Another day, another unemployment rate drop that is mostly to do with a huge labor force drop. Ho Hum. And the media will act like 146,000+ jobs for November is the best thing that’s ever happened to America..or something.

Here is Jim Pethokoukis’ take on it:

I feel sorry for them even while suffering they can't see how badly they've been deceived and taken advantage of. I wish people would read & heed the Bible.

The average growth in civilian labor workforce during Bush's tenure was 1.7M / yr over the last 4 years, which even included the financial meltdown year of 2008. Under Obama's 4 years, the average growth in civilian workforce has been a paltry 166K / yr. The disparity belies the fact that only 1 out of 6 people in the private sector looking for a job found one (mostly part-time) and the remainder are no longer looking for work out of total discouragement and the unending unemployment comp. These discouraged potential workers in the shadows don't exist in BLS counting.

Bottom line, the BLS numbers are corrupted (on purpose) and the true number of unemployed in this country is closer to 30M , not 23M. That would bring the U-6 number closer to a 19% unemployment rate (instead of the reported 14.6%). There is only one person pulling a wagon of three in this country.

They need to change the way that number is figured. They have altered it and watered it down so much in order to protect corrupt politicians. Only with American politics can you have more people be without work and the unemployment rate goes down at the same time. This is obviously done for propaganda (the calculation method), because it sure doesn't represent the facts.

Spin43 you got the right idea.. It's a done deal.. the collapse is here..

It's all going to collapse quite soon. My recommendation is to purchase a weapon for protection and pull all your money out of your bank and security institutions.

kong1967

What good will that do? If the system collapses, the money you have under your pillow won't be worth anything, either. Unless you just spend everything you have so you have physical assets at the time of collapse.

I stopped putting money into my 401k, but only because Dems have their eyeballs on them and you can lose every penny you have. I'm currently just putting it in the bank so I at least won't lose it if the economy takes a sharp downward turn.

We live in a Red state that is also a Right to Work state. Manufacturers with a union labor force are fewer and fewer as the years go by.

Regardless of the lousy economy, a local union went on strike at a metals manufacturer. While our liberal news rag was very sympathetic with the union workers plight of hardship and struggle in their many articles, the local public had a different view.

In the section for Readers Opinions, writer after writer said the same thing. Fire them, I'll be glad to have their job.

This is off topic of jobs numbers, which I take with a grain of salt, but people are sick and tired of it all. Our local liberals are STILL blaming Bush and the rest of the community are hoping for something no less than impeachment.

Sure, if NOBODY is looking for a job, then unemployment will go down to zero. And we'll probably be looking at that in the not too distant future.

How can anyone beleive anything from this Government? If they told me that the sky was blue and I beleived they were probably right, I still wouldn't beleive them.

In Obama world as soon as the economy collapses and everyone loses their job and gives up looking for a new one we will be at 0% unemployment and Democrats will take actually take credit for this.

I wonder if the people that calculate these numbers really believe in what they are saying. Thank goodness for direct deposit, so they won't have to feel guilty about cashing their paycheck.

The real numbers are reflected in the amount of income tax collected. People who used to work 40-50 hours per week now working 20-30 hours; Workers taking pay cuts to keep their jobs; self-employed people just not making as much money because the economy is in the dumper. Revenue from income taxes must be down severely.

colliemum
colliemum

And that's why taxes will rise - for everybody, not just "The rich Rich", because if you're working and paying taxes, then you're not on the government support drip, and are therefore rich ...

Arrrggghhh
Arrrggghhh

That makes perfect sense. If there's no chance that you'll ever find a job, then you're not really in the labor force. Why don't they just make the number of people working the same as the number of people in the labor force. Voila - always 0% unemployment. When the people that vote for you are stupid enough to believe it, why not? Thank you, Lord and Savior, BO.

Ran into a neighbor just now. He's a closet conservative and never says much and I asked him what he thought about the Unemployment rate and the numbers that just came out.

"7.7% unemployment rate? That sounds okay."

"550,00 more people just dropped off the unemployment rolls? That sounds about right."

"Probable real unemployment rate at about 20%, including me?--That sounds about like what I expected."

"What it the heck are you saying?" I asked. "How can you be so complacent about these unbelievably dismal numbers?"

"Last month I bought an AK-47, the 'Russian and Chinese Peasant's Rifle,' and picked it up yesterday along with 1000 rounds. That gun along with my ,357 revolver, my 12 guage shotgun and my 3-month supply of food completes my Patriot's to-do list. I feel pretty good. I can't do anything about the numbers but I can take care of myself and my family and that's pretty satisfying."

They say you can't pick your neighbors, but sometimes, you just get lucky.

Sadly, 7.7% is the new 4.7%. Before long, it is the new normal. After all, the country is running just fine. Have you noticed any interruptions in your lives? Looks like we didn't need as many workers after all.

Democrat policies always lead the US into high unemployment, welfare/food stamps, business bankruptcies, inflation, irresponsible spending, fiscal instability, high disease/dysfunction and poverty.

One of the sorriest outcomes of Hurricane Sandy was the lie that Obama swooped in to save the day (which gave him a huge boost in his reelection hopes - thanks Crispy Creme). I'm impressed that his abilities far surpassed expectations when he was able to keep this tremendous hurricane, with upwards of $100 billion damage, from affecting the employment rate. Even though communities were devastated, all those jobs just continued onward without skipping a beat.

I heard that, with the new way they count jobs, if you worked one hour for the week, you were considered employed for that week. Naturally one hour per week is far more than enough to support a family of four - if you have enough entitlements to go around.

Perhaps, since the number of people leaving the workforce is growing far faster than the number entering it, we should make that group a new workforce number - call it 'the non-working workers' (if you thought about getting a job for at least one hour a week, you would be considered employed. It could certainly reduce the unemployment number even further. No help for the struggling populace, but hey, it's Obama's legacy we need to consider here, folks).

Obama's legacy huh? We should give it a name. How about "The unconstituting of our Constitution" or "The Death of the Free Market"?

REAL unemployment is over 20% and growing daily.....we see it all around, regardless of "official" number.

By the end of Obuma's second term, the unemployment rate will be zero. All Government job positions will be filled, so no one else will have a job to even look for and all unemployment claims will have run out their term. 100% employment--math is hard?

sjmom

But who will pay these govt workers? Maybe the big money Dems will reach into their moth ridden wallets but I doubt it.

Dropping to 7.7% is just another mirage. Amazing how Government agencies and the media can lie about this crap and it goes unchallenged. ANYTHING to make it look like Obama is the 2nd coming. There is no honesty in America anymore it seems.

What's funny is that you have to go down on the trampoline before you shoot back up towards the sky. Watch these numbers launch upward in 2013 and then be even higher in 2014. There's nothing in the short term (next 1-2 years) that is going to make this improve... especially with that boob Obama at the helm and the damn Democrats in the Senate.

Can't wait to hear Bob Beckle and Juan Williams have an on-air orgasm over this... (sarc/off).

I agree... but I'd rather not.

It's funny, when the rates go back up to reality next year (and they will), let's see how happy these liars are then.

That is, unless the Government and the media keep lying about and manipulating the numbers.

They'll double and triple down on the lies. Methinks what they'll do is request that a new method of tabulation is developed in order to properly establish the new norm.
