Video: US Votes to Suspend Honduras Membership from OAS
While I suspected this would be the case, as the 33-0 vote implies, I was hoping for perhaps a change in direction from the Obama administration. But alas, it seems that we are playing a role in the isolation of Honduras, along with 32 other countries:
The Organization of American States suspended Honduras on Saturday after a caretaker government refused to restore President Manuel Zelaya, who was toppled in a military coup last weekend. The OAS took the rare step to suspend one of its members at a meeting in Washington after Honduras’ interim rulers ignored an OAS ultimatum to restore Zelaya.
With the suspension now being official, we must wait and see what happens when Zelaya lands in Tegucigalpa tomorrow around midday. Hopefully the arrest of Zelaya will be handled peacefully.
