in Rush for that. I think he sees the crap storm and the enormous political power at play and he’s a little hesitate to jump in. Drudge is a dirtbag like Beck

        • PFFV

Beck is not a dirtbag nor is Rush. I do disagree with Beck’s stance on Newt. Beck has done a ton for conservatism and exposing the truth about many things. He tied Obama to all the radicals and extremists, Bill Ayers, Acorn, SEIU, Soros, Van Jones, and much, much more. Rush is a genius and a great conservative patriot that mirrors my beliefs almost to perfection. So I can’t accept your over the top name calling of these two great men, your wrong.

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HU45BLBCROTOIVK4Q56XO2N5VU MSGT

Sorry dude, Beck is just as bad. He’s lying to the people that trust him to get Mitt the nomination. He’s destroying the election process to get his man in. How can you see it with Drudge and not with Beck? The dude is a complete shitbag.

Thank you Governor Palin for calling out the establishment!

Excellent piece from Sarah Palin! She did a bull’s-eye, as always!!

  • Anonymous

Darn good, but I’m afraid it’s wasted words. The establishment repukes (this is a reference to repub “leadership” only; not to rank and file republicans) are psychopaths, and I hope they read that. The repukes are asking us to choose in the general between a zealous, hate-filled marxist and his ideal target. Fools.

I’m about to quit wasting my time on politics. When the time comes, I’ll vote in the primary, if there is a primary in my state – funny, I’ve been saying for maybe a year that obama may not allow an election in 2012; here I am wondering if the repukes will allow me a vote in the primary – as I was saying, if there is a primary in my state, I’ll vote, and if romney wins the nomination, I’ll write in Sarah Palin’s name, because nothing will matter at that point anyway, so I’ll do the last great act of defiance.

In the meantime I’ll be using up a lot of B27s. Got to keep in shape.

    • Anonymous

I have a sincere question for you (and everyone else for that matter): IF Romney enters the convention with the highest delegate count, but NOT the 1,144 needed to secure the nomination, and Ron Paul has the second highest count, who would you choose?

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HU45BLBCROTOIVK4Q56XO2N5VU MSGT

The way I feel right now, Ron Paul

        • Anonymous

I could be wrong, but I would think that the majority of conservatives would do the same, if only to spite the GOP establishment with their forcing of Romney down their throats.

          • KenInMontana

The problem with your question is that at that point the decision will have passed on to the delegations and the delegates for better or worse. IOW at that point it is out of our hands.

            • Anonymous

That is true, Ken. I am not sure, but I think in the event that no one is nominated on the first ballot at the convention, the delegates are “released” and a second ballot is taken. If Romney is only a couple hundred short, his delegates would only have to convince enough Paul and/or Gingrich delegates to come over to the Romney camp to put him over the top. Most Paul delegates would not switch IMO, until their terms are met. Could be very interesting and historic.

      • Anonymous

That’s a tough one, but I’d have to say Ron Paul. For one thing, we know what Ron Paul believes. Knowing that his beliefs make him unpopular with many and will likely cost him the nomination, he continues to hold to his beliefs and unhesitatingly repeats them publicly. I respect integrity, and I like many (definitely not all) Libertarian policies. I am greatly concerned that Ron Paul doesn’t seem to be willing to admit that Islam is at war with us, and whatever provocations we might be alleged to have given them, the real cause of that war is Islam’s doctrine that they are supposed to annihilate all other governments and religions and establish Islam supreme over the entire world. This is not a minor fault in Ron Paul.

Romney is a flip-flopper. Yes, he appears to know how to make money, but that’s not the same as having ideals, and it’s along way from all there is to being president. Would he fix America’s economy, or would he bow to political pressure? Is he tough enough and smart enough to deal with the border problem and the illegal alien problem? To deal with the Muslim problem, both the civilization war they are waging against us from within and the terrorist problems internal and external? I don’t know.

If it were one of those two or no one, I’d probably do the right thing and write in Sarah Palin’s name. If Ron Paul viewed Islam as the extreme danger it is, and us as having the right to defend ourselves against Islam, I’d vote for Paul.

      • http://www.facebook.com/david.masiwchuk David Scott Masiwchuk

Wont have to worry about it. Paul wont get the second most delegates.

Looks like Jim Robinson (site owner at Free Republic) agrees with you.

I know there’s not enough folks saying the same thing to make a third party out of the ashes of the 2012 elections, but there’s enough that they should be taken seriously. The backlash against the “Republicans” from Conservatives is a growing thing.

“Well, here’s a little newsflash to the establishment: without the Tea Party there would have been no historic 2010 victory at all.”

I remember the Scott Brown victory in Massachusetts. He never acknowledged that it was the work of the Tea Party that gave him the edge. Instead, he brought out Mitt Romney and thanked him profusely for his money. That has stuck in my craw ever since, especially with the way Brown has done everything he can to distance himself from his fellow GOP senators, especially the conservative ones. If you want an idea of what Romney would be like, look at Scott Brown. Birds of a feather…

Sarah has let the world know where she stands in this primary now. She is correct, and her words will send a few heads reeling – Coulter, Rove, Christie, and the rest of the phonies shoving Romney down our throats. I have forever lost respect for people like that, and Marco Rubio is currently on thin ice with me as well. The conservatives in this country have had it. Absolutely had it. A revolution is coming.

Yes Sarah, “pointed debates” is the correct posture and mode. The Republican party does not need to reenact the Night of The Long Knives in order to ultimately suture-up the survivor…our Republican candidate! We don’t want to present such a disabled and brutalized candidate to the frothing gallery of rotting, repugnant, rapacious LEFTISTS……. just so they can terminate our candidate without mercy or dignity but instead with condescension that is in fact, full contempt. We don’t need to watch as the enemy STROLLS arrogantly to their victory parties, expelling the same fetid platitudes…………………..right back into the already DEFILED White House.

Sarah Palin is the true leader of the Conservative/Tea Party Movement

I never question whether she really is a Conservative and a Tea Party person, whether she has any possible skeletons that could hurt her, whether she has the guts to take on anyone who is against us, whether she would be a better leader than all the other candidates put together and whether she actually believes everything she says.

She may not have a brain loaded with thousands of facts like Newt, she may not be as cocktail circuit polished as Mitt and she may not be tough on social issues as Santorum but I do know she has been consistent in living Conservative and Tea Party principles before there was a Tea Party.

Watch Undefeated if you doubt that.

She is right… the Republican Establishment has to be overthrown or it will be more of the same no matter who wins.

I really like the idea of the 3 of them being a team of some sort. (I’m leaving Mitt the pig out, of course.)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1497076194 Travis Pierson

This whole primary is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I don’t trust any of them to govern as a conservative since they have all supported big-government solutions and institutions in the past. The leadership will have to come from Congress, which means choosing real conservatives in our local primaries and working to take a significant (if not filibuster-proof) majority the Senate and increase the Republican majority in the House. We need to have a Tea Party speaker and a Tea Party majority leader who simply won’t send any nonsensical bills to the Oval Office. That will be the only way to eliminate the entrenched, idiotic GOP establishment and return the party to its conservative roots.

    • PFFV

It is time to create “The Tea Party” after the 2012 election cycle. Enough with these pompous elites telling us who can win and who can’t. If we have a Tea Party Candidate we know they can win and why they will win, because they will be fighting for OUR beliefs, our morals, our values. The Republican Party is not what they say they are any longer. It is time for a real change, a change that returns the power back to “We the People”.

      • Anonymous

The upper echelon of the GOP are being true to their roots- progressive/socialists/one world order followers. A certain portion of the GOP morphed to conservatist, but, when they start to grow in greater numbers- aka; tea partiers, grassroots, it has to be slapped down by the elites. IMHO the numbers are getting greater than the elites thought……..time for them use the progressive socialist playbook. The same book the left plays with. A new party or greater numbers of non intimidated conservatives?

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1497076194 Travis Pierson

I disagree that a third party is the way to go. It will only serve to split votes on the right and ensure Dem dominance for as long as the third party exists. What we need to do is dump a whole bunch of squishy Republican incumbents and yank the Republican party to the right beginning now and continuing through each of the next 6 or 8 elections. Then the party can legislate from a point of conservative strength and show people that the only effective government is small government. We really only need to convince 4-5% of the mushy middle in order to put conservatives in the majority for the long term.

Here in Utah, we have an excellent chance to retire Hatch and (blue dog) Matheson and replace them with solid conservatives (I’m pulling for Liljenquist and Love, respectively) and add another with our newly acquired congressional seat (voting for Stewart, here). Add them to Lee, Chaffetz and Bishop, and I’ll be totally happy with my state’s delegation.

I trust Newt because as a historian he understands legacy. I trust he will stick to what he says no matter what. I also believe he has as bad taste in his mouth about the way the GOP capitulates to Democrats just like they did to him on the ethics charges.

I’m sure both of his ex-wives trusted him, too. And he has a history of reaching across the aisle and compromising conservative principles in order to get a bill passed. All the candidates are deeply flawed and I like all of them less and less as each day passes.

  • s.hayward2

Apparently it is not too late for someone else to enter the race.I think if romney wins convincingly in Florida and the gop establishment and the media say it is all over,if newt is finished and sinking I think Sarah should jump in before it is too late . This would cause an earthquake in the media, and would take the narrative off that the race is over,as all the networks have wall to wall coverage on that .I love newt ,Iam liking him more, I love his ideas on the lunar colony actually, but I fear he will go the way of cain. Anyone that threatens Romneys anointment.

The establishment is just getting rid of any candidate that is a real threat to romney.I think the grassroots/the tea party should support Sarah getting in the race, as the message has to be sent that we are not having another repeat of 2008.Obama cannot get a second term because he is a threat to the union and I would say world stability.Romney as I have said before is tailor made for Obama, he is the living breathing embodiment of the ’1 percent’ that fits the whole class warfare narrative that Obama is encouraging , and Santorum had him on the ropes over romney care.He is wooden and robotic and Obama will leave him in a stuttering sweating mess when he is through with him. He must not be the nominee. His stuttering under pressure has not gone unnoticed in liberal circles, howard stern made several comments, on hearing his voice, I can just imagine what the likes of SNL will do. They are quiet for now,for good reason.

I just listened to laura ingraham, raise concerns over Obama’s campaign ,he is making big promises to the young (who really turned out for him last time) ,she is worried,Iam worried as well,Obama has a huge warchest,he has hollywood he has almost all of the msm.

To me, this is make or break time, I think sarah should be thinking of pressing the red button very soon as the concequences of a second Obama term do not bear thinking about.Go nuclear sarah and throw everything including the kitchen sink at them. Remember what they (the gop establishment did, they stiffed you, like they stiffed cain and are trying to do to newt) don’t let them win this. This isn’t just a battle for country,it is a battle for the party. The true rhinos are being exposed, Beck, coulter se cupp. Shame on them.

Tell it like it is Sarah!! I love, love, love this woman!!

  • Anonymous

Remember folks: They CANNOT take this away from us if we don’t let them. If you have never worked for a candidate, now it the time. If you have never made a campaign contribution, now is the time. It doesn’t matter if it’s only a few dollars. Every little bit helps. Newt and Rick need your help.

The GOP establishment is behind Romney. If the RNC calls you on the phone, tell them in no uncertain terms that you will NOT be donating to the Republican Party, your donations will go directly to the **candidate of your choice**.

There is only one way to end this: Cut them off and STARVE the freakin’ beast!!

No money. No votes. We do not have to stand for this.

    • Anonymous

Funny, I got a call a couple of months ago from the RNC wanting a contribution, and I basically told him the exact same thing. Shocked…. I tell you, Shocked! Then the guy said “I don’t understand why you don’t want to help the party…..blah, blah” and I told him I didn’t care if he understood or not and to take my name off of their list.

      • Anonymous

:) I am glad to hear others are telling them the same.

My local Republican party group will not even invite me or accept when I volunteer. They are all progressives. The progressives organize, donate and volunteer – in both parties.

    • Anonymous

I will agree, with fervor. Small donations help and more importantly they let candidates know that VOTES are behind the donation.

The robo calling is easy and fun. We go door to door to with the local campaign organizers and it is a great time.

Imagine if we each can convince just 5 or 10 more!

  • Anonymous

I have a question and hopefully someone here knows the answer. I heard there were hundreds of thousands of absentee ballots already received in FL. Were candidates that already dropped out (Bachmann, Pawlenty, Cain) names on the early ballots?

If so, what happens to those votes regarding the delegates?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1497076194 Travis Pierson

Not sure, but I assume all the candidates would have been on the ballots when they were sent out. The ex-candidates can usually pledge any delegates they win to the candidate of their choice.

    • Anonymous

The votes “should” be counted and carried over to the convention.

  • Anonymous

    Sarah Palin….. One of us.

  • Anonymous

Question for those who agree… given the establishment has selected Romney as their candidate, should Santorum drop and endorse Newt to ensure Romney does not win? Or, is that a form of a cannibalism?

    • Anonymous

If he doesn’t do well in FL, I doubt he’ll have the money to stay in it to fight the good fight with ads in the major media markets. At that point, he’ll have no choice but to make that decision, but he shouldn’t do it for Newt he should do it for his own reasons. But I can’t see him endorsing anyone other than Newt IMO.

      • Anonymous

He might do like Bachmann and endorse no one. Will of course say “I support whoever the nominee is.”

I guess I could ask a fallout question… If Newt loses FL, does the 2 out of 4 state wins mean Romney takes all? Should Newt & Santorum continue?

      • Anonymous

No, Santorum has already conceded Florida. At the same time his biggest financial backer has made it clear that Santorum is not going to be dropping out after Florida.

Why did the majority of conservative evangelicals decide to endorse Santorum and not Gingrich?

Because they did not think Gingrich can defeat Romney for the nomination.

By endorsing Santorum, they were and are saying to Romney, whom they believe will be the nominee, if you want our support in the general, you need to nominate Santorum as your VP.

This places Romney in a bit of bind. Why? Presuming that Romney is the nominee, I believe an understanding was reached with Rubio’s prime backer, Jeb Bush.

The understanding? Romney will select Rubio as his VP nominee. Jeb Bush will endorse Romney, while providing his full support in Florida and elsewhere.

So why did Jeb Bush declare that he would be “neutral” during the Florida primary?

He knew what the GOP establishment were planning viz Gingrich and he did not want to be associated with those tactics.

At the same time, his recent words show were his support truly lies.

But now Governor Palin has put her full weight and political credibility on the side of common sense constitutional conservatives. She has called out the GOP establishment (which includes Jeb Bush) saying proceed further on the present path at your own peril.

While Gingrich supporters will spin her FB note as an endorsement of Gingrich, it is not. The curtain has been drawn. The fight has moved beyond Gingrich versus Romney and the Florida primary.

With this FB note, Sarah Palin now steps onto the stage as a private citizen. The battle is now between common sense constitutional conservatives and the GOP establishment. The issues and principles are crystal clear.

Who will be the ultimate victor? I stand with Sarah Palin, but as the lady said in Pella, Iowa at the unveiling of The Undefeated, she is not going down without a fight.

    • Anonymous

IMHO, Santorum is running to be Romney’s VP.

      • Anonymous

I said it several weeks ago about Sarah Palin. Watch for Feb. 1st. If Romney takes Florida in a big way, if Newt is reduced, and if Rick doesn’t get a big boost from Florida, then Sarah may well decide to have a go at it.

I believe she is waiting for Rick to bow out, as he needs a bigger boost in Florida to be able to hang in there till money arrives. I believe she likes what Rick stands for and that’s why she hasn’t fully endorsed Newt yet.

If Newt wins Florida, it will take Mitt down to the level he should have been in the beginning and people will finally start to see what the Rino establishment is doing (something we here at TRS already know). Then I think Sarah will endorse Newt.

I don’t believe Sarah really wanted to run. She said she might ‘if the right people didn’t show up’. There were several ‘right people’ so far, with some of them dropping and some lagging behind. With the path cleared for Romney (read, the Rino establishment), I think she will take a deep breath, grab her hunting rifle, and jump in with both feet.

As I’ve said before, I’d love to see her go mano-a-mooso against the 0. Romney’s first, tho.

I’m with Mark Levin – Rick Santorum is my choice for POTUS…

    However…

I WILL vote for Mitt Romney if he is the Republican nominee.
I WILL vote for Ron Paul if he is the Republican nominee.
I WILL vote for Rick Santorum if he is the Republican nominee.

    Why?

‘Cause to NOT vote for Romney IS a vote FOR Pres. uh uh uh BHObama.
‘Cause to NOT vote for Paul IS a vote FOR Pres. uh uh uh BHObama.
‘Cause to NOT vote for Santorum IS a vote FOR Pres. uh uh uh BHObama.

    Think about it…
    …seriously, intellectually, NOT emotionally.

If ALL Independents, ALL Republicans, ALL Moderates and ALL Ron Paul Third Partiers did NOT vote in the general election at ALL… zip… zero… nada…, that would be, by default ALL votes FOR Pres. uh uh uh BHObama would cancel out ALL non-votes.

THAT would be irrational and national suicide.

If it would be irrational for ALL voters to NOT vote for Romney or Paul or Santorum, then it would BE irrational for ANY 1 voter to NOT vote for Romney or Paul or Santorum.

Common sense conservatives will NOT vote for Pres. uh uh uh BHObama by default.

Those who will NOT vote in the general election for ANY Republican who wins the primary wreath…

… well, they are NOT common sense conservatives such as Mark Levin and Sarah Palin and Rick Santorum.

I hear your arguement and understand it. But, No.

I will NOT vote for Romney.

I will work my heart out for my candidates and do all I can to get conservatives elected to the Senate, the House, the governorships and at the state and local level. A conservative Congress can hamstring Obama.

But I will leave my ballot blank on the Presidential race. They will not force this choice on me. Voting for the “lesser of two evils” is still voting for evil. Enough is enough.

I hear you, Sarah. We saw what they did to you. If you had the experience and bonafides like Newt, who knows? I wore your bumper sticker, and would again. Until then, every chance I get, I tell those that are concerned not to listen to the msm. DO NOT let them choose our candidate. When you feel them stuffing someone down your throat, it’s because they don’t belong there. Listen to your throat. Puke them up!

Yeah, And so one more time Sara Palin accurately brings to light real problems in America. It IS exactly as Ronald Reagan said decades ago:

“Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem.”

When will the masses realize that Sarah Palin is NOT what they were brainwashed into believing she is. I have read her own words too many times to be fooled by the likes of the MSM or the Democrats or the GOP.

How many times does she have to be right ?

  • Anonymous

It is time for Sarah to endorse Newt and move this thing along before it is too little too late. Someone needs to talk to Santorum and have him put away his ego and endorse Newt and know his future is in the near future. Santorum I think would be a good choice for VP, I think Rubio is over-rated. Santorum would be a good president in training under Newt.

I am so disgusted with the actions of the establishment I could puke. Money talks and people walk is the old saying. Romney and friends are trying to buy this election.

I have also noticed in the last two debates, the new debate coach for Romney (old Bachman coach) uses the same tactics. Keep talking until you are forced to stop. Do not stop until you are forced to stop. The person who talks the most will always look like the winner. The other candidates need to hold the networks to the time limits.
Do not allow Romney to filibusterer the debate.

Newt dropped his guard and got in a pissing contest, instead of attacking the media dump, and Romney’s weakness: Romney-care. I would pound this issue every time I could and compare him to Obama. They are the same.

If Romney wins, he will never beat Obama. The media will turn on him in the general election and he will be toast.

Obama’s team is a lot more cynical than Romney.

If Sarah really wants to test her metal, here in Florida is the place to test it. It is now or never as I see it. Newt needs to win Florida in order to move the nation forward.

Thank you Governor Palin!!! I think it is about time to tell the GOP that the conservatives and the Tea Party are not going to sit down and shut up. We don’t want Willard the progressive, liberal
    (Willard words) republican!
Governor Palin I really wish that you would jump in this race, the country needs you now more than ever.

I had a call this morning from the NRSC, he wanted my urgent donation. I told him no and that they had to educate the current senators to be more like Jim DeMint and less like the RINOs.
I wish Sarah had said this two months ago, when we had more of a choice. Rick Santorum doesn’t have a chance and I know Romney, despite all his dirty politics, may win the nomination but he’s really not that different than Obama. He will lose to Obama, for some reason he still has personal positive ratings. I don’t see it but he does.
    Romeny will not repeal Obamacare.
I have Hannity and Luntz is on, I’m going to change the channel as soon as they start the coronation of Romney.
I know a woman, not very well, we have met at a restaurant and talked several times. I saw her today as I was leaving. She asked me to sit down and chat and asked me if I had been there the whole time. I did not see her when I walked in. I told her I had to go back to work. She said she hopes we see each other before she moves. She recently moved from one area of Boston to another. She told me today she’s moving to TX with her son and daughter. They started a business there and it’s doing great. I told her that I really wished that Rick Perry had been the GOP nominee, she told me he is a great man. Then she told me that she loves Obama. I expected a person from TX to be a republican, but at least she said Governor Perry is a great man.
I told her Rick P had back surgery and that’s why he did so poorly in the debates, he wasn’t ready to stand for two hours.

@Amber you can shove it!! Just cause I think Palin’s all about herself, she should’ve ran. Put up or shut up!

@mjs, I think you’re a Obama drone. The establishment is, Rush, Levin and Newt.. Rush and Levin gave us BHO. Newt is Mr Washington, he took money from Freddie and Fannie, he sat on the couch with Nazi Pelosi. He ripped Paul Ryan’s economic plan, he attacked Romney from the left! He’s lied about Romney over and over, that Rubio called Newt out!

Hopefully under a Romney administration, seeing you have so much free time MJS. Hopefully he’ll create a job for you.. I’m tired of my tax paying money supporting you. A thank you would be nice!!

Take some time to research all of the forces that were aligned to literally destroy Sarah Palin and her family, including the very same forces that are behind the seditious Romney.

Read some unvarnished history about other true conservatives like Goldwater and Reagan who were the target of this same coalition of the Republican party, globalists, media, and Democratic party.

If you support Romney, you support the Republican arm of the cabal that is destroying your freedom, your Constitution, your rights and your fortune. You either know this and should not waste your time here, or you do not know it, in which case you could learn a lot from the people here.

Everything Sarah Palin writes is pure genius. And this is one of her best! She is absolutely correct on every point. However, the GOP establishment will never allow themselves to be lectured to by Palin or any other Tea Party conservative.

The Tea Party movement has tried to change the GOP from within and this is what we get. It may be that the time has come to form a new conservative party with the likes of Sarah Palin leading the way.

Once again, Governor Palin proves why she is my hero! She scares the bejeezus out of both the liberals and the GOP establishment. However the GOP has yet to catch on to why she is so powerful! “We the people” are done with the establishment cronies that put us here…on both sides of the isle! When both sides are pushing Romney…everyone should wonder why! Newt is far from perfect, but he is a bulldog that will not be told what to say or how to say it! He’s a wildcard to the GOP and they hate him for it…that is a huge indicator of why we need to make him the nominee. My real favorite is Santorum, however, he does not take the media to task as well and often comes off as whiney.

Perhaps without quite the passion of Sarah Palin, Thomas Sowell weighs in too.

“While Gingrich backed away from his demagoguery about Bain Capital, Romney is continuing to press ahead with his charges that Gingrich was a lobbyist for Freddie Mac. As someone who has been a consultant, but never a lobbyist, I know the difference.

As a consultant, I have offered advice to people in government and in private organizations, both businesses and non-profit organizations. But I have never gone to a government official to urge that official to make a decision favorable to those who were paying me, or to those for whom I did free consulting.

It takes two to tango, and lobbying requires not only a lobbyist but also someone who is being lobbied. With more than 500 people in Congress alone who could have been lobbied, and additional officials in the bureaucracies, if Romney cannot find even a single person to say that Gingrich lobbied him or her, then it is long past time for him to either put up or shut up.

Many able and decent people are understandably reluctant to subject themselves and their families to a mud-slinging contest or to media “gotcha” questions. The creeping acceptance of such practices is hardly a justification, but is itself part of the degeneration of our times.”

This is an excellent piece by her. This is why in all likelihood, there will be a 3rd or 4th party in 2016. I don’t feel Ron Paul will get the GOP nomination – specifically because of what Sarah points out here. It’s not that he’s not an honorable man with some excellent ideas… it’s because he’s too contrary to what the re-pubic-ans are and their corrupt ways. So, I can see a Liberatarian Party with more backing in 2016. And for the rest of us, a Conservative Party made up of Tea Party patriots (those that aren’t Libertarians), conservatives, Christians, independents, etc. THAT is the party I will support.

I said it months ago… the war is between the establishment and the Tea Party. The establishment are the old re-pubic-ans who are just as corrupt as their demon-crat counterparts… they want to continue to remain in power and fleece America. The Tea Party, as you all know, is for Americans-first (not party) and they want a Constitutional Republic, smaller government, individual liberty, freedom, etc. These two are apples and oranges when compared together.

I’ll stop my rant with this… If by some curse Romney wins the GOP nomination and by some miracle wins the election against Maobama, then in 2016, we’ll have to oust his stanky butt and put a real conservative in the big chair. In the meantime, we have to stack the deck and put solid conservatives in the Senate, House, Judiciary and state legislatures. Only then can we mitigate the damage that the president, whoever it is, does to this great nation.

Oh Baby! Just watch the election results now! Even more fun, watch the pundits try to justify those results by pointing to everything but Governor Palin. I can’t wait! What a couragous woman….and alley cat smart too!

    1. Newt is an opportunist. brilliant but still an opportunist. manages to turn a negative–his adultery with at least 2 women –into a positive (“i’m changed, older wiser grandfather and changed by my Christian faith”) and a positive that wins him the voting bloc of the Christian conservatives. also said in 92 that the era of Reagan is over (doesn’t sound like a Reagan torch bearer to me)

    2. taking money from Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae (whichever one) for “consulting”–vague at best

    3. global warming ad with Pelosi

    4. attacking the free market (one of the fundamental tenets of conservatism) with bashing Romney as a “vulture capitalist” (Perry is also guilty of this sin)

    5. supported an individual mandate

    6. career politician, the ultimate insider

    7. Palin who claims to be conservative is either supporting Newt for some undisclosed reason or is unaware of these facts about Newt

    8. Palin doesn’t do the Republicans or conservatives any favors with her support. since 2008, she’s shown her true colors (i voted for McCain/Palin). she’s not to be taken seriously. rather than address her weaknesses as a politician in order to be viewed as a legitimate leader of the conservative movement, she’s chosen to do reality shows and bullet-point superficial talks that spew out the same platitudes every time to the point that she and her bullet-point talks have become meaningless. she has proven the lliberals’ criticism that she’s a joke

    9. overweight, old white guy that doesn’t do well in national polls. at least Romney looks the part. most people are unfortunately that superficial and obama won in part because of that superficiality so it has to be factored in. we can all agree that anyone is better than obama so if that means Romney than that’s what it means

  • Anonymous

Sarah, dear, you are the establishment. You and Fox News (hannity, greta, et al) have been trying for months to get Newt elected.

    • Anonymous

and if you didn’t see it this week, George Soros is also trying to get new elected. he said this week that there’s not much difference between Romney and obama. obviously trying to steer people to Gingrich and i don’t think it’s because he thinks Gingrich can win

  • Anonymous

Something happened all right, this week. Romney crushed Newt in the 2 huge debates before Florida. Romney was behind before last Monday’s debate. I ask Newt supporters to stop lying to themselves. Romney is winning because of the debates, and because of Newt’s attacks on capitalism, not because of any ads run.

    • Anonymous

Newt’s popularity is based on the same reason that Trump surged in the polls last Spring. Trump was willing to fight obama on the birth certificate and wouldn’t take no for an answer. Newt is fighting the media every chance he gets. the voters crave for a candidate with a spine because they’re angry and they want their candidate to show their anger. Newt’s doing that and doing it well

Newt is also calling himself a Reagan Conservative every chance he gets. he might have been back in the 80s because it was politically advantageous for him to do that. whatever is politically advantageous for Newt is what Newt does. but Newt recognizes an opportunity to run to the right and that’s what he’s doing–wasn’t thinking about his alleged conservatism when he was doing the ad with pelosi or calling the Ryan plan “right wing social engineering”

Newt is smart but he won’t win and he’s not the best candidate. while he’s figured out the form for gaining popularity, his substance is lacking. remember he can describe it any way he wants, but his policy for illegal immigrants is effectively amnesty–a reward for violating the law

    • Anonymous

Romney was more forceful and strong in the 1st FLA debate than in previous debates. he needs to show strength, because the voters crave a spine to take on obama and the media, to express the voters’ anger

and on personal stuff, Romney hands-down over Newt. 1 marriage v. 3. and the entire party turned against Newt when he was speaker

  • http://twitter.com/PuritanD71 PuritanD71

Sarah states it well. Though I am no supporter of Newt, I agree with her that GOP establishment continues to chew-up its own. Mitt Romney is not a conservative. The last debate proved it.

He states he always voted Republican, oh except that time Tsongas ran. He claimed not to know of an ad he ran with his own voice on it. He says he will repeal Obamacare, but one of his advisers said no. The kicker is Romneycare.

I am having a difficult time with Mitt’s supporters who do not understand that Romneycare is a top-down government funded entity that is a big FAILURE and is equivalent to Obamacare. Santorum spelled it out perfectly in the debate. Romneycare is a losing proposition and Romney needs to bow out of this primary.

    • Anonymous

Romneycare is irrelevant. he passed it. he can’t deny it. but now every time he opens his mouth, he says he will repeal obamacare. thats the point, not what he did but what he will do. and if he doesn’t repeal it as promised, he’ll be one and done like obama

      • http://twitter.com/PuritanD71 PuritanD71

It is not irrelevant when he refuses to see its flaws. He is unapologetic about it and does not see the problem with it. His own advisers are already saying that there will be no repeal just tweaks to Obamacare.

His continue support for Romneycare demonstrates his lack of leadership; his inability to look at it square in the eye and admit to the mistake. The evidence for it not working is hitting him where it hurts and he shrugs it off, like its no big deal. That in and of itself demonstrates a characteristic that is unpresidential.

As many are beginning to realize and I hope, JRRR2010, that you do to that if Romney is the nominee Obamacare is off the table, no hope for down ticket voting for control of Senate, etc.

        • Anonymous

i’d rather have Santorum but i’m ok with Romney/Santorum

one Romney adviser said it wouldn’t be repealed in its entirety and Romney’s campaign said that piecemeal repeal is not what they plan to do. all we can do is hold him to his promise

i’m not a Romney superfan, don’t get me wrong. but Gingrich is fooling everyone, because he’s so smart. he’s not conservative. Gingrich can’t win. he looks and sounds like an angry old white guy but he hasn’t said much about substance (other than effectively granting amnesty to illegals that have been here “a long time” in his words). obama will make him look like the old angry career politician, with the media’s help.

no one seems to have better private business experience than Romney. Romney doesn’t have the personal problems that Gingrich has–marital or the entire party turning against him like they did when he was speaker

Soros said the other day that Romney and obama are not much different. so he’s trying to steer people to Gingrich and it’s not because he thinks Gingrich can win

let’s face it, Gingrich’s and Trump’s popularity grew because they were combative–both with obama and Gingrich also fighting the press. if Romney starts to fight, which he did in the 1st debate in FLA, that’s the best we can hope for. if Romney is promising repeal of obamacare, which is the most important objective of this election, then he has to get it repealed or he’s a failure and he won’t get re-elected. just like Bush 41 and his promise of “read my lips no new taxes”

    what’s wrong with Gingrich

Gingrich’s precipitous fall from power was the result of arrogance, self-satisfaction and a fatal tendency to flit from issue to issue — and even from core conviction to core conviction — in the seeming belief that if he spoke well enough (and used as many adverbs as possible), no one would notice that he was doing something he had equally eloquently (and equally adverbially) opposed before.
