On Fareed Zakaria GPS, Spitzer says that Republicans don’t have the foggiest idea how to grow the economy and that they are only talking about tax cuts coupled with no spending cuts. What he’s referring to is the 100 billion that Republicans pledged to cut in their first year but now are saying they may only be able to cut 60 billion since the fiscal year is half over. We’ve already been through this with explanations from both Boehner and Ryan but it’s clear that no matter what the party leaders say, Spitzer only cares about the narrative that he wants to push, which is that Republicans have already failed before they have even begun. It’s a dishonest narrative especially considering that the tax cut deal reached in December has settled that issue for now. But Spitzer makes it clear that he’s already made up his mind about Republicans:
They’re reading the Constitution – that’s a charming little exercise. They don’t have the foggiest idea how to genuinely address the needs of growth, capital formation and resuscitating the core American economy. They’re talking about tax cuts and not even cutting spending. It’s internally incoherent and it’s just horrendous policy.
Since we’ve seen the great policies of both the last Congress and of the Obama Administration and that they’ve yielded nearly 10 percent unemployment perpetually, I wonder when he’ll begin to denounce them as failures? When we he call Obama out for his spending binge that has done nothing but further bankrupt this country? I’ll be sure and hold my breath until he does.
And his tripe little statement about the reading of the Constitution being a ‘charming little exercise’ shows just how unwilling he is to accept the fact that they are reading it with the purpose of reminding those elected in Congress of what it actually says since for the last two years Congress has been so hell bent on minimizing and disregarding it. But he would rather use this reading as a ‘distraction’ to further his own narrative that Republicans aren’t serious about fiscally reforming government.
