Sharpton: ‘Some of the right-wing’ are ok with the wiping out of black people

Radio Equalizer found this clip originally, but I felt it needed more context so I decided to dig it up myself to ensure Sharpton wasn’t talking about the anti-gay preacher who talked about putting gays behind electrified fences and so forth. Alas he wasn’t. But what I did find is a caller who set up this whole conversation with his own idiocy which Sharpton and Tatum, his radio guest, expound upon.

The clips starts with a less-than-brilliant caller who was angry that Hannity was talking about the slaughter of 6 million Jews by Hitler, when, as the caller stated “who are they? You massacred millions of indians and millions of slaves, so who are you to talk about Hitler?”

The caller then says that it sickens him to hear ‘these people‘ talk about Obama ‘like he’s nobody‘. Wow, so Hannity can’t criticize Obama because Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren, who were ostensibly Democrats, forcibly removed the Cherokee from the East to the West in the 1830s? I didn’t know Hannity was a Democrat and, well, was that old. But wait, it only gets better.

The caller then reminds Sharpton of the shooting of Gabby Giffords and conflates it with the right-wing by saying “you gotta be careful Mr. Sharpton going towards November. You gotta get security around you…because these people are not playing.” I guess the caller doesn’t remember that Giffords was shot by someone who didn’t even follow politics.

The call ends with the caller aghast that a black man on Hannity’s show would refer to himself as the “black Tea Party”, to which Sharpton just says “that’s amazing” and ends the call. But this is where Sharpton goes off the deep end.

Sharpton clarified the caller’s statement for him by saying he wasn’t calling Hannity ‘Hitler’, but that he believed the caller meant that you can’t just pick one massacre of people and excuse another, that you have to condemn them all since, as Sharpton so profoundly put it, “mass murder is wrong.” So Hannity was excusing mass murder? I think he’ll be shocked to hear that.

But then Sharpton and his radio guest allege that some on the right are ok with the wiping out of black people:

SHARPTON: It seems like they act as though some wiping out of people, some of the right-wing, is alright. It’s not alright to do to any innocent people. Now if you are at war, that’s one thing. But to wipe out innocent people just for who they are like what was done in Hitler’s Germany or was done to Native Americans is not justifiable.

TATUM: You know, but Rev I think in what is similar to Hitler’s Germany is that Hitler did not believe those people to be human.

SHARPTON: Right.

TATUM: They believed them to be sub-human. And I think that’s the same thing we’re thinking that people are linking here, is that why do they even care about them because they’re not human. And that’s how we’re being looked at and that’s what the scariest part of this whole thing is.

SHARPTON: That’s exactly right.
