What more do you need to know about this president? He won’t even go on the record for an editorial interview with the Des Moines Register but he’s willing to talk to them off the record: (via NRO):

But despite at least 28 campaign stops and 11 days in our state, we never could convince his [Obama's] team to carve out a few moments for our editorial board –- in our office, on the trail or even in a barn somewhere in Iowa.

Which takes me back to Monday afternoon’s call from the White House, inviting us to chat with President Obama this morning.

It was a “personal call” to the Register’s publisher and editor, we were told. The specifics of the conversation could not be shared because it was off-the-record.

Of course, we immediately lobbied his campaign staff in Des Moines for a formal, on-the-record call. We were told it was not their decision; it came from the White House. We requested that the White House be asked to reverse course so whatever the president shared with us could be reviewed by voters and our readers.

No reason was given for the unusual condition of keeping it private.

That’s just amazing to me. What message does he think that’s going to send to undecideds?

Here’s Morning Joe responding to this as well as Obama’s ‘new’ plan for his 2nd term:

If this were Romney the media would find a way to make this the October surprise and run it from here to the election. Apart from Morning Joe hitting Obama over it this morning, I doubt we’ll hear much from the rest of the media.

I don't get why Obama would even do this. Why talk to the paper if you don't want it to be shared with the public? Is he trying to get the endorsement of the paper with something he believes will be unpopular with the public? I'll tell you but you can't tell the public because I will be torn to shreds over it? It's saying "you endorse me and the people will blindly take your endorsement and vote for me".

You are so transparent, Obama. You may think you're slick being secretive but we see right through you. Corruption at it's finest.

All I want to know is who authorized the memo denying the Ambassador security as that person is guilty of murder. The memo writer could not have taken it upon herself; essentially, you had someone begging for their life weeks in advance.

Obama probably did it because he doesn't want to answer any questions on Libya. We are sailing into the area now that whatever Obama says about Libya can be used against him in court and I just think he doesn't want to answer any questions at all. That's probably why he is not about to have a press conference on Libya. If he continues to lie to the press, then all his words will be held against him. Obama probably saw what happened to Rod Blagojevich for lieing and probably doesn't want to follow him to jail. Well, after all, Obama IS from Illinois, so what do you expect?

He doesn't want to be accountable. He wants to coast through the election, and then he won't have to be accountable to anyone.

An interview THAT CANNOT BE PUBLISHED - that idiocy could only came form FuBar Ack.

Bunch of lies to get reporters on his side???

Psychology of a pathological liar.

Mike Florey

Rich, I think it goes deeper than just a pathological need to lie. Not only does Barack Hussein Obama need to lie to others, at the same time he needs to denigrate others. He will do anything for self-aggrandizement.

Barack Hussein Obama is a sociopath. Nothing will change that. There is no way to treat it.

Sociopaths have no conscience. Deceit, lies, anything is fair game. Everything that goes wrong is someone else's fault. He feels he is above blame. He craves authority without the accompanying responsibility.

Barack Hussein Obama is like a Hollywood movie set: a painted facade with nothing behind it.

Rich Wojcik

Mike: good that you've mentioned "sociopath"......I tried, but couldn't recall that word when I was typing the above post (English is my 3, if not 4, language).

Also:

I've heard him saying that call for a muslim prayer is the sweetest sound on Earth.

Before election, he said "my muslim faith" twice in official TV interviews.

I know the inscription on his ring does not say God or Christ.

I've lived many years in a communist regime and I know first hand what kind of murderous plague it is....socialist/communist regimes murdered over 100 MILLION of their own citizens for disagreeing or "seemingly not liking it" ....I see it is becoming here a norm........MSM? like in Russia's "Pravda" - only gove lies ("versions"), etc.

Have a great day and keep your eyes on all that. Thank you. Rich.

RS, you did not mention whether the Register had endorsed anyone yet. If they endorse Obama after this Iowans should cancel their subscriptions.

Since nobody except the editors know what Bathhouse Barry told, them, and they can't tell, we're free to speculate.

So what if they were told to endorse Bathhouse Barry or else? "Else" might be having the IRS sent to check their accounts, or the DoJ going to investigate some spurious complaint? Or the Unions stopping their paper from being published?

You can take the Chicago politician out of Chicago, but you can't take Chicago politics out of the man ...

[With apologies to all Chicagoans - Bathhouse Barry isn't your fault.]

Good post, but all Chicagoans? Not sure you want to apologize to all of them.. :-) Especially the dupes, socialist manipulators and useful idiots that help create the Communist... sorry... I'll try that again... Community Disorganizer! Those I don't think we should forgive... More condemn! Please note I'm not criticizing your post at all, just adding my own 2 cents... As you know, I'm prone to doing! :-)

I love it when you add your 2 cents!

Ok, not all Chicagoans, but there are some fine people there, one of whom runs an excellent website, HillBuzz.com

He's very astute, got excellent connections in Chicago, some within the Black Community, and writes about indicators showing why Bathhouse Barry has essentially given up the election.

AS long as the administration could count on the Criminally Negligent Media to watch his back, he was OK with them. Now that, more and more, they are questioning his policies and actions he is becoming wary. His next step, as shown by this refusal to speak up and go on the record, might be the silencing of the press.

I would use most of the newspapers in this country to line a birdcage or for house training a dog. He probably doesn't want the conversation disclosed because he threatened to ban ink if they didn't endorse him.

I guess the publisher failed to advise the white house that they had named whoopi goldberg editor-in-chief.

Now that the paper has been given permission to run the interview, my question will be what will they include, what will they delete, and what will they edit. Since the editor felt the need to say, "the interview will help Obama with undecided voters", call me suspicious.

JohnBarry2012

When MSNBC morning Joe and Mark Halperin, editor and senior political analyst for TIME, give Obama a mild rebuke and a slap on the hand, "It's probably a little blip in the campaign" but the symbolism is BIG for a lot of people in the left wing media.

SaraPFan
SaraPFan

Why does Obama has so much control over these media types? He tells them to retract statements. They've admitted before they publish stories, they send drafts to the WH for approval. They have reporters hiding in closets at swanky fundraisers because the WH doesn't want big name donors exposed. Reporters aren't allowed to interview rally attendees. Now newspapers are having clandestine meetings with the WH without conversations being divulged to the very people who keep those newspapers in business? Why does the Des Moines Register participate if they know beforehand the President is repeatedly speaking off the record? The President must be giving them some exceptional favors during these meetings.

1tootall
1tootall

All reporters have to ask if their interview is on or off the record. That is standard operating procedure. The issue here is not the Register, but that our esteemed president will not go on the record. What a jerk.

SaraPFan
SaraPFan

The issue is the Register. They were told before the 30 minute call that the President will only to speak to them off the record. They continued to lobby for him to be on the record. He's made 28 campaign stops in that state. I went to the Des Moines Register's web page and read the entire story. The Register should have refused to participate with his disdain for transparency. He wants the paper's endorsement but the Register can't qualify to their readers why an endorsement is justified? This makes no sense to a logical person.

1tootall
1tootall

Should have, could have, would have. That's a different issue, while related. All public officials have the right to put things on or off the record. Discussing the ethics and morals of then what to do is not the point, here anyway. I agree with you on what the Register SHOULD have done. But I was not speaking to that. That Obama refused to put things on the record is absurd. He has won virtually every seat he has ever held but forcing a judge to open records on his opponent. Yet no one that I know in modern history has hidden as much about his life as he has. Shame on our media and shame on him.

iaintlyin

The real sick puppies are the undecideds. The battle lines are drawn by now, if you haven't made up your mind yet its because you're either waiting for your 0bama phone to be approved or because you're waiting for a DNC operative to knock on your door with a $20 bill for your vote. Think about it, how can one be undecided about the choice of Romney or o at this point, I believe anyone saying they're undecided at this point is undecided about voting for 0 or not voting at all. What more can you want to see or know about Romney?

The news media will try to blow it off and focus on the Gloria All-Red story. Do you really care if a newspaper endorses a candidate or not? It might effect my decision whether to buy the paper or not, but it certainly wouldn't change my vote.

NObama is just running scared though. I mean, come on, what's he going to say thats so secretive and off the record? The hundred grand in the brown envelope that he's going to push across the desk to get their endorsement? I can see why he'd not want that kind of Chicago politics being written about in the paper. But really come on? He's running scared... He should be! He's a Loser, and he's on the path out of Our House!

Oh, they most certainly will. They are extremely left-wing with only one right-wing editorial in the Sunday paper once or twice a month! We dropped the daily and only getting F-S-S papers at present and I'm ready to drop those.

Their 0 and Vilsack coverage is front page; their Romney and King coverage is buried inside or on the back page........don't even try to hide it.

I have no doubt that they will. And newspapers and news magazines wonder why their circulations are drying up and they are going bankrupt by the dozens. In the words of my local morning talk radio, "They're stuck on stupid!"
