This is called risking peoples lives for some benefits. It becomes a public safety issue rather than a nuisance when fire fighters and ambulances can’t get to emergencies. The pepople behind this need to be fired and arrested – and union workers who refused to do their jobs fined and jailed.
In the age of Hope&Change unions who represent only 12% of the workforce are running the show. Enough is too much already.

Can you imagine Union workers doing this to Christie? Oh man, the crap would hit the fan!
- Stephen
So why is Christie the only Repub in the country with kahonas? Ah, for the days when GOP had leadership with vision and guts! Via Politico…
July, ’81 – Robert Poli, president of the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization, (PATCO) sought an across-the-board annual wage increase of $10,000 for the controllers, whose pay ranged from $20,462 to $49,229 per year. He also sought a reduction of their five-day, 40-hour workweek to a four-day, 32-hour workweek. The FAA made a $40 million counteroffer, far short of the $770 million package that the union sought.
8/3/81 – 13,000 controllers walked out after talks with the FAA collapsed. As a result, some 7,000 flights across the country were canceled on that day at the peak of the summer travel season. Reagan branded the strike illegal and threatened to fire any controller who failed to return to work within 48 hours. Federal judges levied fines of $1 million per day against the union. (In 1955, Congress made such strikes punishable by fines or a one-year jail term — a law the Supreme Court upheld in 1971.)
8/5/81 – Reagan fired more than 11,000 air traffic controllers who ignored his order to return to work. To the chagrin of the strikers, the FAA’s contingency plans worked. Some 3,000 supervisors joined 2,000 nonstriking controllers and 900 military controllers in manning airport towers. Before long, about 80 percent of flights were operating normally. Air freight remained virtually unaffected.
In carrying out his threat, Reagan also imposed a lifetime ban on rehiring the strikers.
October 1981 – The Federal Labor Relations Authority decertified PATCO.
And we lived happily ever after!

They did risk lives. What about the woman who delivered a baby which later died because she couldn’t get a ambulance?
These department managers should be tossed in prison.

You gotta love Unions. They bring together the best and the brightest. /Sarcasm.

Fire their asses ! Everyone of them ! Charge the supervisors with the deaths !
One of the deaths was a baby born in a hallway 9 hrs after the 911 call , no one could get to her to help .
I think it’s time to do some union busting in this country when they hold our safety in their hands and care so little for our lives !
I’m so mad I could spit fire . - Anonymous
From the dictionary of REAL Americans:
union = 1. a collection of people headed by goons and thugs organized to extort the maximum possible wages, benefits and pensions for doing the minimum possible amount of actual work. 2. a subsidiary of the lunatic-left d-crat socialist party that provides hundreds of millions of dollars in mandatory union dues as campaign contributions in payback for the billions of dollars of taxpayer money the d-crat socialists funnel to the unions. 3. an entity designed to make any company non-competitive and any state, city or local municipality bankrupt. 4. a collection of people controlled by goons and thugs that are focused on voter intimidation, unless the voter votes for the d-crat socialist party. 5. a tool of the d-crat socialist party to implement its anti-democracy ideology by preventing workers from having a secret ballot as to whether they want to join a union, and instead subjecting them to what is called “card check” that allows union leader goons and thugs to harass, intimidate and threaten workers to join their union.

Unions – can’t live with ‘em, really really don’t want to try living without ‘em.

Yes, but that was a long time ago…unions definitely don’t act on behalf of the worker now, they really have gotten out of control!
- Chicagogrammy
Unions have far outlived their usefulness. Now they are basically criminal organizations, exploiting both their members and the public. Especially in the state and federal government sectors, we need to eliminate unions and put out bids to private sector businesses. The bosses of the New York union should be charged with criminal manslaughter. There were at least 2 deaths that can be traced to their actions.
- Stephen
What Cheryl and Chicago said – Your example happened in 1911, years before OSHA, building inspections, fire egress codes, sprinkler systems, smoke detectors, federal/state/local minimum wage, discrimination laws, and overtime laws, etc, etc. While it’s sad that policy is made over dead bodies, at least policy IS made. In the first half of the 20th century unions were necessary and served an important role. They are now unnessary and detrimental to workers and the economy.
One year after this event, the Titanic went down taking 1500 lives because there were no standards for ship design and materials, not enough lifeboats and no standard procedures for marine disaster and rescue. Marine standards were immediately enforced and it will never happen again. No unions necessary.
- Deb
If this is true, they should ALL be fired. We don’t need unions anymore. They basically are blackmailing the municipalities into doing their bidding. Throw the bums out, hire private contractors and let them bid on the jobs. A new one every year so nobody gets too cushy with the Governor’s office. They have outstayed their welcome.

We don’t need PUBLIC SECTOR UNIONS anymore. Hell we NEVER did. And I say this as a card-carrying member of the IBEW.
Full disclosure: I’m an apprentice with IBEW Local #26

Everyone needs to email their GOP congressmen and Speaker John Boehner about a congressional hearing into this UNION SPONSORED MURDER. They also need to check to see if New Jersey and other cities joined in on the work slow down.
A Few years ago Our local union closed down. We then went to SEIU, BOY WAS THAT A MISTAKE. They came in and demanded all sorts of crap and we ended up getting less than previous years. I ended up with a career ending injury and since then the company broke the union and only 1 of the 20 guys there are still with the company. That was a good company and job that SEIU killed.
- Anonymous
I feel sorry for you that you got in w/SEIU. They are an evil group of people.

Unions are evil. Bloomberg is evil. Both need to GO!
And I hope the woman that lost her baby sues the heck out of the city.

There’s a special place in Hell for those guys. Seriously, the punishment on this needs to be severe. That’s European public worker crap and we can’t let that happen here.
We clearly see here an example of how far they are willing to go in their fight against the rest of America, and they’re not the only unions who will stoop to such low actions. Now, what are we willing to do about it?

Break up the unions. Fire the union bosses all the way to the top. Jerks shouldn’t be allowed to slow down essential work just to “send a message”. Fire them all.
- steck61
The message I received is that the union members are not very good at what they do and NYC should really consider firing them all and privitizing the service. Is that the message they were trying to send?
- http://pulse.yahoo.com/_DS3G37AYWO5ZLWLN3HFKGVK37Q IMaTelaU
When will arrests be made? I read a new born died, for the ten hours it took the emergency responders to get there, all due to the union thugs following union boss’s orders….
I call it murder?
NYC Councilman Dan Halloran says his union constituents told him that their supervisors advised them to basically do a shoddy job cleaning up the snow as a means of protest against Bloomberg because of budget cuts that would affect the Unions. They were told to take their time and if they missed streets it would not be a problem, because they needed to send a message.
I’ve just one question. Considering that people died because these union supervisors needed to send a message, I just wonder if these supervisors have a freakin’ soul? This is corruption of the highest order, that they would allow the lives of people in their city to die just so they wouldn’t get a demotion or lose their jobs. This is an outrage!
