I had talked about this with my parents just earlier tonight. This is a two-headed coin and I think the timing was just TOO CONVENIENT.
On one side, you have that the law clearly states that they can't racially profile. Was that to say that somehow that's what they were doing in the past? Also, it basically states that we can arrest, imprison, and/or deport these guys. Was this something that wasn't being done before?
On another side, I'm gonna touch on what Ramesh said…”If the cops are going to do it anyway, then why do we need the law?” Personally, I share the Reverend's distrust for police because I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've been pulled over for a tag light that was supposedly out but wasn't really and have been hassled about why I won't let the officer search my car when he had no probable cause to do so.
My point was well made I thought in this. Those cops who are going to racially profile will do so whether this law was passed or not. If a cop wants to lie about his reasoning for stopping someone and claim that the pull over was legitimate, then that will happen whether this law is passed or not.
I'm pretty sure being a border state as long as Arizona has been, I can't seriously see how they weren't already arresting those without proof of citizenship and/or deporting them.
I think the state of Arizona is IN on this game. That's just MY thoughts on it.

If a couple of us were to make it into another country (Canada, France, Mexico, etc) illegally. And we got caught. What would they do with us? After spending a while in jail (with God knows what kind of treatment and living conditions) they would penalize us and/or send us back to the U.S.
That country would 'inforce' their laws. Which is exactly what any state in our union should be able to do.

Fact: Sharpton has a problem with the drug cartels
Fact: The drug cartels originate and are caused by MEXICANS
Fact: If Sharpton were to go after the cartels he would have to profile their members as being MexicanObviously the problem is illegal aliens so in 99.99% of the case in the border they are HISPANIC? He wants to ask everyone for their citizenship papers? What common sense does that make. This is the exact same thing as searching the “Swedish grandmother” at the airport and letting middle eastern looking people pass for “fairrrrrnessss” Attack the problem head on. AZ-profile hispanics that common sense tells you are illegal Airports- profile middle easterns that common sense tells you is most likely be a threat

Just out of curiousity, how are they going to enforce this without profiling?
“Hey, Chinese girl, show me your papers … Did you swim across the Pacific?”

Tucker loses. Sharpton made a good point: How can we stop illegal immigration from Mexico if we don't look for illegal immigration from Mexico? Tucker then said, this law isn't even about Mexico. Wait, I thought it was about illegal immigration in Arizona? Tucker just contradicted himself.

To Sharpton: How can we quote “look for illegal immigration from Mexico” without profiling for people who look like they're from Mexico?
All this bill requires is that you prove your legal status aka drivers liscence or other things that every citizen carries around every day! Wow what an attack on liberty!

Well…if we haven't been jailing and deporting these guys, then I don't see the problem with the law.
If we WERE already doing it, then it just seems too convenient.
- Tyler
I can see where the bill borderlines an encroachment on civil liberties though. The next step is to randomly post up checkpoints at every spot you can and demand identification.
But…truth be told, it does sound to me like all they're really doing is actually enforcing the laws that should have already been enforced.
- Goldni007
To be honest..I thought that this was common. Why have'nt they (police) been doing this sort of thing all along? I have gotten stopped before for various reasons. Guess what? I was not doing anything illegal! No big deal! I complied with the authorities!! If one is not doing anything wrong..then so what!!

What it's about is being harassed by the police.
As I stated in the above example I gave, I've been stopped for my tag lights being out even though they weren't and then asked if they could search my vehicle even though they had no probable cause. I've also had the stop and bug for vehicle search happen when I was 18 up until I was 22 because I looked like I was a minor out after curfew before.
If you don't call these guys out on stopping you for no real reason other than to harass you and don't ask them for a warrant when they try to search you and your vehicle…then it opens the doors for them to just keep going.
The civil rights encroachment comes in small increments. This is a test. They want to see how far they can go with it.
The federal government wants to use this as an excuse to give people National ID cards with RFID tracking in them. So…let's get this straight. Instead of actually fortifying the borders better and actually posting people to guard it like we SHOULD be doing…we're going to CONTROL THE PEOPLE instead.

al sharpton needs to shut up. period end of story.
how quickly we forget the Durham N.C. rape case where he brought in by the bus load the Black Panthers to prtotest, and then that black girl admitted that she lied about the whole thing…DID AL APOLOGISE TO THE NATION? NO.
al sharpton has ZERO STREET CRED. he is a punkass ambulance chaser race baiter.
period. end of story.oh by the way, what church is he THE REVERENED of?
id like the media to quit kissing his ass. - KeninMontana
Seems pretty cut and dry to me. You have a federal law on the books that is not being enforced, the people of Arizona living on the frontline of the problems porous borders present decided to do something about. Since their local LEOs cannot enforce federal law they pass a state law (that mirrors the federal one) therefore allowing state and local LEOs to be able to protect the people they have sworn to protect. By the way, it's the US/MEXICAN border,so just who do you suppose the overwhelming majority of the illegals are from? Sharpton need to stay in NY or wherever he resides and let Arizona deal with this.
- Tyler
I just posted it on the Beck clip a second ago, but I'll put it here. I've pieced all this together and came to a final conclusion.
BOTH sides are playing the game and ARIZONA'S IN ON IT TOO.
Here's what I mean. If Arizona was really just sick and tired of the federal government not doing what it should about the border…then wouldn't the logical solution be to do something…oh…say…ABOUT THE BORDER? Perhaps use your state control of National Guard to actually patrol the borders and PREVENT THE CROSSINGS.
But no…we're going to just make a law which makes illegal immigration a crime that can be checked for which for SOME reason APPARENTLY wasn't the case before.
Here's what I predict will happen since Arizona's opened the gateway for it. The federal government is gonna push through their immigration DEFORM bill and instead of dealing with…oh…say…the BORDER…they're gonna require everyone to have National ID cards with RFID chips in them to track everyone at any time.
Are you kidding me? If this isn't a clear NUDGE towards eroding more of our civil liberties, I don't know what is and NOBODY'S innocent in this because nobody's calling this out for what it REALLY is.

I was homeless and walking the streets of Denver , Colo. , and it is against the law , not to have identification on your person , whether your white , black , brown , or purple .
It’s about time we had a feisty intellectual debate on Hannity. Too bad it took Hannity’s absence to get it.
As many good points that Tucker made in this debate, Ramesh Ponnuru at the end nails The Rev’s problem: he doesn’t trust law enforcement. This law was crafted in such a way that makes racial profiling illegal, but that doesn’t matter to the Rev because he thinks it’s going to happen anyway, so the law be damned. If that’s the case, then what’s the point of the law? If a cop breaks the law he/she is held to account just like a citizen. And in an age of video tape and such, I’d think it’d be easier now than ever to catch law enforcement ‘racial profiling’.
In the end though Tucker is right about the Left using this as a way to get the hispanic vote in 2010. As @iheal said on twitter, they don’t want to lose their ‘voter importation plan’. That’s what this is all about. They want to get the hispanics all fired up that this is a violation of their rights, when in fact it hasn’t even happened yet and the law specifically protects their rights.
The problem is that this isn’t simply a republican law. It was heavily bipartisan with I believe a 70% approval rate among the AZ population. So if they can’t blame Republicans alone, they who do they blame next? All non-minorities?
