Thank God someone is getting it right. As a legal U.S. resident and a Honduran native, I am able to witness on both ends of the spectrum. Honduras stood up and defended itself. We hope the world joins us in support.
- therightscoop
Well, I can't make any promises for Obama, since he loves Chavez so much, but there are many who respect Honduras' right to take it's country back. I wonder if Obama fears that happening here.
- Salvador
Wow! We Hondurans living in Honduras still do not understand why international opinion favors Zelaya. The guy has broken laws in name of the poor while he and his closes friends have amassed millions and sent the country down the drain. And now he wants to stay forever just like Chavez. The rest of the Institutions followed the law. He did not. I guess keeping an elected president-turned-criminal in power is more important than doing the right thing. Thank you very much for getting it right!
- therightscoop
You are so right Salvador. It is more important to protect your constitution and protect your people from those who exploit it for themselves. Congress in Washington is full of crooks and unfortunately they are in the white house now as well.
I respect Honduras for taking a stand even though the leaders of the world don't get it.
- Marco Valladares
Damn you are right! Thank you Charles K. for making that clear. Obama has to understand the mistake he is making.
Marco Valladares
Tegucigalpa, Honduras - therightscoop
Charles K is right about alot these days. I just hope Obama is listening.
- cdpw
Thank you Mr. Krauthammer
Finally someone understands the situation Honduras is going through. Hopefully our word together will be heard and Obama as well as others will support our decision.
Everyone should respect Honduras' choice and actually admire the courage that this country has shown! - Anonynous
Very good mr. Charles Krauthammer ! the best analysis around the web so far… Far better than CNN
- DANIELA
FINNALLY SOMEONE WITH A SMART AND REALISTIC OPINION! LOOKS LIKE HE HAS DONE PROPER RESEACRH! I DONT KNOW WHY OTHER COUNTRIES ARE VICTIMIZING A TYRAN! HE THINKS HE IS ABOVE THE LAW AND THAT HE CAN DO WHATEVER HE WANTS! WE REFUSE TO BECOME LEFTISTS! WE ARE DEMOCRATIC AND HAVE HANDLED THINGS THE BEST WAY WE CAN! WE WILL NOT BE MANIPULATED! WE WILL FIGHT FOR THE COUNTRY WE LOVE! EVERYONE SHOULD RESPECT OUR FREEDOM AND AUTONOMY! IT IS OUR DECITION!
- therightscoop
Don't you worry that Obama is in cahoots with Chavez? It concerns me that Obama would be pulling for Zelaya and not supporting the democratic action by Honduras.
- fernando
I'm from Honduras and he es 100% right. President Obama should hear the 2 sides of the story before making a judgment. This is what people wanted and it had to be done in order to mantain our Democracy and prevent our nation to be a 2nd Venezuela in the area. Ex-president Zelaya has been guiding this country to chaos all these 3 years of his Presidency. We truly don't want him back and we sure don't want Chavez to get involved in our internal affairs. Thanks
- pierelli
The international community needs to understand that Zelaya was destroying our democracy and following orders from Chavez to fullfill a plan where they would change Hondura's way of government and turn it into another Venezuela.
We Hondurans don't want Mel Zelaya back in Honduras. We want to continue with our way of living. Zelaya has only brought trouble and division among our country, and 90% of Hondurans don't like him and are happy with what happened. He wanted to do everything over the law, and eventually he had to be replaced. In defense of the constitution.
Please be well informed before judging. Don't support a Chavez wanna be!
- Max Fiallos
Someone in the US is getting it right! I am a Honduran Scholar in the US and I am appalled at how one-sided the majority of the media coverage in the US has been (pro-Zelaya), with little mention of the many laws that Zelaya broke in the days prior to his ouster. The Armed Forces acted upon a court order and quickly returned power to the Honduras Congress, just as the Constitution indicates. These events should not be labeled as a coup, but as a President who was removed from power for illegal activities.
- therightscoop
It really is that simple. I mean the Supreme court ordered it and the legislature backed it. How much more legal can it be?
- Melissa
Thank You! The Honduran people want and need the world to know this truth! We were on the verge of becomming another Venezuela if Zelaya wasn´t removed from power.
- Emmanuel Rodriguez M.
It is a shame that Honduras is not getting the chance to be heard, how come the ex-president Zelaya is the only one that has been given the chance to express himself. It is a pitty that the organization of american states is controles by Chaves regime. We apreciate your comments and support. You can help us make a diference through your analisys of our actual political situation.
- LISSETE
CONGRATULATIONS! MR.KRAUTHAMMER:
I am honduran and appreciate your point of view because we need to tell the whole world that CHAVEZ wants to send more soldiers to Honduras but we will defend our CONSTITUTION.We are a poor country and we have dignity,we don't want to be like Cuba,Nicaragua,Venezuela.THAN YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU!!LISSETE AGUERO
- CECI
The citizens of Honduras are proud of what the Armed Forces, Our congress and our Justice system accomplished!!We were well on our way to a totalitarian Government under Chavez rule!! Why else would he threaten to invade our country?? Thank GOD they all acted when they did because GOD only knows what would be happening here right now!! Tomorrow at 10 am in the capitals central park there will be a manifestation by the people who agree with what happend! I hope you all watch to see the difference between how many people supported Mr Zelaya as seen in manifestations today and how many people support the new government!! Lets Hope everyone is watching.
- Joe
Finally somone is getting the facts straight. I am a Honduran Citizen and a Student at Texas A&M, I have witnessed firsthand the atrocities this man has committed in the name of the poor and “helpless”while all he was doing is participating in a selfish plot to overthrow the current constitution to allow him to stay in power indefeinetly. TO ALL THE WORLD YOU SHOULD KNOW that last week he secretly published a decrete that made his “harmless referendum”into a binding vote for an assebly to rewrite the constitution. He has lied ion the face of the world and played the part of a martir doing the best for his country, when all he has done is bring pain to th epeople who once beleived in him. He was not removed from power in an iollegal military act, but instead was removed by legal due proscess, for breaking the constitution, and attempting against democracy in Honduras. Support the current president Roberto Micheletti, and let us carry on in our elections in November as we intend. Help us free ourselves from Mel Zelaya. Please Spread the word that Honduras' act was a righteous one and should be supported!
- Gabriela Aparicio
Well said Mr. Krauthammer, I hope your President will listen to what are saying and that America and the rest of the world can understand that Hondurans are just defending the Constitution which is above any President.
- Jorge Ponce
What a nice little rule of thumb. Charles Krauthhammer sure knows what he's taling about. It's scary and disappointing to see how the most important man of all democratic, capitalist countries (Obama) assumes such a position that he is practically giving a “pat in the back” to Chavez and his ambitions of expanding his power to Honduras through Zelaya. Obama needs a little learning to do about Honduran reality and what us Hondurans were going through with corrupt Zelaya in power and maybe that way he will change his ignorant point of view.
- Antonio
I just wonder what if OBAMA did something like that in the USA wouldn't he have been impeached? Or probably not considering he is doing such a great job bringing the USA close to Chavez, Cuba, Iran and others? Common be serious and I wouldn't have to point this out but the rest of the world shouldn't support a tyran and a dictator! And the USA has a history of backing up tyrans through out history for their convenience, be aware USA citizens Obama can just play you out since he's turning to be out a far left wing man.
- therightscoop
I hope you are right, that he would change his point of view. It seems the only time he changes his view is if he gets alot of pressure from the press.
And they are typically in his back pocket, so not sure if that's going to happen.
- Suzzette
I really appreciate you expressing the truth about this man, who proclaimed to be a God when saying infront of all te press: “Come arrest me if you dare”. As a honduran I can assure you that we do not want this man back in our country! We do not understand the position of other presidents when trying to place him back as our president. No one but us the (people of Honduras) would have to deal with this man if he enters the country again, so why meddle in his favor?
- http://mjb.biglaughs.org/ m
I couldn't agree more. It's only a matter of time before we need to do this here in the US.
- Oscar Gross
THANK YOU. It boggles my mind why so many people cannot gather the facts and agree that the ALBA nations DO NOT have the best intentions for the people of Honduras or even their own nation.
- Pedro
Thanks Mr. Krauthammer:
If you have a way of letting President Obama know that he is backing up the wrong horse, please do so. I am a Honduran and for the first time in my life I cannot express how proud I am of every one who participated in eliminating the would be dictator.
We Hondurans don't want Mel Zelaya back in Honduras. - Rene Casco
Thankyou very much Mr Krauthammer!
We, the people of Honduras feel abandoned by the international community! We have just acted to defend our laws, our freedom, our democracy. No coup has taken place here, but a lawful destitution of a corrupt megalomaniac who used socialism as a crutch to support his ultimate goal of staying in power indefinitely under strict compliance of Chavez's so-called socialist franchise!
Long Live Dmocracy, Long Live our Freedom, long Live the Rule of Law…. Long Live The Republic of Honduras!
- Maria
I still don´t get the OAE and its members, Cuba was fired from the organization 40 years ago because it was communist. Now in Honduras we try to stop communism in our country and the OAE is against us?! What should we do? Wait until it´s too late????
Thanks for analyzing the REAL situation. It´s fair that the world hears both versions, Mel and the Hondurans. We Hondurans don´t want to become another Cuba or Venezuela. - vanessa
Thankz for speaking for us ..if only we could have more backup of the media more people would understand what is really happening in Honduras.
- A.M. Smith
I believe the majority of people in Honduras do not
want to live in a Communist country any more than
we in the United States would want to live under
Communist Rule…All of the people we are friends
with in Honduras have been very concerned regarding
the direction this President has been heading for quite
a while. - Rasv
Imao well i think it was about time that someone ought to speak reality, like i mean all the other country´s are taking mel zelaya as a victim when they dont even know what Honduras rlly wants, or whats going on in here. like i mean, shouldnt we the honduran people be the ones pissed off about this and not the cubans, or bolivians or the El Alba counties??. well i think the only pissed off people here are the comunist countrys trying to take contorl over Honduras…cause trust me everyone i know wants mel zelaya out of here. cheers and peace out!! ;;)

im a honduran citizen who lives in san pedro sula. im in favor of the destitution of zelaya what the congress and army made its legal. we dont want mel zelaya anymore we preferred to be separated from the world until the new president takes position in january. we will defend our contry our constitution our democracy from chavez, ortega and both castro because we want to be a free country not the backyard from venezuela in C.A. as it is nicaragua, bolivia and ecuador. and we will defend it even with our blood and life.
- Rafael Ruiz
FINALLY SOMEONE SAYS THE TRUTH!! Viva Honduras, viva la democracia, no queremos a Mel ni a Chavez..
- Marisol
I'm writting to your email because I had to thank you for your opinions. It was a relief to watch it and see that you understand perfectly what is happening in our country. we are so dissapointed in some people of the International Community who don´t or can´t see it the way you do…
It was awful to watch “CNN in Español “news, how Mel Zelaya kept exaggerating and changing his “version” of how he was kidnapped and also what led to his replacement.
The majority of Hondurans are NOT in favor of the ex- presidente Zelaya. It's important to clarify that the people that protest in favor of Zelaya have been paid or were ordered to do so because they are public employees and want to save their jobs.
Also thank you, because you understand that it was not a coup d'etat. And yes, he was elected… but because many many people did not vote at all, since they did not like any of the candidates. A minority easily convinced with false promises did vote. And yes… like you say, Hitler was also elected =(.
We ask your help,to remind the international community to review his files, his history and ties to Hugo Chavez, Correa, Ortega… and then to judge.
Thank you again… because you said he was intent on following Hugo Chavez, who by the way, has insulted in repeated occasions Hondurans, our military and congress.
His abuse of power and his careless spending of the Honduran money to his favor is very clear to all of us who live here. He hasn't been concerned with the many problemas that we have, to name a few:
Poverty
Sickness and lack of medicines in our hospitals
Kidnappings
Daily assaults and robberiesPlease help us request the international community for their support for us. We don´t want to continue witnessing the lies and constant examples of corruption of Mel Zelaya.
Thank you again and keep it up please!! God bless you,
- Tanya
You are a hero tonight in Honduras Mr. Charles Krauthammer. Thank you for getting it right and for speaking up for a small nation who was on the verge of having its democracy shredded by Zelaya and Chavez. THe nation of Honduras applauds you and we ask you To please continue to speak up for us in the press. The mainstream media continues to hammer us for upholding our constitution. When he was elected, he presented himself as a center politician, now he has completely gone off the deep end to join the Marxist clan. We in Honduras are proud of our Supreme Court, Military, and Congress who stood up to this tyrant. WE DO NOT WANT HIM BACK!!
- Jackie
Finally, someone is understanding what is truely happening in Honduras. This is totally accurate. THose of us who are HOndurans and live in the USA have to put up with what the media portrays which is most of the time inaccurate. Thank you Mr. Krauthammer for being a responsible anlyst and transmitting the real picture of HOnduras' political situation. Mel is a puppet of Chavez.
- honduran
Obama and the other countries around the world need to understand what's going on in Honduras. Mr. Zelaya is giving out the wrong information about what happened and that's why many people think, what hondurans did is wrong. Take a look at Charles K.'s talk and then make an opinion about the entire situation.
- Omarmh
Thank you Mr. Kraauthamer
If only more people would lay out the facts of what happened in our country like you have maybe would have a chances of conserving our democracy. Please keep speaking out!
Mel Zelaya ingnored the Supreme court, ignored congress, and ignored our constitution! Yet everyone seems to ignore these things and now want a him back in power? We can't people see that thugs like Mr. Zelaya and Hugo Chaves use our democratic principles and twist our democratic laws for their personal gain?
- Expat in Hondo
I have lived in Honduras for two years. Every single Honduran I know supports the “coup.” I have never been on the same side of an issue with Charles Krauthammer. But he's right about this.
- Edith H
Dear Mr. Krauthammer, Thank you and thanks good for your words, You are the only one who knows what's really going on.
Zelaya is a disciple of Chavez, and he had plans to stay in the in the president for ever, and eliminating the congress and the supreme court, and all children over 3 years of age have to be under the guardianship of the government
The citizen of Honduras are proud of the Armed Forces, The Congress, and the Supreme Court, VIVA HONDURAS - http://hondurans4democracy.blogspot.com/ AA
THANK YOU FOX NEWS… THANK YOU CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER FOR PORTRAYING WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON IN HONDURAS. THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY HAS IT WRONG THIS TIME, FOR ONCE, A LATIN AMERICAN COUNTRY IS DEFYING CHAVEZ AND THE TOTALITARIAN PLAN HE HAS TO BUILD A CULT OF FOLLOWERS TO SUPPORT HIM, AND ONLY HIS WELL-BEING!
AS OUR FELLOW VENEZUELAN BROTHERS SAY “I WISH YOU LUCK, I HOPE YOU SUCCEED, WE WISH WE COULD DO THAT WITH CHAVEZ, IT WOULD BE ONE OF THE HAPPIEST DAYS OF OUR LIVES” - nico
i love you! FINALLY SOMEONE MAKES SENSE!!! and talks reality…
we HATE Zelaya… the only people who is in favor for zelaya is because he paid them to be!!!
GOD!
i dont undertand why the others goverments are making us take him back…. that will only prove a man can be above the laws, above the constitution…
HONDURAS DOESN'T WANT ZELAYA!!
let us be happy! - Jared Ocampo
The country is polarized in this issue, however I believe that the Honduran congress and military did the right thing since ex-president Zelaya was leading in the wrong direction the country.
- CESAR
U DAMM RIGHT!!! IM FROM HONDURAS!! AND PROUD OF MY COUNTRY! WE DONT LET ANYBODY NEITHER CUBA….. VENEZUELA… NICARAGUA OR BOLIVIA…MESS WITH OUR LAWS !! HE HAVE LAWS IN HONDURAS THAT THIS GUYS .. THIS “GORILLAS” WANT TO BEND OR BRAKE!! STOP THIS OUTRAGE AGAINST MY COUNTRY!!! PLEASE UNITED NATIONS OPEN UR EYES!! U GUYS SHOULD SEE THE REACTIONS OF MANY HONDURAN PEOPLE WHEN THIS NUTS WAS TALKING IN FRONT OF THE UNITED NATIONS!! AND IRONICALLY LAUGHS!!! U DONT LAUGH WHEN U JUST HAVE BEEN KICKED OFF UR COUNTRY!!!
WE DONT WANT MEL ZELAYA BACK!! IF HE DOES… HE HAS TO BE IN PRISON!!!
- Enrique
Thank you, Mr. Krauthammer. The international community and press seems to deem our ex-President's views as carrying more weight than that of our representative Congress and our Supreme Court.
We never opposed a referendum. What we disagreed with the way in which he wanted carry out the referendum all by himself, which would lend itself to manipulation of the results to his benefit, his disdain for the other branches of government and his irreverence toward our Constitution itself.
One thing to clarify: this was not a coup. The armed forces arrested Zelaya on orders of our civilian authorities, and the succession of power was carried out as our Constitution mandates.
- Christian
Mr Obama surely needs to inform himself on all the illegalitys Ex President Zelaya was doing for the sole purpose of breaking the Honduran Constitution due to the fact that it does not provide for his re-election. He wanted to break the constitution so that he could have a new one done exactly as the one in Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador. The country would have been turned into a Hugo Chavez province. The Honduran people as a sole have prevented that ill purpose to become a sad reality, USA and all the world must support the current honduran president as to ensure the honduran people freedom and the celebration of a presidential elections to happen on November 29, 2009.

Citing that the President often falls on the wrong side of these big decisions, CK believes the President needs a little extra help in making his decisions. Here’s a quote from the video:
Look, a rule of thumb here is whenever you find yourself on the side of Hugo Chavez, Daniel Ortega and the Castro twins, you ought to reexamine your assumptions.
