And not because he’s black…and before I knew he was more left than right. In fact, 3 years ago I wanted him to run for president. He would have been my guy.
But his isn’t about Colin Powell.
This is about the Carl Popes of the world who continuously label the conservative right in this country as racists. If a government official is black, and they are corrupt, and conservatives seem to be the only ones pointing it out, then apparently we want to put them back on the plantation or pretend they are not part of our nation.
This is as ridiculous as it sounds. So let me be clear about something of which the hard green lefties seem to be unaware. Most Americans – I’ll even go so far as to say 99% of Americans – don’t care about race at all whether they are right or left. What we care about is our country and the issues that our leaders are trying to affect. We are not here to pledge allegiance to a single person or a single party. We are here to live life in the good ole USA that we grew up in, and to experience joy in the relationships we have with family and friends.
In fact, most of us don’t even want to think about politics on a daily basis. And that’s been looked at in the past as a bad thing. But right now we have an engagement of the public we haven’t seen in years – and much of it is conservative. But as conservatives get involved and disagree with the President’s policies, we are branded as racists.
Where is the intellectual dialogue? Where are the intellectual disagreements? Where is the intellectual honesty in calling someone a racist to make your argument?
It’s not right, nor fair, when either side resorts to such. And I’m honestly getting tired of it.
If you must disagree, then do it honestly.
