Turns out Gov. Perdue was actually serious about suspending congressional elections

Yesterday it was reported that Gov. Perdue had called for the suspension of congressional elections in 2012 due to the partisan bickering in Congress:

You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things.

I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover.

I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.

I didn’t report on this yesterday simply because it wasn’t clear to me the context of Perdue’s comments. Was she joking or was she being serious?

The Daily Caller has obtained the audio of her comments, it is pretty clear that she wasn’t joking around, but rather taking a serious tone:

It’s almost hard to take a comment like this seriously because it’s just so absurd to call for the suspension of any elections. And I’m still not convinced she really meant it, that it wasn’t in jest. It’s just a really odd comment that wouldn’t even accomplish what she’s proposing.

What do you think?
