Sullivan: Obama’s not really a big spending liberal

Andrew Sullivan on the Chris Matthews Show this morning said that Obama is not a big spending liberal and he really wants tax and debt reform:

Remember, he didn’t really want the stimulus package. He didn’t expect when he ran for president he’d have the worst depression in the world. He had to spend that money. The health care reform in that context could have been skewed as a big spending liberal. But he’s not a big spending liberal – never was – and he wants tax reform and debt [reform] for reasons that he always said.

A couple of points:

  • By Obama’s own standards the stimulus has failed as we are almost at 10% unemployment (which in total unemployment is around 17%)
  • By the end of his first two fiscal years as President, he has racked up almost 3 trillion in deficits opposed to Bush racking up 2 trillion in eight fiscal years

It amazes me how liberals just want to skewer Bush over deficits yet Obama gets a pass when in reality his numbers are skyrocketing those of Bush’s. And you’ll also hear how enthusiastic they are when it comes to the potential for Obama to resuscitate his presidency for a possible second term by working with the very Republicans that he’s done nothing but bash since he’s been president.

Oh the hypocrisy!!!
