This really is stunning, and simply more reason why Obamacare must be pulled out of ground with its roots:

On the Senate floor today, Ranking Member Sessions announced that a new Budget Committee analysis has found that the long-term, unfunded liabilities associated with President Obama’s health care law will reach $17 trillion. The Committee’s analysis is based on the Obama Administration’s own numbers as well as those from the Congressional Budget Office. It is a modest, conservative estimate and yet is still more than double that of Social Security.

it's all smoke and mirrors if the supreme court don't strike obama care down as unconstitutional, then obama will renig on it after 2012.

I look into this and found out, thank God, it's not true. In fact, the government's burden for healthcare costs will actually be HIGHER if Obamacare is reversed. Keep in mind that Sen. Sessions is a 21st century Republican, so you really can't take him at his word. For one thing, he wants to get re-elected and so get a GOP majority in the Senate so he can a few committee chairmanships (I don't blame him), You have to look up the accuracy of what he said, as I did.

I was also afraid that under the ACA I wouldn't be able to choose or keep my doctor. Again, I researched it and, thank God, I was wrong. Not only do I get to keep going to same doctors and dentists I went to before, I'll be able to pay for it since I will be able to buy my own health insurance with my own money at group rates similar to what I would get if was able to get insurance through an employer. Not only that, even though I had a slight acne, 23 years ago, when I was kid, if I ever get skin cancer, the insurance company can't deny me coverage using acne as a preexisting condition. So instead of either spending $150,000 of my own money to get treatment (or, if I can't afford that, just letting the cancer spread until I die), I can get coverage.

The price of Obamacare keeps going up and is becoming an unrealistic policy. I pray the Supreme court is sensible and throws out the entire healthcare plan.

Perhaps someone on this thread far wiser than I can answer this for me. How come the House hasn't just cut off funding for this? Can't they do that and basically choke the law to death due to lack of money? What am I missing here?

Most of the provisions of Obamacare do not come into place until 2014. Also Obamacare will not require much federal money. It mainly sets up state insurance exchanges so people can buy affordable health insurance. This article claims it will force states to come with more money. That may be true but without knowing the time fame it does not mean much.

Just the only member of Congress who matters, Dingy Harry Reid (D-Nevada), and the fact that PlaceboCare is "mandatory" spending and thus on automatic pilot.

But...but,, we have to pass the bill in order to find out what's in it. We cannot afford to allow ourselves to be led anymore by self-important, maladjusted, troglodytes like Reid, Pelosi and Obama. These fools have no concern for this nation whatsover. Their goal is to replace our system with the Soviet model of socialism by Balkanizing America, trampling on the Constitution, and replacing original intent with positivism. They are termites who undermine everything that they touch.

Fortunately, the people that Obama chose to argue for Obamacare are mental midgets. They are the mental equal of Kaegan. All of whom are tiny specs standing in the shadows of Scalia, Roberts and Thomas. Lucky for the Obaminites, the bill is so long. Otherwise that 5-4 decision striking down the bill would have already been made.

A Real American

The Supreme Court should throw out the entire bill. If a part of the bill is unconstitutional than the whole bill is unconstitutional. Take it back to the drawing board ...then put it on the back burner for about 50 years. Fixing the economy should be job one for all of our politicians. Finding oil and drilling in our own country should be job 2. The American people aren't buying the deflated unemployment numbers the "government" is posting....the housing issue is not getting better....the economy is very teneous at best and the liberals want to harness us with a 17 Trillion dollar Albatross of a health care bill.

The "Obama experiment" isn't working and will only get worse. Now no one can trust him after the open mic incident with Medvedev where he is basically caught horse trading our Nato missile defense initiative to gain favor with the incomming "sabre ratteling" new Russion president Putin. OMG ....save our country and vote him out in 2012!

my dear American cousins, i had to leave and walk away for a minute. why because i was about to have a fit! Money? money is the reason to object to "Obama-care" well so be it. it might be the reason our founding fathers finaly had a "FIT" they to had to bare the burdens of a tryannical government. they to sought out similar liked minded people to sound off. there was the intolerable acts, a tea tax, a sugar tax, embargos of their ports. they were forced to house government miltary in their proivate homes. they sufered spies among themselves. well it came to a point of no return. they declared their right to self rule. not just on paper but a lexington and concord with thier scared lifes. are we at a simalar point? are we willing to pleaged our lives, our processions, and our honor to defend freedom against tryanny?

I believe that the responsibility has landed upon our generation to defend the republic the founders sacrificed so much to establish. Our national anthem is a question:

O! say can you see by the dawn's early light,

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,

Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,

O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?

And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;

O! say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Does it? We will answer that question in November.

So not only does it blatantly defy the constitution, hurt businesses, hospitals, doctors & seniors, hurt our insurance plans, hurt the states, but it ALSO increases our already bloated national debt by a factor of TRILLIONS in order to do it??

Can someone tell me how there is still a debate as to whether this law should be continue to be implemented or not?

Because a sizable chunk of O's reelection team, much like his original election team, are members of the press. They are slaves carrying water for him. Socialists. Ivy League graduates etc....same thing.

Our country is saturated with leftist sycophants. Would that our elephants had the testicles for the job they were elected to. But alas, they apparently fear that same press/reelection team. They are more fit to star in a weenie roast than to serve in our Nation's Capitol.

Money?! is that The reason to object to "Obama-care"? i think not! where is the founding principle of free choice in "Obama-care"? all i see is the chains of Tryanny! why, if this is health care reform, is the I.R.S. having to add agents?, why, if this is health care reform, will we be subjected to a federal sales tax on reestate? where is the freedom of religion in "Obama-care" what will true believers in freedom do, if the Supreme Court rules in favor increasing government powers? powers that the founding fathers warned future generations against? as Patrick Henry stated so well " is life so dear and peace so sweet to be bound by the chains of tryanny? God Almighty forbid. i do not know what others may do, but as for me, Give Me LIBERTY, or Give Me Death"

Liberals always imagine that somehow, someway they'll eventually be able to make the 'rich' pay for things - even though all the wealth of the rich cannot come close to doing the job.

Meanwhile they will bankrupt our great country. But at least they feel very good about themselves while doing it - especially compared to us mean-hearted, greedy, selfish conservatives.

I'm with you. My friends laugh at me, but over the past two years, I have quietly stocked up on ammo, seeds, storable foods, and all other emergency long-term items I would need to take care of me and the doggies. Nobody is getting in here if I go into lock down, unless they blow the place up. I'm even in the process of learning Ham radio and getting all the equipment - those folks will be invaluable in a true emergency. I hadn't thought about tobacco, but you are dead on. I'll start adding that to the pile. Sure, people laugh at me and call me the mountain lady, even though I live in the city... but I'd rather be ready, even if the worst never comes.

Eyes Bleeding: Obama stated healthcare law reform would not cost a penny over $1 trillion ($900 billion to be precise), and that it would not add ‘one dime’ to the public debt. It appears that this estimate may have been slightly optimistic… instead of merely relying on the CBO’s (Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs’) funding estimates. So after actually running the numbers Sessions has uncovered that the true long-term funding gap is a mind-boggling $17 trillion, just a tad more than the original sub $1 trillion forecast. This latest revelation means that total underfunded US welfare liabilities: Medicare, Medicaid and social security now amount to $99 trillion!!

Add to this total US debt which in 2 months will be $16 trillion, and one can see why Japan, which is about to breach 1 quadrillion in total debt (yen, but who's counting), may want to start looking in the rearview mirror for up and comer competitors. While Obama may have been taking creative license with a number that is greater than total US GDP, he was most certainly correct when saying that Obamacare would not add a penny to US debt. Because the second the US government comes to market to fund a true total debt/GDP ratio of 750%, it is game over! The Fed will have its hands full selling Treasury puts every waking nanosecond to have any time left for the daily 3pm stock market ramp.

steveegg

Funny you mention quadrillion, because that is less than what the cumulative nominal cost of just the unfunded portion of the welfare state will cost by 2085.
