Van Jones to Occupy: Be for the 100%, not against the 1%

Van Jones tells Occupy Boston how they must be for everyone, the 100%, if the movement is to survive; that they can’t just be against the bankers, the 1%, simply because they are bankers. It’s about being against the banksters who don’t spend their money in a way that helps the community:

When you use that knowledge, when you use that power solely to enrich yourself, you’re a bankster. When you use that money to invest in a community garden or a community agriculture program or a solar program, you’re a banker and we love you. When you use your money to go down and buy a congressperson so that you can write your own rules and get away with things that are bad for the country, you’re a bankster and we’re mad at you.

But when you use that clout and that standing, to get the economy moving again, to loan to small businesses, to loan to small farmers, to take the debt-blanket off the homeowner, off the students so they can start to be alive again, you’re a banker.

Here’s the full clip:

In 2008, the 1% paid 40% of the taxes in America, with the highest tax rate of any group. In effect, a nice chunk of their money is already being spent ‘towards the community’ on their behalf by the government. Yet for the Van Jones of the world, that’s not enough. They want more.

The question is how do they get more? Are you just going to convince the 1% to give even more of their money to the ‘community’? Or is this really just about fomenting class warfare? You betcha!

Also, I’ve heard that Obama is giving a big speech tomorrow, a big class warfare speech about the rich paying their ‘fair share’ and what not. And I’m sure, just as with the last three years, the media will continue let Obama lie about ‘the rich’ without as much as a mention of the truth.
