Gun control on cable…well just on advertising, not on real shows that you watch:

BC – Just weeks after the mass shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., Time Warner Cable has initiated a company-wide ban on certain gun ads.

“We no longer accept ads showing semi-automatic weapons and guns pointed at people,” Time Warner Cable said in a statement. “We stand by this policy. If it’s essential to a business owner to show this kind of imagery in their commercials, there are other advertising options in the marketplace.”

WHAT BS The shows that they have on show kid being assaulted. But showing people selling legal guns in a paid add is Banned. I will get rid of my Time Warner Cable. I belong to the NRA and think that they are playing fast and loose with the facts.

I no longer use Time Warner.. But, what I find interesting is that all their advertisements, lies, propoganda and talking heads along with obama and his staged theatricals using children as props doesn't and won't change one word of our Second Amendment to our Constitution so let them rave on.... They're convincing no one. Sixty-five percent of americans see gun ownership as protection against tyranny according to Rasmussen. The NRA enrolled a quarter of a million americans who joined the NRA in one month! The National Rifle Association was not soliciting their membership; these people joined voluntarily. You have to look hard to find a gun in many stores that normally sell them and even the police departments can't find ammunition. America will not be persuaded by leftists and a marxist president to lay down their arms.

Are they still accepting ads depicting chain saw torture? Or is this merely a product issue?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never seen any ads anywhere showing semi-automatic weapons and guns pointed at people. Where I live, I haven't even SEEN any gun ads AT ALL on cable TV. But I do see all these car advertisements with very few ads promoting safe driving, even though a lot more people are killed in traffic accidents each year than are killed by guns. Should we now start banning car ads from cable TV? Sure, that will be the day.

Exactly, marketing ploy. Unfortunately, the sheeple will not see this.

What a stupid decision. The hypocrisy is amazing.

The absolute lunacy of the left!! They won't accept paid advertising showing semi-automatic weapons, but they will allow hours and hours of programing a day filled with gun violence. Absolute lunacy and hypocrisy. One has to wonder what other ridiculous decisions are made at Time Warner Cable.

TWC has the right as a private company to show what ever they want to.

We as consumers have the right to watch another cable network that is not "RIDICULOUSLY STUPID"

Much ado about nothing, from a bunch of PC weenies. Why do they act like semi-auto's are suddenly a problem, when they've been around for over a century? The Colt .45 semi-auto pistol carried us through WWI, WWII, Korea, and into Vietnam. It was accepted by the military in 1911, and is still wildly popular with the public today. Which really IS suddenly a problem; our guns, or our sick society? Put violent criminals in jail, where they belong.

Can't wait to see what the fall out is on this one. Remember what happened to Carbonite when the company took a political position...idiots.

Yet these idiots will play, continuously, a full weekend showing of all the "Kill Bill" movies. These movies have more bullets, swords, and buckets of blood than just about any other batch of films.

how can I not watch these ads if I don't have TWC?

:) LOL :)

Lol... much as I hate liberal commercials on FNC... they are laughing all the way to the bank.

Poor TWC... the revenue they will lose. Good riddance to TWC... time to boycott them too.

I don't think I've ever seen a commercial for a gun anyway. They get plenty of free ads from tv shows and movies!

What? What gun ads? I can't recall any firearms advertised on TV, ever.

Is this some sort of meaningless public relations stunt?

No semiautomatics? Muzzle loaders and revolvers A OK ?

Weird.

Mainly hunting/sportsman type cable channels I think.

Glen4001
Glen4001

I don't recall that channels for hunters and sportsmen having ads showing guns pointed at people, unless maybe its advertising a gun for self defense and the ad shows a gun pointed at a criminal.

I think most of the ads with images of guns pointed at people are ads for violent movies and TV shows, the very bread and butter of cable programming!

aposematic

That will get the guns out of those criminals hands as they sit all day watching TV commercials. Wondering ... were do they get the time to do the criminal stuff?

johnos2112
johnos2112

But they will show TV programs about the same thing. A world full of hypocrites!

Nukeman60
Nukeman60

Yeah, so they want to restrict the selling of these guns and not the exploitation of them. Exploiting gun violence is a-ok with them. Video games and Hollywood have absolutely nothing to do with the culture of violence that we have running rampant around this country, right?

Rshill7

Wrong, but in a good way.

Nukeman60

Yeah, it may or may not, but the hypocrisy of those that ban the commercials is just too much for me to stomach, sometimes.

aposematic

I guess your at least partially correct. If I see a commercial/ad, my inclination is to never buy whatever it is they're selling. I have several reasons for this I won't waste your time with.I have taught Marketing Research College level 400 courses. So I'll leave it there for those pushed to act on ads.

Rshill7
Rshill7

If what folks saw could not move them to action in a big way, there'd be no advertising industry. The culture and what people see much more than commercials also have an effect.

WhiteGuy2

Yes it is, we should pass a law that all firearms have to be painted pink. A pink AR15 isn't nearly as scary as a big black one, and its much less likely to steal your car..

not too long ago a guy had shot an intruder with a pink gun... i heard about it on the radio... and he was laughing about it.. it was his wifes , his was in the gun safe downstairs, hers was in her nightstand, when they heard someone break in .. she handed him, her cobra 380 semi auto... he said he felt silly carrying a pink gun but it did the job... seriously injured 1 and the other guy wasn wounded not seriously... it was an amusing true story
