Rather than a one-size-fits-all national solution, which may or may not work, it's better for communities to try different approaches to the problem to see what works best.
One issue not discussed is profiling. Most of the school attacks (Columbine, Virginia Tech, Red Lake High, Chardon High, Newtown) were perpetrated by white males in their teens or twenties.
Good idea. Profiling works. EL AL airlines does profiling and it WORKS! We've been wanting profiling at our own airports for a long time. Profiling would probably prevent many a Depends clad grannies and disabled children in wheelchairs from being molested by the TSA.

I wonder if fewer people would have died in Phoenix at the Gabby Giffords shooting if they had armed guards or even better security protecting the Congresswoman? Somebody could have at least stopped the shooter right there before he killed and wounded all those people. Worth thinking about.

I agree that he needs to be applauded for getting something done. That being said, I'm not for armed guards or cops in the schools. What I am for is the common everyday citizen of the United States of America, more specifically, teachers, principals and custodians, taking advantage of their constitutional right to bear arms to protect the themselves and the innocent children.

Actually, some union-protected teachers are not smart enough or morally-sound enough to be role models or educators of our children. They dispense political leftist propaganda, political correctness, socially, mentally and physically destructive ideologies instead of math, science, geography and history.

I feel you pain. I have a guy accusing me of being anti-free speech and kowtowing to Islam because I disagreed with the tactics that a certain Pastor committed a few years ago. Your opinion on teachers and weapons does not make you anti-2nd Amendment.

You are sooo incorrect. I have repeatedly said that school districts should employ retired law enforcement and veterans. They are liberal thug mouthpieces spewing hate and anger in classrooms, teaching falsehoods like the Boston Tea Party was an act of terrorism and that Allah is the Lord!

Close all public schools, saved hundreds of billions in taxpayer money and hold parents accountable to teach and protect their own children. Far from anti 2nd Amendment. Teachers have no business having loaded guns in classrooms. What's the old saying, those that can do, those that can't teach. One only needs to look at the crap "graduating" from public schools to see what failure teachers are in this country. They are focused on their high salaries, cushy fringe bennies, the significant number of days off they have in a very short school year.
Public schools should be closed. Parents should be held accountable to educate their own children at their own cost. You are free to tote your gun around your own kids any time you'd like but you are not free to do so around anyone elses.
Why don't you send all teachers to Afghanistan for a few years. They fail in the classroom teaching and you want them to carry guns. School districts should contract with retired law enforcement and veterans and hold teachers to proper standards of teaching.
Somewhat OT, but on the day after the Newtown shootings, the police said in a news conference that local police waited for state police backup before doing an active shooter search. I find this interesting, because this would be against protocol in Canada. In Canada the first officers, even if alone, are to immediately enter and head for the sound of gun fire or disturbance with the intent of killing or disabling the shooter. I thought that after Columbine, this was the protocol in the USA as well?
Strange thing though, I have yet to find one news source in the USA raising this question.

Number one objective for U.S. cops is to go home @ the end of their shift, PERIOD. The SCotUS has ruled that they have no positive obligation to protect anyone. Cops aren't protectors, they're investigators for the prosecution.

The old school term, "posse", made me laugh. I went to college in Phoenix back in the mid-90's, and it was totally commonplace to see an older gentleman at the grocery store, with a pair of pearl handled revolvers hanging off his belt.
