Ted Cruz played several past Hagel interviews where he was asked anti-Israel and anti-America questions by callers and he agreed with them all – and Cruz blasted him for it.

I'm sorry, but is Hagel nominated for Secretary of Defense of the USA....or Secretary of Defense of Israel? Because they are most definitely not the same thing. In terms of real national security interests , they are very much at odds, in fact.

It is neither a liberal nor conservative position, but merely a rational and realistic one, to say without equivocation that Israel and it's influence on American foreign policy is one of Americas biggest liabilities.

Consider the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the USA, the resulting catastrophic loss of American lives, the erosion of civil liberties that has resulted, and the tax dollars lost in the 'War on Terror'. None of it would have happened if not for the USA choosing a side in a thousand-year-old religious-ethnic conflict among foreign desert peoples. Neither side in that conflict has anything to do with the USA's founding peoples or heritage.

Strategically, in a post-cold-war world, Israel is insignificant to the United States. They have never committed troops to fight alongside the US in any conflict. That might be a good thing, since the inflated myth of the IDF's combat prowess was forever ended in their floundering offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon in 2006.

Israel is of use as an intelligence source, of course, but only against enemies that the USA has because of major US financial and military aid to Israel. It is circular logic to suggest we need to be allied with them to combat enemies that we only have because we are allied with Israel.

It is a sad testament to the gullibility and group-think of too many Americans in general that so many would-be conservatives have been duped by the Jewish-owned corporate media hacks on both side of the party lines into conflating Israeli security interests with American security interests, and brainwashed into thinking the USA actually benefits from all the toxic baggage that has come along with our nation's unwarranted and unjustifiable 'special relationship' with Israel.

The USA needs to cut the umbilical cord to Israel, get out of mideast politics and disengage from that region economically, ceasing all oil importation from Islamic countries and ramping up domestic exploration and development to the utmost. Maybe then we will have a chance at salvaging what is left of the American Republic, and a shot at preserving an American future for our children.

If Senator Cruz could be on the committee when Obama starts naming Supreme Court Judges, he would tear them apart rather than softball cross examing questions.

Cruz (and others) very impressive at putting clear evidence and statements of Hagel under scrutiny. Hagel's attempts (and his supporters) to dismiss them as not representative of his views seem now quite inaccurate. HE may still get the votes, but Dems credibility would be badly damaged with his confirmation. From the start, the Obama defense against perceived "daylight" between Israel and US is refuted by his nomination, and there is little doubt this testimony makes that claim entirely false and purposely deceptive. Add this to a growing list of Obama's rhetoric of centrism and moderate, mainstream policies, refuted by the more obvious realities. His agenda is far left of American people, and Obama knows his agenda will not be supported if presented

honestly. Media on board with the Dem party, so this basic dishonesty continues unabashedly by the administration.

Sen. Cruz will hopefully make Marco step up his game. I am afraid Marco may have already been corrupted. Time will tell us if Marco is getting duped (after we review the language of the immigration bill). Sen. Cruz is the real deal though!

Senator Ted Cruz was absolutely terrific and bold in his questioning of former senator Haegel. AND Senator Cruz is a TEA Party Conservative the kind we need many more of in Washington.

Sorry guys. We are on our way out. We have open Antisemites and AntiAmericans in the most powerful positions in America. Our darling Republicans have compromised on our principles for a century. Slowly and patiently the liberal progressives have gotten everything they want, because our guys have no balls. No offense ladies.

Up until today I'd heard nothing about Cruz that even hinted we should keep our guard up about him. And then I visited vdare, which I do daily, and read this article:

"National Review Institute Summit: Conservatism Inc. Stunned—But Not Stunned Enough To Consider Patriotic Immigration Reform

By James Kirkpatrick on January 31, 2013 at 11:55pm," here:

http://www.vdare.com/articles/national-review-institute-summit-conservatism-inc-stunned-but-not-stunned-enough-to-conside

American patriots are going to have to excel at, no, surpass, hawk-like hunting skills if we have any hope whatsoever of defeating the Republican establishment which has formed a devil's bargain with liberals and leftists to undermine our liberty and to make of us subservient to their increasingly powerful oligarchy.

Read the Vdare piece... Looks like a recycled Huffington Post site. I'm no fan of National Review, or especially Bill Krystol, but common. Thanks for a waste of time, I thought from your description, it was a conservative article.

Hagel is a punk. He's got a lot of crap to talk, but suddenly gets all tongue tied when he's called out on his crap. "Context", he asks for? HE WAS THERE, AND IT DRIBBLED OUT OF HIS OWN MOUTH. He knows the "context" damned well.

I hope Cruz doesn't disgrace himself by devolving into a Rubio.

So Hagel disagreed with Bush on Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan? So Hagel disagrees with Obama about Libya, Syria, Mali, Yemen, etc. I guess that I agree with Hagel. What do you call a country that supports Al Qaeda in overthrowing governments, then puts radical Islamists in power? What do you call a country who strikes targets with drones not even knowing who is in the buildings they bomb? What do you call a country who's military occupies a country that never attacked them, disarming the people while performing house to house raids for years on end? What do you call a country who seems to only overthrow governments who don't give in to the World Bank, puts Islamists in power who give into the world bank, and sells out their resources to wester oil interests?

It may not be the American people who sanction all of this, but it is our politicians who do it all. We supposedly elect these people, so they ultimately represent us.

People need to realize that our government uses our resources, including our military, to bulley people around the world. But even more important, our government bullies us. Homeland security was not created to stop foreign terrorists, it was created to cause the American people to be under the thumb of the federal government, and give them the power to treat us like literal slaves.

Yes, our government is a freaking bully, and they do the same crap around the world. "Bully of the World". Not so far off.

Hagel is just another establishment shill doing what he has to for political progression.

Wow, Hagel is a GREAT candidate for SecDef (Sarc). How did obama's team come up with Hagel's name as a nominee for SecDef????? He seems incapable of representing himself, much less the United States. He comes across as anti-Israel, anti-US...not my idea as the ideal SecDef.

Note: I thought it interesting that some of Hagel's comments were on Al Gore's network of choice, Al-Jeezra!!!!!!!

Cruz attended high school at Faith West Academy in Katy, Texas,[11] and then graduated from Second Baptist High School in Houston.

Cruz earned his Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School. He was an editor of the Harvard Law Review, an executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy.

Bet his school records and grades are available on request.

So far all of the questioning has been spewed with waaaaaaaaaaayyyyy to much respect! Can't the Senators ask to treat this jacka$$ as a dip stick? I mean the questioning should be soooo much more demeaning and hurtful.

Senator Hagel; wouldn't you agree that your lips have been on the end of a hose contected to a running vehicle for so long that your brain has been reduced to mush?

Senator Hagel; since you are having soooo much difficulty in remembering the context of what you say, is it safe sir to assume you no longer have the ability to wipe your own arse?

Senator Hagel; exactly what is it sir that you believe? Would you be willing to put that in writing, as our fore fathers did when they signed the Declaration of Independence, and die in its service like so many veterans have in the past and still are today?

Senator Hagel; since you wish to be the next SOD, would you be willing to stand arm in arm with those same soldiers you will deploy in harm’s way after making these vile statements?

Oh forget it Mr. Hagel, you are not worthy of being called a Senator or Secretary of Defense.
