Walid Phares: Illogical and dangerous for Obama to release Taliban from Gitmo

Walid Phares says that by releasing captured Taliban from Gitmo back to Afghanistan in hopes of creating the groundwork for future negotiations, Obama is making both an illogical and dangerous move that will only show the Taliban that they can manipulate us in the future.

He says that instead of trying to win the war, Obama is trying to end the war and setting up a scenario where the Taliban could easily best us should they not keep up their end of whatever bargain we think we’ve made with them:

    Anyone with common sense knows how sending Taliban prisoners from Gitmo back to Afghanistan will end yet the “smartest President EVAH” thinks it is a good idea. Have we ever had a more ignorant leader of our country? At this point I’m ready to start a movement to bring back Carter for Pete’s sake.

      Maybe the CIA is running low on Taliban fighters. You would think that they would be busy in Libya after helping Al Qaeda overthrow a government that was peaceful toward Israel. I guess we have more than one war to run.

    Wasn’t it plugs biden who recently said that “the taliban pre se isn’t our enemy”? So dear leader is turning to plugs for advice here or what? His arab spring just wouldn’t be complete without the taleebahn back in power while our troops are still over there.

      The way it works, as I see it, is Obama tells Biden to say something (he never speaks without permission, gaffes or not). Then Obama watches the followup polls and makes a decision to act according to the polls or to the way we react to Biden’s gaffes.

      It seems like he always waits for opinion polls. That’s why it takes him so long to react to situations in the world. It must have been killing him to make a decision about Bin Laden without the help of a poll.

    We need to stop calling Obama incompetent, illogical or dangerous, because everything he does, signs or says is part of a plan.

    If you think like a friend of America the action of releasing a Taliban from Gitmo back to Afghanistan is illogical and dangerous.

    If you think like an enemy of America the action of releasing a Taliban from Gitmo back to Afghanistan is logical and in exchange for something.

    Maybe we should start thinking like the enemy of America to understand what is going on.

    This is one of the many reasons One-bama is so dangerous. He deeply resents the US and sees it as an oppressor and colonial power. Read “The Roots of Obama’s Rage” by Denesh D’Sousa.

    One-bama is setting up a precedent like the one used by Hammas in Israel. They are trapped in this catch and release program where Israel must release a thousand terrorists to get back 1 soldier. Just 1!!!. Add to this the fact that One-bama is opening up huge chunks of our southern border and you have to wonder what is this man thinking?

    People who say they will vote for One-bama if Romney is the nominee are either 3rd graders or are completely delusional. America will not survive 8 years of Barack One-bama.

    I say release the guy. I’m fine with that. Let him hit the ground running, not realizing his every move’s being shadowed by a Special Forces target interdiction team that’s watching and recording his every move and associate, waiting for the order to shoot him in the head with a Barrett .50 caliber sniper rifle loaded with SLAPs.

          How do you know about that stuff? I love the military but I am no guru on military technology…not even close. Are you ex-military?

          I used to live across the street from a Navy Seal, and he was a tough mo-fo. I looked up to him…it was almost abnormal, lol.

    For all you Democrat peepers who want to see what we conservatives have to say, I will say this slowly so you can understand. Obama is a M…O….R…..O….N !!

    I haven’t watched the video yet, but releasing the Gitmo prisoners to Afghanistan and Karzai is putting them right back on the battlefield. Karzai has received massive criticism for releasing captured terrorists in the past, so what would be so different now? Obama is a jackass that knows what he’s doing…and it’s not good. He’s looking for an out to close Gitmo and possibly be so bold as to intentionally put them somewhere where he knows they will become players again.

        I know, and it is so obvious. I suppose, though, that if you’re an anti-Gitmo guy you really wouldn’t care if it was strictly a political move because you got what you wanted.

        I still havent’ checked this out…I’m not sure if the proposal releases the terrorists back into the general population or if it puts them in Karzai’s hands to deal with. Either way, they will be back in the general population.

    Ok, this is the most I’ve heard of this story because I haven’t watched the news much in the last few days. I was under the impression that Obama was releasing him (or up to five of them) to the Afghanistan government for DETAINMENT, which I thought was a bad idea because Karzai has had a history of releasing them back into the population.

    From the sounds of this, and what VirusX said, Obama is releasing him directly back int the population? Now I REALLY think Obama is an idiot !!

    Yes, the United States of America went from “we never negotiate with terrorists” as the rule of the day to “we give in to the terrorists before we start negotiations”.
    This is akin to beating up the school yard bully on one day then the next day giving him your lunch money anyway. It is very simple to understand how appeasement never works to moderate evil, it only cultivates it.

    The idea that this release would be somehow OK if we got concessions from the Taliban before hand is bizarre. One of the basic tactics of Islamic warfare is deception. So what if we got concessions from the Taliban? The Taliban could surrender, sign a peace treaty declaring undying devotion to the United States, and start exporting kittens and daisies. At best it gives us ten years, but it’s more likely the ink won’t be dry before they attack again. You can’t trust a Muslim.

    This is disturbing if true, any predictions if the press will cover this story, we are all familiar with the Friday news dump, is this an end of year news dump so that nobody will notice while we are all distracted with New Year’s celebrations and football games?

    releasing them does nothing but hurt us. Those that have been captured in Afghanistan and sent to the highest detention facility in the country have “street cred” when they get out and go back to fighting. Some don’t go back, but most do. When people you have captured get released b/c there isn’t enough room or b/c he may be a big fish in your pond but a pretty small one in the grand scheme of things it makes doing your job over there very frustrating. Why should I (or any other ground combat soldier) go out and risk our lives to help this nation when the guys we capture are only going to get released by our own command or the afghan gov’t later down the line? That is if they take them at all. Heaven forbid you shoot a “bad guy” when you get the jump on him. I have literally been asked over the radio if people we killed had a weapon and if they were just holding it or raising it to shoot at us and we just beat them to the punch. No joke. I’m not sure what the ROE is there currently but last I was there it was pretty frustrating. Don’t want to upset any Afghans now do we….not even the ones we are killing.

    It’s almost as if obama wants to help the Taliban and their terrorist allies to conquer America and the world….but being that obama is such a strong patriotic and Christian man this just can’t be possible. (Sarcasm)
