“Thump the Bible”: BillO gets angry at Laura Ingraham for suggesting his comment wasn’t helpful

BillO wanted to be told that he said nothing wrong, that his comment suggesting that the opposition to gay marriage does nothing but “thump the Bible” wasn’t offensive. He even got so heated that at one point Laura Ingraham asked him “why are you yelling at me?” He just doesn’t get why it is offensive.

Watch:

My problem with his comments is how dismissive and wrong they are. To call it ‘Bible thumping’ sounds so mindless and thoughtless. And there are plenty of us making arguments that go further than just ‘thumping the Bible’. But to suggest that the Bible must be completely dismissed in this debate is absurd because to do so is to also dismiss the First Amendment.

I have a God-given right to believe that gay marriage is wrong and not in God’s design. I have a God-given right to believe that God sees homosexuality as a sin that needs repentance. I have a God-given right to disagree with it and you can’t take that away from me because the First Amendment says you cannot!

People who believe that gays and lesbians just want to be married like the rest of us and don’t care if people disagree with it – well they are walking around with a blindfold on. Just look around at the lawsuits filed against people because they disagree with it. There’s a whole list right here.

So call me a mindless ‘Bible thumper’ if you want Bill O’Reilly, but the truth is my religious beliefs are protected by the First Amendment and it is the First Amendment which will erode if gay marriage becomes legal, whether it be at the state level or at the federal level.

As an aside Bill O’Reilly, Rep. Steve King made a compelling, non-Biblical argument against same-sex marriage. You can read it here.
