It’s like no one has learned anything—- bringing attention (especially negative, because remember, they see us as [capitalists] the enemy) will re-motivate them. You want them discouraged and without hope so that they go home because if they believe they are making a difference, they will never leave. Aside from that obvious crap, they are looking to entice the tea party into the movement or into a protest. If there is one common complaint visitors of this site have had it is the misrepresentation of their rally by looking at the radical few rather than the movement at large.
Aren’t we just doing that here? Do we believe that the OWS is full of loons? A man came with a megaphone, started yelling things and had to be silenced because he was obviously trying to show he has the loudest voice in the room, and thus is right. Sort of like when siblings fight. I’m sure if the creator of this video had approached people, spoke to them one on one as he did initially, rather than use a megaphone to tell the OWS crowd they are cowards and bash their whole movement, then he wouldn’t have been greeted with such hostility. Clearly his intent was to upset these protesters and record them as being disruptive.
I was troubled by the statement the creator of the video made toward the midpoint of the footage, “If you don’t want to pay for it, don’t go to college.” So if you’re poor, you must sacrifice your chance at climbing out of poverty via higher education? That’s not right… Yeah, there needs to be a medium that we can agree on. Surely, you shouldn’t avoid college if you can’t afford it. And you shouldn’t expect the greatest universities in the world to be free of charge. Let’s show we aren’t congress and can actually make decisions that most of us approve of.

Your second point is completely unintelligible. What he is saying is that if you do not want to pay (either up front or paying back your loans) then you should not go to college. They are asking for the govt. to forgive all student loans and make post secondary education free. He says if you do not want to pay then do not take out loans to go to college. Post secondary education is not free, nor should it be. It may in many cases be valueless anyway. Education earlier than it is not “free” either. It was taxed from the coerced, on the assumption that they as society members were either related to the recipients of the education, or somehow benefitted from its happening. Neither precisely true. Those who applied for college and were not told that it would be a loan that presumed repayment are lying and not reading the fine print. Contracts are entered into as commitments on both parties. If education is sought for free or at a discount there are obvious answers. Co-op work and study plans, correspondence schools, community colleges, and the options of military service with specialized training and veterans benefits are all available. So are scholarships to those showing aptitude for what they would undertake to learn. I suspect the malcontents Occupying had none of the foregoing in mind and were just similar to the draft deferment slackers of the Woodstock Nation.

I am saying that the cost of college is astronomically high and there should be something done so more people can have access to education. What should be done? I’m not really the legislature, but maybe tuition based on income? Something other than the status quo, unless we want to keep the poor where they are.

Life is not “fair.” The most indigent of this or any other Western nation are wealthy by historical standards. Society is riding on the shoulders of every technological innovation and productivity enhancement that free enterprise has brought about. So “Born in poverty” means usually an absence of self restraint or a prophylactic, or some spiritual guidance. It does NOT mean a defect in our society as a whole. If you insist in “equality of result,” that is a non free market perversion of the equality of opportunity we have largely achieved. It is not found here, nor in any communist alternative society those “occupiers” dimly imagine as their utopia.

You’re speaking about “fair” as if life or some people owe other people “fairness”. Wrong. What the Founding Fathers of America fought for was the opportunity to make something of yourself, not the opportunity to force or guilt-induce others to support you. Are you an adult? Then be responsible for yourself.
“Higher education” is not the same as “education”. All you need to find and hold a job and to advance, is reading comprehension, writing ability, and basic math, and I’ve known people who didn’t have all of those, yet did very well. At least they were able to respect themselves. You should have learned those basics by the sixth grade at the latest. Advanced education is valuable if you have the talent AND the self-discipline to put it to use. If you can’t or won’t make your own way, then you’re a drag on the rest of us who are trying just to pay our bills and eat and provide for our own futures and those of our own children, and have some fun (which we have every right to do) with the money you want us to give you. Get a job, Jus. Educate yourself. Libraries, the internet, asking questions and showing interest at work, doing a great job at whatever job you can get – these are all ways to advance, or at least keep a job.
Granted, life is tough, especially now. The scenario I painted above has flaws. Several million people are out of work. Deal with it. It’s called being an adult. You have time to sit around and complain on a computer (yours?) at a website, now tell me, how many job applications have you put in this week? Or month?
BTW, how are you able to afford food, computer, etc., right now? Are taxpayers already supporting you?
Would you take a job flipping burgers? Or doing housecleaning? Or clerking at a convenience store? If you have no skills at the moment, work with what you’ve got. A job gives you real-world experience in getting along with people, working with people, and a lot more. Attitude makes a huge difference.
Education is not what’s being taught in most schools for the last thirty or so years. Marxist doctrine – such as “give me what you have” – is what kids – like you, evidentally – are being taught. That’s not productive or useful to anyone but the marxist rulers and their sycophants. What have you contributed to America? What have you done for anyone? Are your parents proud to have produced a child whose greatest accomplishment is learning to sit up and beg? Make yourself useful.

Do you believe the professors are overpaid/underpaid or expected to do charity work? Do you accept /reject ideas of tenure? Of “Publish or Perish?” Are they entitled to restrain free trade in their services by compulsory unionization? Do you doubt the buildings need heat or maintenance? Do you doubt that many institutions are often amassing endowments, instead of utilizing them at the proper rate? Do you subscribe to the ideas of diversity/perversity, or in loco parentis? Do you believe no education ever occurred beyond classrooms, in free reading, or later, in on the job training? Do you think or do you doubt the publishing industry for textbooks benefits from planned obsolescence in them, and the curricula that specify them? Have you forgotten merit scholarships? Pell Grants? All the foregoing impact the “costs” for higher education in our society, paid largely by non recipients of it. Education is not a right. It is not even a necessity to survive or to prosper. It is often not even imparting truthful discourse.

Which is ironic because they support all the government social programs and know that their generation (those of them with jobs) is paying to ensure the solvency of those programs for the current generation of recipients, but they haven’t considered that massive future generations of taxpayers are going to have to EXIST in order to ensure the solvency of those programs when their turn comes.
Actually, they may have considered this, which would explain, in part, why they’re standing in the street with their hands out today. There’s no way the workforce needed to fund their crappy, SSI funded retirements will ever even be born.

Obama is trying go around congress and implement some of these policies right now. I’m telling you, Obama must not win a 2nd term or we are in serious trouble. He is a socialist and is (has already) started class warfare in this country, which could be our demise unless we turn it around. Cain could be an answer but anyone other than a D!

Oblameus has awakened enough sane independents and some old democrats that they have no home in the old Donkey party, and no common cause with the Wasserman-Slutz’ McKinnie Reid Schumerist loudmouth loons. They will be cashiered when their terms are up, and what replaces them may be somewhat more humbled by and respectful of our Constitution and our institutions.

I think both the Occupy Wall Street and Occupy The Fed people are idiots with flawed arguments. Both ideologies are sure ways to a true Banana Republic.
