Conroy on Palin: Leaving governorship midterm a huge issue

Scott Conroy weighed in on Sarah Palin last night, saying that leaving the governorship before the end of her term will be a huge problem if/when she declares her candidacy for president:

I think it’s a huge issue. Look, she’s explained why she left the governor’s office with a year and a half left in her first term. She said that it was because she was inundated with ethics complaints that made her job impossible. But to get the American people to really believe that and to believe that they can put someone in the Oval Office who’s only served as governor for two and a half years is a big leap.

For anyone who has watched Palin: Undefeated, it’s clear that she made the right decision in stepping down. Personally, I’ve always believed it, but seeing it explained more deeply in the movie just solidified it even more for me. She made a huge sacrifice to her career in stepping down so that Alaska could continue to move forward, unencumbered by someone who had become so politically toxic that many of her friends on the other side of the aisle were now enemies. Plus the ethics complaints, already costing her hundreds of thousands of dollars, were just going to keep coming, putting a tremendous strain on her family and those who worked for her.

It wasn’t the right decision for her career to step down, but it was the right decision for Alaska. And in my opinion she should be honored for taking the hit.
