The alignment with scripture is even tighter than you think when you understand the archeological context of the nations involved and how the Bible uses historical types. Please consider this.
I am a professional archeologist. Many end times aficionados believe that Magog represents Russia and that Russia will soon come to invade Israel. However, the ancient Assyrians had dealings with Magog, which was also called Lydia, and their Court records clearly identify Magog and it is not Russia. For decades Christians have been deceived and have been unwittingly deceiving others about who is to be involved in the prophesied invasion of Israel. Russia has absolutely nothing to do with Magog and being the nation that will lead an invasion of Israel.
The Assyrian Royal Court dealt with each of these nations directly about 100 years before Ezekiel wrote, and their records are reliable, clear and detailed. These are the same records that are referred to in Ezra 4:15 and the same records used to verify the historical events written about in scripture from circa 800 B.C. to 400 B.C. These records represent the primary source on this subject as opposed to secondary sources which are often not based on facts and very often the product of mischief, bias or lack of study.
Any reference to Josephus is of no avail because historians and archeologists know from a multitude of written records, that the Greeks (such as Herodotus) did not call Magog the Scythians. All of our earliest copies of Josephus come from eleventh century Monks and the passage that is often referred to is clearly a forgery for several reasons obvious to historians and archeologists who study the ancient Near East. As for comparing Gog and Magog of Ezekiel 38/39 to Gog and Magog of Revelation 20:7-10, two different wars are being referred to and the terms Gog and Magog are not being used literally but being used as “historical types.” As referred to in Ezekiel 38-39, the historical Gog who was a “prince” of the nations of Magog, Meshech, and Tubal (which were in the land we now call Turkey) serve as “historical types” of the “antichrist” and the multi-national confederacy over which the antichrist is to rule during the tribulation period. The Bible uses the historical leader Gog as a historical type of the antichrist to come in the exact same ways the Bible uses the historical King David as a type of Jesus’ Second Coming (Ezekiel 34:23 and Ezekiel 37:22-24). Similarly, in Matthew 11:14 (also see Malachi 4:5) and Matthew 17:10-13 (“if you will receive it”) Jesus in effect says that John is a historical type of Elijah. In other words, “Gog and Magog” (remember in Akkadian “Magog” means “the land of Gog”) in their most basic meaning, are taken to be types or references to any “antichrist” and “the land of this antichrist;” just as I John 2:18, 22, 4:3, and II John 7 says “there are many antichrists.” Thus, Revelation 20 tells of a second and separate battle involving another Gog and Magog, that is, a different battle involving another antichrist and the lands of this antichrist that takes place around 1,000 years after the battle of Gog and Magog of Ezekiel 38/39. The Gog or antichrist of Ezekiel 38 is involved with one war that is to occur before Jesus returns, and the Gog or antichrist of Revelation 20 is involved with another war that is to occur after Jesus returns and dwells with mankind for one thousand years.
The bottom line for what is said in Ezekiel 38/39 is that just as a real person called Gog led a confederacy of nations around 660B.C., Ezekiel is using Gog as a historical type of the antichrist, and Magog as a historical type of the nations the antichrist is to lead, for a war that Ezekiel is prophesying to occur during the end times. This could be fulfilled by the appearance of an antichrist and a confederacy of European nations representing a revived Roman Empire. Ecclesiastes 1:9 and 3:15 teach that which is to be hath already been and that there is nothing new under the sun. Has such an invasion of the Holy Land and effort to kill Jews by a confederacy of European nations ever occurred before? Yes, deadly invasions of Israel have taken place a number of times. These invasions are called the Crusades of the Middle Ages. A confederacy of European nations has invaded Israel before and according to scripture it seems that these nations will do so again. While Russia’s anti- Israel actions regularly appear in the news, it is interesting to note the ever growing anti-Israel attitude and actions of the European Community.

Thanks to the Dems and others on the gravy train to bankruptcy, and the USA with a anti- American president, this type of stuff is acceptable. Why isn't SoS Clinton on her way there to smooth things out? - oh because there is no intention to. Obama doesn't care- he has a 747 jet for another 4 years, (oh and a mansion recently appraises at $250 million-and thats without them knowing all the hidden goodies that are in that place). Good luck folks. We are in bad times. (in 2015 will Obama still be blaming Bush? - which means anyone older than 10 in 2008 will be able to vote in 2016. Interesting how the Muslims never bother to mention WHY Israel is attacking Gaza. I'm just waiting for Egypt and Iran to get into the act. If they do, this could be bad. But until Iran gets its own nuclear bomb, I don't think they are going to stick their necks out too much. After all, the Iranians don't want to give the Israelis any excuse to attack their nuclear program.

I don't think any particular current country is the Antichrist. That's not part of my religious teachings. There's a better case, in fact, that the Papal Church fits the role.

Remember Fox reported that a ship filled with arms that were originally Kadafi's, possibly some 20,000 SAM missiles included, left Benghazi in early September and arrived shortly after in Turkey? The arms were to go to the rebels fighting in Syria via the Muslim Brotherhood. It took days for the ship to get from Libya to Turkey. Imagine that the trip from Turkey to Gaza is even shorter, an the Turks had the weapons for over two months now.
Those who hate Israel also hate America and our president is on their side.

More people were killed by the state of Iran (death penalty) during Operation Pillar of Defense than were killed by the IDF - and those killed were in the majority Hamas bad men, who hide behind their wives and children.
The IDF had over 1.000 sorties since the beginning of Pillar of Defense. The vanishing small number of resulting deaths and casualties are amazing, and a credit to the IDF.
Meanwhile, Hamas keeps on shelling Israel with their missiles - one of which hit a school in Ashkelon today. Good thing the Israeli government has kept all children in Southern israel out of school these last days - or not, if you're a Hamas fan.

As for Mr Erdogan: why do you shout for help from NATO when a few missiles land in Turkey thanks to the Syrian uprisings? Turkey isn't bombarded to the tune of nearly 100 missiles a day, is it? Man up!

I have long wondered what role the US would play in the "end times"...People are now clamoring to say Obama in the Anti-Christ...I wouldn't go that far (they said the same about Reagan, Bush, Clinton, etc etc) but I think the most dangerous role the US can play in the Middle East (and the world in general) is NO ROLE...

Those who infer that Israel is a terrorist state close their eyes to the fact that Israel is a tiny nation, the only Jewish nation which is surrounded by millions of square miles of people who hate them and wish to remove them from the face of the earth.
